passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at the age of 91. Annie, beloved wife of the late Dennis. Loving mother of Marie (Barry) Duke and Joe (Lalita) D'Souza. Dear sister of Amelia Wallis. Annie will be sadly missed by her niece Dorothy (Ian) Taggart, extended family and friends. Resting at the PAUL O'CONNOR FUNERAL HOME, 1939 Lawrence Ave E. (between Warden and Pharmacy), from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2008. Funeral Mass on Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Precious Blood Church (Lawrence, east of Victoria Park). Interment Pine Hills cemetery.

passed away December 27, 2007. Beloved husband of Adalina. Loving father to Elizabeth (Ernest), Aggie (Jenifa) and Errol (Belinda). Proud grandfather of Evonne, Sharlene, Mark, Gavin and Darion. Friends will be received at THE SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL CENTRE - MISSISSAUGA, 1535 South Gateway Road (Dixie Rd., 2 lights south of Eglinton) 905-602-1580 on Friday, December 28, 2007 from 4 - 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish, 11 Peter Street South, Port Credit, on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. In Altheo's memory, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers.

HARKNESS, John G.

JOHN G. HARKNESS 1954 - 2007 Leading Toronto film critic John Gordon Harkness passed away suddenly at home, Sunday, December 16, of natural causes. He is survived by sister, Susan Mary, his brother, Thomas Kevin Harkness, sister-in-law Cecilia, nephew Thomas and step-mother Sharon Bell. He is predeceased by his mother, Theresa (nee Mavis) and his father, Thomas Frederick Gordon. Mr. Harkness was born in Montreal and raised in Sarnia and Nova Scotia. He earned a B.A. in English from Carleton University and studied film at Columbia University under leading American film critic Andrew Sarris. In 1981, Mr. Harkness joined alternate weekly Now Magazine as its film writer on the paper's inception. He appeared in every issue until his death, often contributing book and music reviews as well as film writing. He also contributed reviews and feature articles to Sight and Sound, Cinema Canada, the Cinematheque Magazine and others. He founded and edited Cinephile Magazine, wrote the first eight editions of The Academy Awards Handbook and penned three screenplays. As a member of the International Federation of Film Critics, Mr. Harkness sat on festival juries at Berlin, Venice, Miami, Thessalonkia. Mr. Harkness was an ongoing contributor to a variety of cultural, social, ecological and educational causes. In his private life, Mr. Harkness was an enthusiastic European traveller, a prominent tournament poker player, a developing tai chi practitioner and guitarist. A non-denominational funeral service will be held Friday, December 28th, 1:30 p.m., at the MORLEY BEDFORD FUNERAL HOME, 159 Eglinton Avenue West (2 stoplights west of Yonge Street). Reception on the premises to follow.

HEATHCOTE, Simone - Peacefully, at York Central Hospital, on Friday, December 21, 2007. Beloved wife of Tom. Beloved mother of Tom (Teresa) and Monique McColl (Robert). Loving grandmother of Emily, Scott, Tommy, Amanda and Madison. Simone will be missed dearly by her mother Aline Barker. Friends will be received at the "Woodbridge Chapel" of Scott Funeral Home, 7776 Kipling Avenue (at Hwy. 7), on Friday, December 28th from 6 until 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, December 29th at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

KEITCH, Wilson Raymond - passed away suddenly at Toronto East General Hospital on December 21, 2007, in his 88th year. Beloved husband of the late Hilda. Loving father of Glen, Brian and his wife Cindy, and Nancy. Wilson was a proud Veteran of the Second World War. Friends will be received at the SHERRIN FUNERAL HOME, 873 Kingston Rd. (west of Victoria Park), on Monday, December 24, 2007 from 10 a.m. until the time of Service at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.

CROTTY, Margaret - On the morning of December 20, 2007 after a long struggle with cancer. Loving wife of Gregory, beloved mother of Michael and doting grandmother to Sean and Jason. Also a devoted sister to brothers Tommy, Frank and Joseph and sister Carmel and loyal aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 27th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ogden Funeral Home at 4164 Sheppard Avenue East in Scarborough. Funeral Service will be on Friday, December 28th at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church at 3526 Sheppard Avenue East in Scarborough and then will travel to Resurrection cemetery on Taunton Road in Whitby.

