Walters, Rita

Peacefully, with her family by her side, on Friday, July 25, 2008 at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, in her 81st year. Rita, beloved wife of George. Dear mother of Roy and his wife Ann of Peterborough and Victoria and her late husband Bruce Lukas of Ajax. Loving grandmother to Jason, Peter, Jessica and Joel. Fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law Vera and June and her husband Norm. A Private Funeral Service has been held. Interment Groveside cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Shields, Carol Joan

Carol Joan Shields died peacefully at Ross Memorial Hospital on July 26, 2008 at 53 years of age. She was predeceased by her long time companion Rob McFerran. Carol leaves behind her devoted children Shane and Leah, sisters Kim and Linda, mother Anna Shields Howard and many good friends. A private family interment will take place in Orillia cemetery with her dad, brother Tom and sisters Heather and Nancy. A Celebration of Carol's Life will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2008 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Sandford Community Centre. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Harris, Theresa Alice

passed away peacefully, in her home on Friday, July 25, 2008, in her 86th year. Beloved wife of the late George Harris. Loving mother of Larry, the late Sandra, John (Sandra), Janice (Barry) Found, and James (Kim). She was a loving grandmother and great grandmother. Predeceased by her brothers John (Joe) and his wife Mary Taylor, Norman and his wife Lillian Taylor, and Herbert Taylor. Survived by her sister-in-law Gladys. Remembered by her companion Frank (Scotty) Hartwick. Family and friends called at the Low and Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach Road, Port Perry (905) 985-7331 for visitation on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service was held in the chapel on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one-hour prior. In Theresa’s memory donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Layzell, Robert Henry

passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Community Nursing Home, Port Perry, in his 94th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary Bertha (nee: Bidwell). Loving father of Robert (Janine) and Marion (Mark) Shaw. Wonderful grandfather of Stephanie, Robert, Leanne, Jesse, Bradley and Joel. A Funeral Service was held in the chapel at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. with visitation from 11:00 – 12:30 p.m. Interment Uxbridge cemetery with a reception to follow at the funeral home. In Robert’s memory, donations may be made to the Community Nursing Home, Port Perry.

Jackson, Mildred

Peacefully, at her home in Delmanor Retirement Residence, Richmond Hill, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. In her 92nd year. Dearly loved wife of the late Wilfred, treasured mother of Doug (Sheila), Barbara, and Lorraine (Paul), devoted grandmother of Brian (Leslie), Suzanne (David), David (Beth), Matthew, Andrew, and Ashley, and great grandmother of Andrew, Spencer, Ryan, Jason, Nathan, Landon and predeceased by Nolan. Also survived by her sister Flo and a loving extended family. Family and friends called at the Low and Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach Road, Port Perry (905) 985-7331 for visitation on Thursday, July 24, 2008 from 4:00 – 6:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service was held in the chapel on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one-hour prior. Reception to follow. Interment Foster Memorial cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to one of Mildred’s favorite charities; Kidney Foundation, Heart & Stroke Foundation or B.R.A.I.N. Child, or to a charity of your choice.

Smith, Laurence Alexander

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laurie Smith, on July 15, 2008 at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital. Laurie was the beloved husband of Dorothy Smith (pre-deceased) and father to Larry (Bonnie) and Brad (Jessica). His grandchildren Drew, Darren, Isabelle and Thomas will forever remember their grandfather as a kind, happy man that loved to spend time with them. Laurie is survived by his sisters Mary Ellen (Jim) Hazel, Vida (Ken) Rogers, and his sister in law Pat Smith. Laurie was pre-deceased by his three brothers Frank, Don and Horace (Fred). Born in Hamilton Ontario on January 2, 1930 to Frank and Ethel Smith, Laurie spent many years in the printing industry, including the family business, The Modern Printery. For the past two years, Laurie has enjoyed living in Uxbridge and has developed many friends, particularly his special friend Sheilagh Mann. Laurie was a member of the Masonic Lodge (Hamilton, Ont.) and for many years was involved in the Hamilton and District Scouting movement. A Service to celebrate Laurie’s life was held at Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge, Ontario (905) 852-3073 at 2:00 p.m. on Friday July 18, 2008 with visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Tremblay, Mary Susanne
September 22, 1939 – July 10, 2008

passed away at Lakeridge Health in Port Perry on Thursday. Mary Tremblay wife of the late Jim Tremblay. Loving mother of Keith (Sharon) and Laura (Steven Tuttle). Dear step grandmother of James and Diane. Daughter of the late Lloyd and Hilda Stanley. Dear sister of Grace (Garry), David (Bev) and Helen. Mary will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, special cousins, friends, neighbours and bridge partners. passed away after a battle with cancer at Port Perry on Monday, July 7, 2008 at the age of 38. Terry Penfold loving son of Bob Penfold and Josephine and Mike Kapustin. Dear grandmother of 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Sister of Beatrice (Harry) Lack of Oshawa, Brock (Mary) Pilkey of Guelph and predeceased by Doug, Marion and Phyllis. Ruth will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Loving grandmother to Wesley, Rachel, Shane, Aaron, Karley, Adam, Darcy, Grant, and Alicia. Minny will be sadly missed by her sisters Rennie Wiersma, and Jeltje Braches.
