Suringa, Jan (Jack) Gerhard Pieter

passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14th, in his 72nd year. Many thanks to Dr. Batten and other doctors, nurses and staff at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital for the wonderful care given to Jack during his courageous battle with cancer. I would like to express my appreciation to the thoughtful visits my family and neighbors made to the hospital. Thank you to Low and Low Funeral Home for their assistance with arrangements and understanding. Reverend Alan Mills, thank you for your kind words and lovely service. Jack was born in Groningen, The Netherlands, and will be sadly missed by his brother Jeen Suringa (Anna) and nephews Jack and Marcel. A celebration of life was held at the Trinity United Church, 20 First Avenue Uxbridge, (905) 852-6213 on February 18th 2007 at 4 p.m. Reception to follow. In Jacks memory, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Jack, you will never be forgotten, your loving wife Joyce

Laing, Joshua

Over the past 11 years, a non native son of Uxbridge has been taken in as one of your own. After an 11 years struggle with Leukemia, we are sadden to announce the passing of a wonderful young man. Joshua Laing passed away at 11:15a.m. on Friday, February 2nd at the Princess Margaret Hospital at the tender age of 23 years. At his tender age he managed to touch the lives of a great many people. We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the town of Uxbridge that has always given a tremendous amount of love and support for our son, Josh, through the years. His battle was one that was fought by everyone in town, as we shared our experience with you. I know you also feel our pain with his loss. We would like to invite you to his memorial service that was held on Friday, February 9th at 2:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion on Franklin St. I know he managed to touch the lives of friends, family and strangers alike. In lieu of flowers, we would like to encourage donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. We, Josh’s parents, cannot express our thanks to the people of Uxbridge, who without your support, could not have gotten through this terrible ordeal, and experienced some wonderful moments with our son.

Peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of the late Rita. Dear father of Ken and his wife Lynn, Glenn and his wife Virginia. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Jennifer, Kathy, Taylor, Lauren, and great grandson Foster and his best friend Sandra. Step brother Don and his wife Ada and many nieces, nephews and friends. Doodchenko, Michael

With great sadness we announce the passing of Michael John Doodchenko, on Friday, February 2, 2007, at his home in Sandford, at the age of 51. Beloved husband to Sherry. Loving father to Amanda. Beloved son of Leo and Joan Doodchenko. Dear brother of Stephen and his wife Donna, and Kathy and her husband Nelson Cheung. Dear uncle of Taylor and Cameron Doodchenko, and Kayley Cheung. Fondly remembered by his in-laws Cliff and Dorothy Morris, Heather and Gord Balas, Mike Morris and niece Briar and nephew Brett Balas. Family and friends were received at the Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 for visitation on Monday, February 5, 2007 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. A Funeral Service was held in the chapel on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow services. In Michael’s memory, memorial donations may be made to the Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre or the charity of your choice.

ROSS, Clarke

Passed over peacefully on Tuesday January 30, 2007 at Lakeridge Health in Port Perry. Devoted husband for 65 years of Lillian (Benny) nee Fralick. Beloved father and father-in-law of Karen and Bill (Huestis). Loving grandpa of Kathy (Darrell), Kim (Ralph) and Kevin (Catherine) and loving great grandpa of Brendan, Stephanie and Alyssa. Clarke will be sadly missed by all, including his sister Marion (John) Quigley and his many nieces and nephews. Born in Canning, Nova Scotia in 1918. He came to Toronto in 1936, he worked for Danforth Radio and Multi-Tech. Clarke enlisted in the R.A.F. in 1941 and served overseas for 3 years. He was a member of Whitevale G.C. and worked and played at Crestwood Gold Club. Clarke was honoured with a life membership in the Lions Club He was a longtime member of the Seagrave United Church and served as a Steward, Elder and Choir member. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Smith, all the nurses and staff who so lovingly cared for him during his long hospital stay, also many thanks to Rev. Ross Carson for his many visits and care. They will all miss Clarke’s wonderful sense of humour. Family and friends called at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry (905) 985-7331 on Saturday February 3, 2007 from 1 to 2 P.M. A celebration of the life of Mr. Ross was held in the chapel on Saturday at 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation or the Seagrave United Church would be appreciated.

Pollard, Dorothy Elsie

Peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, in her 76th year. Dorothy beloved wife of Robert. Dear mother of Jo Ann Merrick (Guy), Pat Cordingley, and Bill (Gloria) Pollard. Grandmother to Trevor and Shawn Merrick, David and Kevin Cordingley, Darryl Knight and Matthew Pollard. Great grandmother to Ryley, Nikolas and Tyler Merrick. Survived by her sister Diane Everest and sister-in-law Olga (Polly) Merrick. Predeceased by her brother Ab Everest and Sister Joan Platt. Rested at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South Uxbridge, (905) 852-3073 on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. A Funeral Service was held in the chapel on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Interment Uxbridge cemetery. In Dorothy’s memory, donations made to the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer. On Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the Markham Stouffville Hospital at the age of 48. Patricia beloved wife of Steve. Loving daughter of Julia and the late James Fairley. Predeceased by her brother Ronald James Fairley. Dear mother of Michael, Julia, Sandra and Mark. Grandmother to Brooklynn. Rested at the Low and Low Funeral Home. 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 on Saturday, January 27, 2007 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral Service was held Sunday, January 28, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. Interment St. John’s cemetery on the Humber. Sidney C. Ellam
June 4, 1906 – January 24, 2007

Peacefully, Sid was called home to meet his Lord Jesus and the love of his life Betty (Elizabeth Davidson), in his 101st year. A loving daddy to Donna and Gerald Wills, and grandad to Laura. Dearly loved by the Pantaleo family and many others who knew him as grandad. He was an example of kindness and faithfulness and always inspired hope. His joyous smile, booming voice and hardy handshake will be immensely missed by his VCC church family and his many friends. Dow, Harold Sherratt Cunningham
(P.Eng)

passed away on January 23, 2007, at age 84, in Uxbridge, Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (neeGreen). He is survived by his children Mary(Marvin) Atkinson of Whitby, George (Audrey) of London, Ontario, Brian (Pat) of Calgary, and Douglas (Anne) of Melbourne, Austraila. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Harold was born and raised in Nanaimo, British Columbia and served on 17 Squadron with RAF in Burma during WW2. A memorial service will be held in Nanaimo at a later date. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Dean, Philip Charles

Peacefully, on Monday, January 22, 2007 at the Uxbridge Versa Care Centre. In his 89th year. Philip, beloved husband of Beryl for 61 years. Dear father of Nigel and Alan (Theresa) Dean. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Madelaine, Laura and Michael. Survived by his sister Diana and his sisters-in-law Clarice, Andrea and Deirdre. A Service to celebrate Philip’s life was held in the chapel on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge, 905-852-3073. Visitation was one hour before. Reception followed. In lieu of flowers, donations to the CNIB or the charity of your choice appreciated.

Stainton, Donald

passed away after a lengthy illness at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa on Monday January 15, 2007 at the age of 94 years. Former husband and close friend of Vivian Stainton. Loving father of Jean and stepfather of Cinthia. Dear grandfather of Melanie, Jennifer and Sara and great grandfather of Alicia, Cailah, Isaiah, Draven and Jaden. Don will be sadly missed by his loving and trusted friend Gail Gauley and her children Adrienne, Victoria and Caroline. Family and friends called at the St. Johns Anglican Church, Blackstock on Friday January 19, 2006 from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service was held in the church at 11 a.m. Interment St Johns Anglican cemetery , Blackstock.
