After a courageous battle with cancer, at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, in his 47th year. Franco, loving husband and best friend of Kathryn (nee Dill) for 23 years. Dear father of Nicholas and Cameron. Brother of Joe (Toni) Peloso of Kitchener. Sadly missed by many other relatives and friends. Friends were received at the Newcastle Funeral Home, 386 Mill St. S., Newcastle (1-877-987-3964) on Thursday, Sept. 9, from 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral service in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m., followed by cremation. In Franco’s memory, the family would greatly appreciate donations to the Memorial Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care); the Operating/ Eye Centre Fund at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville; or Newcastle Village Minor Hockey Association (proud parent of two Newcastle players).

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Anne Scherbak on Thursday, September 9, 2004. God came down and touched Anne’s hand and took her home to be reunited with her husband George. Daughter of the late Bill and Nancy Rogozynski. Devoted mother of Tim (Cherese), Diane Bertoli (Claudio) and Debbie Radford (Ken). She leaves behind cherished memories to her grandchildren Christian, Adrian, Stefanie, David, Jason, Ryan, Chantal and the late Sean. Sister of Mike Rogozynski (Trudy), Stella Brown (Delmar) and Richard Rogozynski (Marlene). Sister-in-law of Bill (Jo) and John (Norma) Scherbak. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home and Cremation Centre from 2 pm until the time of funeral service in the chapel at 3 pm on Monday, September 13, 2004. Rev. Don McKay officiating. With great sadness the family of Ione Hurley announce her passing on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the Sault Area Hospital, with family by her side at the age of 71 years. Survived by her loving husband Albert of 51 years. Loving mother of the late Dillon, Ila Ford (Eric), Shari Bedell (Jim), Glenn (Reta), Brian (Lisa) and John (Samarita). Grandmother of Chris Hurley (Heather), Greg Ford and the late Curtis Ford, Matthew Zappacosta, Craig and Dereck Hurley, Alissa, Tyler and Brent Hurley, Cameron, Kiara and Mallory. Great grandmother of Trey and Caleb. Predeceased by her parents L.G. and Henrietta Smith. Sister of Coreen Evoy, Barb Hanshar and Lachlan Smith. Aunt and great aunt to many. She was the most precious and sweetest to all who knew her. She devoted her life to her family. We will all miss her so much. We love you. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home and Cremation Centre on Saturday, September 18, 2004 from 12 pm until time of funeral service in the chapel at 2 pm. Pastor Steve Gudrie officiating. Predeceased by sisters Mina (Charles Thornton), Helen (Norman Malyon) and Isobel (Norman Burley). Resting at the Beggs Funeral Home, Thessalon where friends may call on Saturday September 18, 2004 from 10 a.m. until time of service in the chapel at 11 o'clock. Interment in Cloudslee Cemetery. Donations to the Lighthaven Christian Home, Bruce Mines gratefully accepted. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 211, Bruce Mines are requested to assemble at the funeral home on Saturday, September 18 at 10:45 for a service for their late commrade Angus Taylor.

passed away peacefully at the General Hospital with his wife and step-daughter at his side on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at the age of 86 years. Beloved husband of Gilberte Charron. Loving step-father of Suzanne Charron-Greco (Raymond) and Marc Charron. Sadly missed by his step-granddaughter Christine Greco. Uncle of Stefan Anderson, Katherine Anderson, Edith Almdal, Thomas Anderson and Kristiana Chess. At the family’s request there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Loving mother of Leona Lawry (Doug Cox) of Ishpeming Michigan and Heather Seabrook (Pete) of Thessalon. Special grandmother to Cindy Martineau, Michelle Martineau, John Martineau (Rayme), Penny Malette (Frank), Colleen Seabrook, Katie Seabrook, Bruce Lawry, Pamela Timm (Mike), Bernie Lawry, Pamela Timm (Mike), Bernie Lawry (Cindy), Shirley Currie (Steve) and Maurice Martineau and great grandmother to Kelcie and Ariana Martineau, MacKenzie Malette, Jordan and Dylan Matz, Joshua and Haley Timm, John Lawry, Joshua, Tyler and Andrew Currie. Dear sister of Lucy Martin, Margaret Foster (late William) and Edith Strachan (late Herb) and sister-in-law of Phyllis and Ceph McKenzie, Mary Bean, Lily McKenzie and Edith Millar. Predeceased by brothers John, Charlie and Frank Millar and sister Jean Hilderley, sisters-in-law Verna (Vernon) Carter and Margaret Cruikshank (Bill Nelles), brothers-in-law Victor McKenzie, Willis Bean and Cecil Hilderley and son-in-law David Lawry in 2001. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Gertrude enjoyed her flower gardens, birds, jigsaw puzzles and crafts. She loved country music, especially George Jones and she will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Resting at the Beggs Funeral Home Thessalon where friends may call on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 from 7 to 9 p.m. and at Bruce Mines United Church on Thursday, September 16 from 10 a.m. until time of service in the church at 11 o’clock. PRIDEAUX, Al
Wednesday, September 15, 2004

passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 13, 2004 after a short battle with cancer. Al was born in Negaunee, MI July 11, 1942 to Fran (Garrett) and Chet Prideaux and resided in Ishpeming, MI. He graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1960 and joined the U.S. Navy. After spending four years sailing the Mediterranean on the Admiral’s fleet, he returned to the Upper Peninsula to attend Northern Michigan University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social studies. Al spent his career at Rudyard High School teaching history and geography. He was also the “Close Up” studies coordinator, taking students to Washington, DC for intensive week long government studies program. He worked five years during the summer as a U.S. Customs Inspector. Al was an excellent bowler and very proud of his accomplishments. He bowled for 35 years on Tuesday and Thursday nights. (both Sault Michigan and Ontario). He won numerous trophies and awards and was recently inducted into the Sault Bowling Hall of Fame. He was president of the Soo Major League for over 20 years, and Past President of the Sault Ste. Marie Bowling Association. Al also enjoyed golf and singing “Karaoke” especially Elvis songs. His name is on the “Hole in One wall” at Tanglewood Golf Club. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. He will be sadly missed by his wife Bonnie (Armstrong) of 34 years. A daughter Christa Prideaux of Austin, TX; son Cory Prideaux of Waterford, MI; sister Mary Jo (Myron) Jandreau of Ishpeming, MI; brother Jerry Prideaux of Marquette, MI; aunts and uncles Marge and Paul Leffler and Bill Garrett of Ishpeming, MI; mother-in-law Joyce Armstrong of Negaunee, MI; several cousins, nieces and nephews and friends in Michigan and Canada. Visitation will be held 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday September 16, 2004 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. also at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home with Deacon William Piche officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Dear brother of the late Antonio (late Idea) of Italy, late Sabatino (late Ada) of Sault Ste. Marie, Dea (late Antonio DiCarlo), the late Elzia Mastrachi (Gaetano) of Italy and Orlaide Moscone (Antonio) of Italy. Special brother-in-law of Fernando Castagna (Anita) of Port Colborne, Antonio Castagna (Edvege) of Italy, Giovanni Castagna (Maria) of Italy, the late Francesco Castagna (Piera) of Hamilton, Fidia Morassut (Dioniso) of Sault Ste. Marie and Gino Castagna (Lorraine) of Sault Ste. Marie. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road 945-7758) on Friday September 17, 2004 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and then to St. Gregory’s Church for funeral mass at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Victor Amadio officiating.
