Mr. Jon Erik Campbell-Smith
February 13, 1939 - August 19, 2007

With sincere regret Donna, Jon and Jason announce the early passing of Erik at his home at Maple Bay on Vancouver Island, British Columbia after a battle with cancer which he fought with courage and dignity. Erik was a dear loyal husband, a superb father, a delighted grandfather and a charmed father-in-law. Erik's life long entrepreneurial spirit was tested daily with his ever changing collection of cars, boats, skis and at times the odd airplane, both full size and scale. Whether boating on his beloved Muskoka Lakes in his Chris-Craft, sailing in his Blue Nose, paddling his Chestnut canoe, or carving those elegant turns down his favourite runs at Osler Bluff Ski Club in Collingwood, Ontario where he was a well qualified ski instructor with the CSIA, Erik enjoyed his time to the fullest. Putting together the next business deal whether big or small was a personal joy and challenge to him - he loved to make something happen! Erik's intense love and loyalty to all his family and friends were always apparent - he was always the first to say hello and offer a handshake. His love of History, Economics, Politics, his concern for the Environment - particularly the management of our fresh water resources made him a wonderful participant in thoughtful discussions. Erik's involvement with the Toronto Home Builders Association in the 1960's led to his creating his own building and land development companies in 1972 - Campbell Smith Homes and Camsmit Inc. These paved the way for Aurora Cars in Richmond Hill, Ontario and finally to the Muskoka Canoe and Rowing Shop in Port Sandfield, Muskoka, Ontario where his restoration work on small boats and canoes was well respected. A man of vision and the utmost integrity he made our world a happier place just by being who he was, day to day. He was a mentor to many. Erik will rest in Oslo, Norway within reach of the hills and mountains of his youth. If anyone wishes, a donation, to the Canadian Cancer Society or a personal charity would be appreciated by his family. Donna will remain at her home in Maple Bay where family and friends will always be welcome. Jon and Anna will return to Canmore, Alberta. Jason, Caroline and Mattie will continue to live in Braunschweig, Germany. Thanks to you all for caring.
