Vera was born in Liverpool, U.K. on October 4, 1923 (Babes of ’23), daughter of Alfred Green and Katherine Maude Crosthwaite and loving older sister to Enid Hughes. In 1952, Vera and Norman emigrated from the U.K. to Canada and, over the years, shared stories of their trip across the Atlantic in March by ship. Vera was lovingly cared for over the past 5 years by her daughter Ann, husband Brent and their children at their home in Nestleton, where she enjoyed the quiet solitude of rural life, family gatherings, the songbirds and long reads on the backyard deck. The family would like to thank Dr. Amanda Pawley and the Drs, RNs and Volunteers at the Port Perry Hospital for the care they have shown Vera and the family over the past number of years. As well, we extend thanks to the CECCAC, the RN’s and PSWs from Paramed, St Elizabeth and the Staff at the Port Perry Villa. To honour Vera’s wishes, a memorial visitation and reception was held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Low and Low Funeral Home, 1763 Reach Rd., Port Perry (905) 985-7331 from 4-8p.m. Vera was cremated and her ashes taken by the family for placement in Saint John, NB beside her loving husband Norman.
