Bailey, Marilyn M.
nee: Bray

With profound sadness the family of Marilyn M. Bailey of Blackstock announces her passing following a brief illness at the age of 70, on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Lakeridge Health, Whitby. Beloved mother of Sharon Benedikt of Napanee, Laurie Bailey (Tom McDonnell) of Bowmanville, and Janet Thomson (Jim) of Oshawa. Grandmother of Jamie Benedikt, Jeffrey and Sheri Zeidman and Ashleigh Taylor, and great grandmother of Alexis Bertrand. Daughter of Ruth (Leach) Bray and the late Jack Bray of Port Perry, and sister of Ronald (Lynda) Bray. Marilyn was a long-time employee of Durham Board of Education as a custodian of Cartwright Central Public School. She was an avid gardener and accomplished craftswoman. A Visitation was held at the Low and Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry (905) 985-7331 on Sunday, May 15, 2011 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Humane Society would be appreciated.

Elson, Stanley E.

At Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, on May 12, 2011, in his 80th year. Remembered by his wife Rose, his children Marjorie (Brent) Mathers, Marie (Ron) Zeeman, Shirley (Dennis) Nicholls, Betty (Norman Calvert), and Arthur (Sally). Missed by 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Son of the late Ellwood and Isola Elson. Brother of Mansel (deceased), Arnold (deceased), Lionel, Nelda Morley, Alan, Shirley Leask, and Earl. A memorial service was held on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main St. South, Uxbridge (905) 852-3073. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Laycock, Douglas
June 5, 1922 - May 11, 2011

passed away peacefully after a short illness with his family by his side at the Community Nursing Home in Port Perry on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Doug dearly beloved husband of Doreen of Port Perry. Loving father of Judy Fowler, Gayle (Bob) Peck and Larry (Paula) Laycock. Proud grandfather of Tara, Drew, Janya, Brad and Megan and great grandfather of Damien, Tina, DoraLee and Jacob. A funeral service was held at the Low and Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach St. Port Perry (905) 985-7331 on Saturday May 14, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. No visitation was held prior to service time. A reception followed the funeral service. Interment Thornton cemetery , Oshawa on Saturday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated

Sambrook, Robert A. (Bob)

passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 10, 2011 at Lakeridge Health in Port Perry at the age of 77. Bob was the much loved husband and best friend of Carol for 54 years. Loving father of Dianne (Gord) and Linda (Darren) and proud grandfather of Evan. Dear brother of Ernie (the late Billie) and Dave (Ann). Bob retired from Kawneer Company after 38 years of service. Family and friends called at the Low and Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach St. Port Perry (905) 985-7331 on Friday May 13, 2011 from 12 to 2 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bob Sambrook was held in the chapel on Friday May 13, 2011 at 2 p.m. a reception followed. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Clegg, Jack E.

Peacefully after a lengthy illness on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the age of 90 at Dufferin Center, Nanaimo, B.C. Jack was predeceased by his wife Edith and daughter Donna. Jack is survived by his children Jack (Susan), Lorraine, Fred (Marg), Rick (Karen) and Denise, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Jack spent a majority of his life with the Armed Forces serving across Canada and Europe. He also served in WW2 and the Korean War before settling in Goodwood and then retiring in Nanaimo, B.C. A visitation was held at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main St. S. Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 7 – 9 p.m. A Funeral Service was held in the chapel on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2 p.m. Interment Uxbridge cemetery. Reception followed. In Jack’s memory, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 170 – Poppy Fund.

Owen, Sandra Elaine

passed away peacefully at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital on Monday, May 9, 2011 at the age of 78. Beloved wife of Bob Owen for 56 years. Loving mom of Scott (Tracy) and Jeff (Breanne). Proud Nana of Brittany, Michael, Aislyn, Robert, Aaron, Michelle, Anne and Max. A Memorial Service was held at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main St. S. Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. with visiting from 1-2 p.m. Reception followed. In Sandra’s memory donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

passed away at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital on Monday, May 2, 2011. Beloved husband of Charlene. Loving father of Glenn (Carin), Linda Stephens (Peter), Laura Nagasaka – Ajayi (Emmanuel Ajayi), Douglas (Carol). Cherished grandfather of Jessica, Marc, Rebecca (Richard), Adrian, Aisha, Chieko, Shizue, Tiffany, Christopher, Melissa, Josh and Ryan. Great grandfather of Thomas and Henry. Brother of Diane, Frances and Elsie. Predeceased by his sister Maureen and his brother Gordon. A Memorial Service was held at the Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main St. South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. with visiting from 10 – 11 a.m. A reception followed at the Keeling farm (381 Feasby Rd. Uxbridge) In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Vanderpost, Ryan Garnet
October 21st, 1991 - April 29th, 2011

