DEVLIN (nee Greenwood), Muriel Lauretta
Tuesday, June 13, 2006
Momo died gently Saturday morning. She was at home, comforted by the love of her family, with thoughts and memories of Pine Island, her favourite place on earth. She is now the guardian angel of her loving husband of 55 years, Tom and her daughters Tessa, Betsy, Claire and Cath; her sons-in-law Derek, Eugene and Richard; and grandchildren Sacha and Oliver. She is also loved and missed by her sister Anne Marie; sisters-in-law Helen, Mary and Thelma; and Auntie Mo's kids Andy and Laurie, Cyndi and Al, Terry, Tim and Linda and their children. Muriel was a youthful spirit and a woman of few words whose playful and mischievous nature entertained her family and friends. She has touched the hearts of many in her long and happy life. She was an active member of the Catholic Women's League for over 70 years, where she treasured her Tuesdays with the St. John's Church Craft ladies. She was a dedicated volunteer at the Brantwood Centre for the last 40 years and she collected food and treats for the Canadian Food for Children program for over 20 years. Support for this organization would be a wonderful tribute to her: CFC, 40 King George's Rd., Toronto, ON, M8X 1L3 (by mail only). Friday, June 09, 2006
Laurel made her peaceful journey home on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the Tendercare Nursing Home, surrounded by her family. She recently celebrated her 86th birthday on May 27th. Laurel is pre-deceased by her children's father, Jack Gallagher, in 1961, as well as her siblings Shirley McLaughlin, Gerry and Hugh Bromley and her parents, Minnie and Graham Bromley. Her husband Frank Ambrose and her five children survive Laurel: Jeri Pearce (Bruce) of Sault Ste. Marie, Judy Glazier (Larry) of Saskatoon, Clara Gallagher of Calgary, Susan McNaughton of Calgary and Sam Gallagher of Edmonton. Laurel's focus in life has always been family. Her life was enhanced with the births of her seven grandchildren: Alicia Pearce and Tressa Van Midde (Gary), John Gallagher, Laurel Ann Byers (Aron), Brian McNaughton and Steve McNaughton, Marni Gallagher and Sam Gallagher Jr. Four great-grandchildren also survive her: Rynn Gallagher (daughter of John), Kayla McNaughton (daughter of Brian), Noah and Hannah Byers (children of Laurel Ann). Laurel's life journey included serving our country in the CWAC during WWII. This was one of her very proud achievements. Having raised her five children alone as a young widow with very little education, she demonstrated incredible strength, determination and sense of purpose. Against all odds, she taught all her children how to survive life's toughest times and to never give up. Thanks Mom!! Laurel's family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers from the Finnish Rest Home and Tendercare Nursing Home for your tireless compassion, love, concern, tenderness and care of our mother.
