Proud grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of 12. Brother of Doreen Cresswell (late Roger), Ellen Maitland (Gary), Dale Ladouceur (Beatrice) and the late Jack James (Eileen), late Mamie Gagne (late Rod), late Josie Dickinson (late Joy), late Edward (Tim) James and the late Albert James (Marilyn). Donald will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. passed away peacefully after a brief illness with family at his side at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater N.S. on Dec. 24, 2006, age 87. Born in Dartmouth N.S. Loving husband of the late Margery. Loving father of Christopher, Steve (Norma-Jean) and Jennifer. From 1940-46 Allan served in the RCAF as a pilot, discharged as F/L after one tour in Burma. Post-war he variously flew for KLM, Hollinger Ungava Transport in Labrador, and later established and ran the air service for Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie ON for 27 years. Moving to Mahone Bay in 1990 and was a founding member of the Western Nova Scotia Aircrew Association and the Silver Dart Chapter of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society. The author of two books and a tireless advocate of our Canadian veterans legacy. Allan will be sadly missed by many. Visitation with Legion ceremony at Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish St. Mahone Bay N.S. on Friday, Dec. 29 from 7-9 pm; funeral in St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay on Saturday Dec. 30 at 2 pm. Interment at Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Allan’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