passed away suddenly on Friday, April 29th, 2011 in his 20th, year. Ryan, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to many. Survived by his parents; Garry and Beverley, brother; Trenton and sister; Madison. Grandparents Robert and Cecilia Tropeau of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Henry and Betty – Lou Vanderpost of Beeton, Ontario. Uncle Derek Tropeau (Tammy) Cousins Cooper, Gunner, Walker and Summer, Uncle Aaron Tropeau (Sherri), Aunt Candace Tropeau (Henry) Cousin Cheyenne, Aunt Darlene Jebb (Brian), Cousins Carter, Brenleigh, and Vanessa, Aunt Joanne English (Bill) and many more uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Ryan was a ray of sunshine who loved the outdoors, nature, animals and just being in the wilderness. His family was everything to him and he loved all the quality time with everyone. He attended Waterloo University for Environmental Studies and last summer found a new love of carpentry while working at the Tim Horton’s Child Ranch. Doing things for kids of all ages was a huge part of who he was.
A funeral service for Ryan took place on Thursday, May 5th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with visiting from 11:00 – 1:00 at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church (12251 Regional Road #1, Leaskdale, ON). A reception followed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ryan “Chisel” Vanderpost Trust Fund to send a Kid to Kananaskis Tim Horton’s Children’s Ranch.

Bell, Bruce William

In his 64th year passed away peacefully on May 2nd, 2011 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Loving husband for 39 years of Patricia. Beloved father of Clinton and Stacey and proud grandfather of Maddison, Zachary and Savannah. Son of the late Earl Bell, Bruce will be sadly missed by his surviving mother, Thelma and siblings Earla, Marlene, Russell and Sharon. He will be fondly remembered by many lifelong friends and extened family members. At Bruce’s request, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the Uxbridge Legion Branch 170 109 Franklin Street,Uxbridge, ON from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Low and Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge ON (905) 852 – 3073. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the SPCA.

Elford, Harry Gordon

Peacefully on Sunday evening May 1, 2011 at ReachView Village in Uxbridge, ON in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Lois Elford (nee Simpson) and father of Gordon (Charmaine) of Uxbridge, Keith (Donna) of Mississauga, Grant (Holly) of Abbotsford, B.C., Beth Mitchell of Shepody, N.B. and Neil (Beth) of Kingston, and foster daughter, Karen Higgins. He is sadly missed by 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren with four more expected shortly. He is survived by his sister Dorothy (John) Simpson and sister-in-laws, Marie (Earl) Wilson, Grace (Floyd) Evans, and Marilyn Elford. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Mabel (nee Ball) Elford, his elder brother Glenn and his sister in law Hazel (nee Casement), and foster son, Kevin Higgins. He was a long time resident of Scott Township, where he farmed with his father on the family farm. He also worked at the trades building at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. In 1994 Harry and Lois moved to their home in Uxbridge. During his life he was an active member of the Uxbridge Free Methodist Church, holding many varied offices. Harry enjoyed gardening, competing at the fall fair with his flowers, playing board games with his grandchildren, and sharing puns. The biggest joys of his life were family times together. Special thanks to Dr. Brian St. John for his thoughtful care over the years, and the staff at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital and ReachView Village for their outstanding care and support.
Arrangements have been made through Low & Low Funeral Home, 23 Main St. S., Uxbridge, ON. Visitation was held on Thursday May 5, 2011 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. and the funeral was held at the Low & Low Funeral Home on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. In memoriam, donations may be made to the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, Free Methodist Church in Canada (World Missions) or charity of your choice.

Crappere, Phyllis Leah

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Leah Crappere on April 30, 2011. Beloved wife of 39 years of the late Don Crappere. Loving mother and mother – in – law of Lorraine and Paul Burke. Proud gran of Shannon. Survived by her loving sister Merle Fodick and brothers Harold Eade and Frank Eade. Phyllis touched and influenced the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family received friends on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main St. S., Uxbridge (905) 852 - 3073 for a funeral service in the chapel at 2:00 with visiting from 1:00 – 2:00.
