Claires Markle
Mrs. Dorothy Claires Markle, 80, of Mitchell passed away suddenly at Stratford General Hospital on Saturday, June 8, 2002 surrounded by her loving family. On November 10, 1943, she was married to Donovan Garfield Markle who predeceased her on May 30, 2001. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Woodstock for 40 years where she was a member of various organizations and an independent business woman. They moved to Mitchell in 1980. She enjoyed close friendships in many places including Florida, Woodstock and Mitchell. Her happiest moments were her involvement in family activities. Dear mother of Bradley Markle and his wife Wilma of RR 3 Woodstock and Brian Markle and his wife Barb of RR 1 New Hamburg; cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Chris, Ryan, Tanya, Christian and Eric and of great grandchildren Kristen, Olivia and Zoe; dear sister-in-law of Ruth Diegel-Beisel; special aunt of Murray, Faye, Nancy, Janet and Linda and their families and other nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a sister-in-law Helen Eglinton and a brother-inlaw Howard Markle. Predeceased by her parents Harold and Anne (Collins) Diegel and a brother Glenn Diegel. Friends will be received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal Street, Mitchell on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. A memorial service will be held at Main St. United Church, Mitchell on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Camillia La Rouche officiating. Interment in Oxford Memorial Gardens, Woodstock. Andrew S. Kuepfer
passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at RR 1 Linwood and resided at RR 1 Newton. He was born 93 years ago in Ellice Township and was the son of the late David and Katie (Schmidt) Kuepfer. Andrew was a member of the Old order Amish Mennonite Faith. Beloved husband of the late Leah (Streicher) Kuepfer who predeceased him in 1991. Dear father of Leah and her husband Elmer Kuepfer of RR 4 Kincardine, Jonas and his wife Laura of RR 1 Linwood, Martha and Eli both at home, Mattie and her husband Amos Zehr of RR 1 Newton. Sadly missed by 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Vivian Jacobs
Vivian Mae Jacobs passed away on Friday, October 25, 2002 at Brunner Nursing Home. She resided at RR 1 Brunner and was born 79 years ago in Elma Township. Daughter of the late Reginald and Mildred (Kerr) McClory. She was a member of Burns Presbyterian Church, Milverton and the Gravelridge Women s Institute. Beloved wife of the late Karl Jacobs who predeceased her in 1996. Dear mother of Susan and Jimmy Venditti, Steve and Melanie Jacobs, all of Mississauga and Herb and Debbie Jacobs of RR 1 Brunner, Jim and Joan Anderson of Woodstock. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Rebecca, Danica, Taryn, Kristen and Jeffrey. Also remembered by her sister Jean Burke of Sidney, B.C., Edwin and Grace Rothwell of Stratford, brother-in-law Egbert and Mary Jacobs of Millbank and sisters-in-law Irene Glab of New Hamburg and Mary Beam of Fort Erie. Vivian was predeceased by brothers- in-law John Burke, Percy and Mildred Jacobs and Jozef Glab. A private family interment took place at Greenwood cemetery , Milverton. A public memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2002 at Burns Presbyterian Church, Milverton at 2 p.m. where Tom Godfrey will officiate. George Arbogast
George Peter Arbogast of People Care, 198 Mornington Street, Stratford went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, February 9, 2003 in his 90th year. Born at the Arbogast Homestead at Lot 1, Concession 2 of Fullarton Township, he was the son of the late Peter Arbogast and the former Maryann Schellenberger. Beloved husband of Helga (Zielonka) Arbogast, who predeceased him on May 17, 1999. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a sister Ruth Arbogast and a granddaughter Teresa- Ann on February 14, 2002. He lived in Fullarton Township, moving to Stratford in 1972. He worked at K-Mart and Burns Security for 15 years. He was a member of First St. John s Lutheran Church, Seebach s Hill and served as an elder on church council. Surviving are sons Roy Arbogast and wife Brenda of RR 2 Lynden and their children Jo-Anna and husband Matthew Botting and their son Tristian and Joseph and his fiancee Sarah Peer and Mark Arbogast and fiancee Debbie of London and his children Melissa and Juanitta and husband Chris and their children Bria and Brooke, and a nephew Hans Golz and wife Marion of St. Marys and their children John, Daryl and Anita. He will also be fondly remembered by Teresa s fiance Sean Walker. Cremation has taken place. Velma Dow
Mrs. Velma Mae Dow, 89, of Spruce Lodge, Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Friday, July 4, 2003. Born in Trowbridge, Ontario May 1, 1914, a daughter of the late Fred and Isabella Smith. Velma and her husband Ken owned and operated the Rayside Inn in Ingersoll for several years. Velma later worked with Homecare. She was a member of the Ruth Rebekah Lodge #2 Stratford and enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening and bowling. Predeceased by her first husband Robert John (Bob) Barton on August 7, 1967. Surviving is her second husband Kenneth W. Dow, Spruce Lodge. Loving mother of Earl Barton and wife Beth, Stratford, Tom Barton and wife Sally, Vancouver, Joyce and husband Jim Sommers, RR 1 Ayr, Darlene and husband Milford Adlam, Ayton, Ruth and husband Larry Nicholls, Mitchell, Mark Barton and friend Cathy, Stratford. Proud grandmother of 19 grand- children, 27 great-grand- children and three great- great-grandchildren. Also survived by a daughter-in- law Patricia Barton, Barrow Bay and by a brother Cecil Smith and wife Florella, and by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Edna Dow, Eloise Dow, Evelyn Dench, all of Toronto, Bert and Elva Dow, David and Dorothy Dow, all of Orangeville. Predeceased by a son Ken Barton June 19, 2002, by a grandson Geoffrey James Sommers, by a granddaughter Paula Jane Adlam, by brothers Russell, Robert, William and Fred and by sisters Minnie McKay, Florence Johnston and Olive Garton. At Lennox Addington County General Hospital, Napanee on Friday, December 5, 2003. Kenneth Rennie Beggs of Napanee and formerly of London, Stratford and Millbank in his 90th year. Beloved husband of the late Marguerite Winnifred (Freeman) Beggs. Dear father of John and his wife Norma Beggs of Arthur, Ruth Jenkins of Belmont, James and his wife Diane Beggs of Selby. Gloria Bender
The harps played and the angels sang as Gloria Ann (Bailey) Bender, 61, of Spruce Lodge was called to heaven on February 13, 2004. God s wish was to make her well and this was the only answer. She looks down from heaven with her parents Jack Bailey, Laura Bohms and her stepfather George Bohms. Gloria grew up in Stratford and never strayed far most of her life, concentrating on raising her five daughters. She enjoyed working on the farms she and her husband owned at RR 1 Shakespeare. Gloria will be sadly missed by her husband Elwood Bender whom she married on Valentine s Day in 1981. She was predeceased by her first husband Gary Schwartzentruber in 1980. Loving mother of Julie Schwartzentruber, Sandra Schwartzentruber and friend Roy Mooney, Cheryl Prouse, Deanna Bender and friend Chris Bondy, all of Stratford and Delphine Jarmuth and husband Rob of Monkton. Great-grand- mother of Jamie, Justin, Niko, Shaniah and Michelle. Gloria also leaves behind a dear friend of the family Mike Maisonville. Also surviving are brothers Steve Bohms, Stratford and Garry Bohms and wife Doris, Woodstock, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister-in-law Suzanne Bohms. Visitation to celebrate Gloria s life will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Monday, February 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Her final resting place will be Avondale cemetery following the funeral service on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Rev.