CUMMINGS, David James (Jim) - passed away on December 19, 2007, at the age of 77. Predeceased by his wife Phyllis (nee McVeigh). Survived by his brothers Thomas (Ethel) and Robert (Audrey). Beloved father of Maureen (Steve Scally), the late David (Lynda), the late Kathleen, Stephen, John (Anna), Patricia (John Rosendahl), and the late Philip. Loving grandfather to Simon, Adam, Michael, Tina, Bridgette, Jonathan, the late Anthony, Jim and Alex. Great-grandfather to Kathleen. Dear friend to Icyline McIntyre. Family will receive friends for a "Celebration of Life" between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2007 at the Church of God D.C. (formerly Fairbank Presbyterian Church), 1 Ramsden Rd., Toronto. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Jim, to the charity of your choice.

DAVIS, Ruth Virginia (nee Muirhead) - At Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga on Saturday, December 22, 2007 after a short illness in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of Donald for 60 years. Loving mother of Pamela Strother (Larry) of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Donald Scott (Donna) of Toronto. Grandmother of Mark, Carolyn, Gregory and Lauren. Great-grandmother of Becky, Andrew and David. Fondly remembered by sister Betty Rome and her husband Wilbert of Sudbury and brother Dale of Whitefish, Ont. Predeceased by her brother George and sister Jean. Ruth was a fun loving person who loved her family, golf, music, bridge and her church. A member of Weston Golf Club for 33 years and St. Stephen's-on-the-Hill United Church, Mississauga for 33 years. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter 'Peel' Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy. 10, N. of the QEW) on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 3 p.m. If desired, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

Loving mother of Gabriella and her husband Bruno Santolin and the late Gianni and his wife Yvonne. Loved Nonna of Gary, Elaine, Mark, and Paul and their spouses and great-grandmother of Victoria, Vanessa, Breanna, Daniel, Aaron, Erica and Isis. Dear sister of Amalia and her husband Antonio Della Mattia and Marianna Toffoli. Sadly missed by family and friends in Canada and Italy. Resting at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd. (north of Lawrence Ave.), Weston from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial to take place Friday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church (811 Lawrence Ave. W. Toronto). PETER DOUKAS passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2007 at the age of 52. Loving husband to Dolly. Survived by his mother Politimi, brothers Bill (Bessie) and Perry (Sue). FondIy remembered by Kosta, Theodora, Stefanie and Hillary. Son-in-law to Effie Sgardelis, brother-in-law to Angelo (Kathy) and sister-in-law Penny (Derek Shouten). Predeceased by father Konstantinos and father-in-law George. Friends may visit the Jerrett Funeral Home (6191 Yonge St., 2 lights south of Steeles) on Wednesday December 26, 2007 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday December 27, 2007 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 3840 Finch Ave. East at 11:00 a.m. Interment York cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society - Brain Cancer.

JOAN MERYL FLETCHER Suddenly at home on Saturday, December 22, 2007; in her 73rd year. Beloved wife of the late Lloyd Fletcher. Loving mother of Catherine Sutherland (Rob), Mary Jane Fletcher, Janice Brennan (Ken) and Nancy Stoddart (Steve). Devoted grandmother of Miller, Alex, Christopher, Sarah, Katie, Kevin, Shellbe, Stephanie and Bradley. Survived by siblings Don Handy, Mervyn Handy, Lynda Schwenger, Janice Spring and Carole Provost. Joan will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Joan has been a longtime member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Friends and relatives may call at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, December 26th. Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 110 Line 7, Oro Station on Thursday, December 27th at 1 p.m. Interment : Knox cemetery , Oro-Medonte. Loving mother of daughter Nancy and son Jesse, she will also be sadly missed by Jesse's wife, Akiko and cherished grandchildren Kai and Ray. Loving and devoted husband to Maryanne for more than 48 years. Cherished Dad to Paulina (Malcolm) Goveas, Valerian (Christine), Iggy (Marion), Adrian (Maureen), Sybil (Nigel) Fernandes, Joe (Raj), Menin (Charlotte), Patrick, Carlotta (Cedric) Fernandes, and Leonard. Adored Papa to Joanne, Sheldon, Michelle, Shantelle, Dayna, Alexander, Emily, Shane, Candace, Celine, Conroy, Vanessa, Charles, Rachel, Alyssia, Amarin, and Sophia. Felix will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, and relatives - and friends.
