Shirley Mae Porter, age 74, of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24th, 2007, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.
Born on June 19th, 1933, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Irving and Madeline (McDonough) Porter
Before her marriage, Shirley worked at Williams Drug Store and was a Telephone Operator for Maritime Tel. & Tel., Windsor. Shirley and her husband Ed, owned/operated Ed’s Kwik Way Grocery Store, Falmouth, for over 18 years.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Edward; daughters, Catherine (Paul) Langdon, Saskatoon, Sask.; Lynn (Doug) Strong, Falmouth; sons, Steven (Sue) Porter, Windsor; Michael (Sheila) Porter, Ellershouse; grandchildren, Ashley and Meaghan Langdon; Brettanie and Mackenzie Deal-Porter; Adam Strong; brother, Fred Porter, Montreal.
She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Porter; granddaughter, Molly Strong.
Shirley was a member of Juniper Grove United Church, Falmouth; a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society; Heart & Stroke Foundation, and was active in her community. She enjoyed her Tuesday morning bowling group, her Friendly Group, knitting, and regular card games.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 26th, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27th, 2007, in the Windsor United Church, with the Rev. Glennis Smith officiating. A private family interment will be held at the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Falmouth.

Peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends after a brief encounter with cancer on Monday July 23, 2007 in her 70th year. Beloved wife of 48 years to Bernie. Sadly missed by her loving daughters Laura, Jo-Ann Talbot (Denis), and Carol. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Nathan, Dustin, Myranda, Ben and Pat. Predeceased by her parents John Robert and Sara Murray, seven brothers Alfred, Dougie, Wibby, Arthur, Mickey, Willie, and baby John Robert and sister Margie. Survived by her sister DeeDee Demont (Durling) and her sister-in-laws Betty, Christine and Rita. Fondly remembered by her many wonderful nieces and nephews. Ursula would like to thank all her friends and family from near and far who supported both her and her family on this final journey. Sincere thanks to Dr. Stewart and the palliative care team who facilitated her wish to stay in her own home. Friends and family will be received at the Gordon F. Beverly, the only child of Ronald and Alice Van Luven (owner of Van Luven Brothers, Kingston) . Loving mother of Janet Lee Olsen and Kevin Ronald Burke (wife Bonnie). Cherished grandmother of Heather and Brendan Olsen, Jay Charron (wife Debora) and great grandmother of Mason Olsen.

Kathleen "Cassie" Joyce Upshaw, age 87, of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away on Tuesday, July 24th, 2007, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.
Born on March 15th, 1920, in Forties Settlement, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Mrs. Nellie Maude (nee: Corkum) MacDonald.
She was formerly employed for 15 years at the Windsor Elms, then moving to Ontario, she worked as homemaker for over 30 years before retiring. In her early years, she did babysitting in the Windsor area and was also a member of the Anglican Church.
She is survived by her companion of 45 years, Robert Turner Millen; daughters, Maria (Jim) McCarthy, Three Mile Plains; Diane Coulson (James Jamieson), Woodstock, Ontario; sons, Clinton (Janette) Upshaw, Three Mile Plains; James Upshaw, Three Mile Plains; Gary Upshaw, Woodstock, Ontario; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Besides her mother, she was predeceased by her husband, Clinton Upshaw; a son, Curtis Upshaw and two infant children; brother, Percy Corkum.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 25th, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 26th, 2007, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. David Curry officiating. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor.
