Michael John Tabbitt - 06/19/2006
On June 18 in Ottawa at the age of 68, in the loving company of his former wife Carolyn Strauss (Bruce Nesbitt) of Ottawa and his cherished partner Mike LeBlanc of Braeside. Greatly missed by his beloved children Nicholas (Susan) of D sertines, France and Samantha of Toronto and grandchildren Alexandra and Sebastian. Also survived by his mother Sybil and brother Peter (Gail) of Toronto. Born in London, he began his theatrical career as an air-raid-shelter busker and boy actor in the West End. A stage producer, director, actor and impresario since he came to Canada in 1954, Michael managed the final act with flair and lan. He was well-known in the theatrical world for his optimism and determination he always finished every production successfully and on time, including this, his last, a day after Nicholas arrived. He became the poster boy for pancreatic cancer, undergoing experimental chemotherapy and living with the disease for more than four years, to the admiration of his many friends around the world and the astonishment of the medical fraternity. Michael was in great demand for his skills in producing festivals and expositions, including the Salle Wilfrid Pelletier venue at Expo 67, the Arts Festival at the 1988 Calgary Olympics and Canada s cultural contributions to Expos in Sydney, Seville, Seoul, Lisbon and Hanover. He and his future business partner set up the Canada Council Touring Office and organized the first cultural exchanges with China. For eight years he was the Producer of Special Events at the National Arts Centre, Ottawa. For the time and location of Michael s post-theatre celebration, contact Carolyn at nesbit3@attglobal.net
