Browne, Lee (Helen Virginia)

Passed peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2007. Beloved wife of the late George Browne, loving mother and mother-in-law of Claire and Michael Stevenson, Rick and Anne Browne, the late Ted and Leslie Browne and “adopted” son Larry Walsh. Cherished grandmother to Lara, J.J., Christopher, Shannon (Mark), Karen (Daryl), David, Ashleigh, Laura, Rebecca, Ekah; dear great grandmother “G.G.B.” to nine great grandchildren. Survived by her brother Jack Rowsome (Rosemary), many cousins, nephews and a niece. Lee will be especially missed by dear friends Chris McKinnon, Marg Powell, Lee Stephenson and many bridge partners in Uxbridge. Friends were received at the Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 for visitation from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service was held in the chapel on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Lee are welcome to contribute to the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation. The family is especially grateful for her love and dedication Lee received from caregivers Carol and Rose. Lee loved her family, sports and a good card game. Her spirit, baked goods, and knitted afghans will be missed by all who knew her.

Croucher, Irene

passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2007. Beloved wife of Joe, loving mother of John (Sheila), Shyann (Neil) and Denise (Jay). She will be missed by her grandchildren Jody, Stevie-lee, Katie, Mitchell, Jennifer, Joanna, and Jayme. She will be remembered by her many family and friends. Family and friends will be received at the Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 for visitation on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. A Funeral Service was held in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Donations in Irene’s memory can be made to the Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket.

Jaqueline (Jackie) Gordon
nee: Abbott

Very unexpectedly we lost a great woman today. Our beloved mother passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at the age of 74. Devoted wife for 53 years to Frank Gordon. Survived by twin sister Florence Delaney (Scarborough). Loving mother of Dan (Anne), Diane (Don) Markell, Jim (Mary) and Janet (Steve) Lunney. Cherished grandmother of Brad, Steve, Cindy, Kan, Amanda, Ashley, and Wes. Proud great-grandmother of Hannah. There was no funeral service as per request. Friends celebrated Jaqueline’s life at: The Tin Mill, 53 Toronto Street, Uxbridge on Sunday March 4 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Varley, Alice Mary

passed away very peacefully at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 with her family at her side. In her 96th year. Predeceased by her husband of 55 years Herbert. Loving mother of Trevor (Kitty), Roger (Dorothy), and Jan Wilson (John). Dearly loved Nana to her grandchildren Colin, Michael, Kirsten (Marc), Hillary (Trevor), Randy (Joslyn), Chris (Shannon), and John-David (Jitka) and her darling great-grandchildren Autumn, Maya, Parker and Hannah. Family and friends were received at the Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 for visitation on Saturday, March 3, 2007 from 2 – 4 p.m. A celebration of Alice’s life was held on Sunday, March 4, 2007 at the Uxbridge Trinity United Church 20 First Ave. (905) 852-6213 at 2:00 p.m. In Alice’s memory, memorial donations may be made to the Uxbridge Trinity United Church or to a charity of choice.

Haley, Miriam Winnifred

passed away peacefully at the Port Perry Community Nursing Home on Monday February 26, 2007, in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late Ernest Haley. Dear mother of Brenda Haley, Lorne and his wife Rhonda. Proud grandmother of Jason and Scott. Survived by her sister Evelyn Humphrey and predeceased by sisters Ethel Miller, Kay Bush and brothers Cecil and Frank Bush. Family and friends were received at the Low and Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry (905) 985-7331 for visitation on Thursday March 1, 2007 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Service was held in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. In Miriam’s memory, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

French, Mildred Ilah

Peacefully at the Port Perry Community Nursing Home on Saturday, February 24, 2007. In her 92nd year. Mildred, beloved wife of the late Wilfred. Dear sister of Doris Smith, Donald Cain, and Lorna Cain. Predeceased by sister Evelyn Smalley, and brothers Stanley Cain and Gordon Cain. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 in the chapel at the Low and Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge 23 Main Street South (905) 852-3073 at 11:00a.m. Visitation was 1 hour before. Spring interment Sandford cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Gengenbach, Eric

