Tragically while on vacation in Panama with her best friend Claire Fraser at the age of 22. Cherished daughter of Margaret Buffington, Sault Ste. Marie and Barry and Roberta Buffington, Thunder Bay. Much loved granddaughter of Elizabeth Allcock of Sault Ste. Marie formerly of Thunder Bay and Ray Buffington, Thunder Bay. Special niece to Bill, Jim, Marion, John, (all enroute). Great niece to Barbara Lamb, Sault Ste. Marie, Laurence Lamb and family, Vineland, Ontario, Dorothy and Bob Butler, Aurora. Loved cousin of many, including Kelly and Jason Gartshore, Helen Gillespie, Chris, Alita, RhaeLynn Gillespie. Treasured honourary niece and special friend of Joanne and Robert St. Onge, Timmins, Lori Rainone, Toronto, Cathy Pappas, Toronto, Donna Dowhy, Thunder Bay, and the Gillespie family. Robyn graduated from Sir James Dunn High School and has many friends in Sault Ste. Marie. She then attended Lakehead University, graduated with her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and had started a challenging career with Canadian Border Services in Thunder Bay. She was well-loved and respected for her dedication and diligence. The family wishes to extend its deep gratitude to the Canadian Consulate in Ottawa and the Canadian Border Services, especially Superintendent Paul Carey in Thunder Bay for caring and exhaustive efforts above and beyond the call of all duty. Special thanks to Helen Gillespie for bringing sensitivity, compassion and bureaucratic expertise, and to Lori Rainone for the loving support of a friend. Robyn and Claire were best friends and roommates. They had both attended Lakehead University and were both employed as Customs Inspectors. Canadian Border Services is coordinating the establishment of a scholarship and bursary fund in their names, at Lakehead University. Services in Thunder Bay to be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2004, 10:00 am, Trinity United Church with a full colour guard by the Canadian Border Services, followed by a reception celebrating Robyn’s life, to be held at the Valhalla Inn. A private service will be held in Sault Ste. Marie. Robyn was a caring, generous, thoughtful daughter, friend, and family member. She enjoyed every minute of her life and she walked this earth with high spirit and joy. Robyn was committed to giving blood on a regular basis. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that blood donations be made in her honour, or donations be made to the Canadian Blood Services.

After a long battle with cancer, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2004. Beloved husband and best friend of Virginia (nee Beilhartz) of Bruce Station. Suddenly with his family and special friends by his side at the General Hospital on Thursday, August 26, 2004. Sadly missed by his loving wife and best friend, Karen. Dear mother of; Clare Archer (Tim), Michelle Forrester (grandson Jesse), Catherine Forrester and John Forrester. Beloved sister of; the late Marie Desmormeaux (late Clarence), the late Francis Dunne (late Thelma) and the late William Dunne (Della). Kathleen will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. At Kathleen's request there will be no visitation. A memorial mass for family and friends will be held at Precious Blood Cathedral on Sunday, August 29, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations made to the Sault Ste. passed away peacefully on August 26, 2004 in her 84th year. Helen was born in 1921 in Endeavour, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Ukrainian pioneers on the western prairies. Her early years were spent on a farm where she acquired her love of gardening and medicinal plants. During World War II, she attended hairdressing school. Shortly after the war, she married John (Jack) Hancherow from her hometown of Canora, Saskatchewan. They moved to the Lakehead where their eldest son Ken was born in 1947. They moved to Marathon the following year, where Bob was born in 1950 and Rhonda in 1959. Helen was predeceased by her husband in 1972, parents Ichtemia (Emma) and Metro Antemuik, a sister Anne and her brother Henry and sister-in-law Arlene. She is survived by her sister Mary, sons Ken (Anastasia), Bob (Wendy), daughter Rhonda, her grandchildren Tonya (Mark) Surman, Kyra (Graham) Stanley, and Jay, Shawn and Dane Hancherow. Her great grandchildren include Tristan and Ethan Surman and Kaiden Stanley and her special friends Kim Rainone and family. Helen will be remembered for her gentle nature and her spirituality as a following of Eckankas. Helen could always be found digging out weeds in her garden or cooking pyrohies in her kitchen. It is with great sadness that the family announce his sudden death on August 25, 2004 at Esnagi Lake. Much loved spouse “honey bunny” of Cathy Jewell, Clear Lake, Field; proud father of his three girls Sandi Kurchak of North Bay, Joan Servent of Lindsay, Maryann Kraan (husband Richard) of Wawa; proud grandpy of Jesse Servent, Kapuskasing, Kevin Morris of Sudbury, Mary Catherine Morris of North Bay and Andrew Kraan of Wawa; also survived by his sister Jean Butler (husband Jerry) of Regina, Saskatchewan. He is now reunited with his loving parents Mary and John, as well as baby daughter Cheryl and special fishing pal “George”. Jack had been self employed most of his life, first with Jach’s Welding and then as transport owner operator with various companies. He greatly enjoyed his last few years at home on Clear Lake “puttering”. He loved life – lived it to the fullest and left the way he would have wished. Memorial service will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, 253 King Street, Sturgeon Falls, meeting with family between 1 and 2 p.m. with the service following.