Peacefully at home after a brief illness. Beloved husband of Judy. Loving father of Heidi (James), Jodi (Tom), Jill (Jay), and Kurt. Proud grandfather of Sam, Duncan, Eamon, and Phoebe. Special thanks to Eric’s caregivers, including Doctor’s Ron Oda, Tom Stefopolous, Calvin Law, and Scott Berry; Kalli and Hyla and staff at the Sunnybrook Cancer Centre, Karen from Partners in Community Nursing, Lesley and the staff at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, and Rev. Joe Schafer. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Schumacher, Gerhard

Very unexpectedly we lost a great man today. Gerhard Schumacher passed away very suddenly due to a heart attack at age 81. Thankfully he was with his wife Traudy and was soon joined by his daughter Angie, son Kirk with wife Michelle and son Kevin, daughter Monika, granddaughter Jane and son Karl. In addition, daughter-in-law Anna and grandchildren Dieter, Alicia, Angie’s children Stephanie and Christopher and son Peter with wife Kay and children Elizabeth, Rebecca, Joshua, Johnathan, David and Daniel. Rested at the Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 Friends and family attended his funeral service on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with visiting 1 hour prior. Cremation will follow the service. In Gerhard’s memory, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. He will be sorely missed by his entire family and his huge circle of friends. Gerhard brought great passion to this world for the beliefs he held and great joy to the women he loved – he was predeceased by his first wife Liselotte and his second wife Johanna and will be sorely missed by his loving wife Traudy.

Welch, Ernest Byron

passed away suddenly but peacefully at Port Perry Hospital on Friday, February 23, 2007 at the age of 95. Beloved husband of Mary (Brunner) predeceased by his first wife Ethel (Barton). Survived by his children James (Betty), Joan McNair (Secord), Melody Frantzen (Peter) and Faye Graham (Brad). Grandchildren Gregory, Geoffrey, Robert, Jennifer, Jacob, Kyle, Lauren, Tess and Joel and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. with visitation 2 hours prior. Spring Interment Uxbridge cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 “Will be lovingly remembered and missed by us all.”

Thordarson, Sigurdur William (Bill)

Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday February 17, 2007 after a courageous battle with heart disease. Bill Thordarson dearest husband of 21 years to Judy (Rodd) and beloved father of Garrison. Sadly missed by his caring in-laws, Cliff and Jean Rodd of Greenbank, as well as Dave and Donna Kampman (Allison and Angela) of London, Neil and Sylvie Rodd (Jannelle and Alec) of Greenbank and Greg and Lisa Rodd (Nicholas) of Courtice. Bill leaves behind his chosen “brother” Jack and Sue Gardener of Pickering, his god-son Alec Rodd of Greenbank and his loyal companion Jade. Remembering him at this time are Daniel, Sandra and Lynn and their families. Bill taught special education for the Durham District School Board for many years and was an avid Bridge Player and gardener. Family and friends called at the Low & Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach St., Port Perry, (905) 985-7331 on Tuesday February 20, 2007 from 1 to 2 p.m. A complete funeral service was held in the chapel on Tuesday at 2p.m.. Spring interment Greenbank cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated.

Johnston, Josephine

At home with her family at Lake Scugog. Josephine was proud of her service in W.W.II as a Red Cross Ambulance driver meeting troop trains at night, while her pilot/husband was overseas, and of her years as Regional District Commissioner of the Guelph Pony Club that aimed many young riders at the Olympics. Citizens of Milton, Ontario will remember her years as Chief Librarian and her very active participation pushing for the new Public Library. Josephine Johnston dearly beloved wife of Eric Johnston of Nestleton. She is sadly missed by her children Leslie and her husband Chris Andrews, Stephen and his friend Mary, Sheri and her husband Douglas Crease, and Gregory and his wife Gloria. She will be sadly missed by her daughter in law Allison and long time friend Margaret Grant. Josephine also left her mark with nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. She will also be missed by her much loved cat Wretchie. A private mass was said for Josephine at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Perry and a memorial party will be held on her birthday. If desired memorial donation to the Scugog Animal Shelter would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Low & Low Funeral Home, Port Perry (905) 985-7331
