PRESCOTT -- Dolores Ethel Maville, 69, died August 14, 2002 at Brockville General Hospital.
She was born September 17, 1932 in Cardinal to Smith Baldwin and the former Ethel Murphy.
On February 27, 1965 she married Bill Maville at St. Mark Church, Prescott. She was a homemaker who was interested in camping and traveling. She was an area volunteer for the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, as well as minor hockey. She was known as the "Pin Lady."
Mrs. Maville is survived by her husband Bill and two sons, David and wife Lynn and Stephen; brothers Wes Baldwin and wife Betty and Conrad Baldwin and wife Jean; nieces Barbara Anderson, Colleen Heward, Cathy Schaeffer and Cindy Baldwin and nephews Bob, John, Jeff, Clan and Geoffrey Baldwin.
Also surviving are her brother-in-law Tom Maville and wife Shirley, niece Krystina and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Howard and Leeland Baldwin.
Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, where on August 19 the funeral was held, with Rev. Craig Bowers officiating. Cremation was arranged.
Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society were gratefully acknowledged by the family.
Ena Tuck, 90
Ena Tuck, 90, a longtime Brockville resident, died July 20, 2002 at her home.
She was born April 4, 1912, at Aultsville to John Pruner and the former Emma Barclay. She grew up on the family farm at Aultsville, one of the villages lost to make way for the St. Lawrence Seaway.
She married and moved to Brockville and later to Athens, where she raised her family of eight. She moved back to Brockville and cared for two of her grandchildren while her youngest daughter worked. Later she cared for her close friend Pauline.
Mrs. Tuck enjoyed gardening and helping people in need. She loved all her children and grandchildren, as well as animals big and small. She had travelled from the east coast to the west and enjoyed reminiscing about her trip to Paris, France.
She is survived by four daughters, Joyce Watt of Algonquin, Yvonne Blanchard and husband Kenneth of Mallorytown, Dora Cole and husband Ray of Perth and Evelyn Walsh and husband Bill of Brockville; three of her sons, Larry and wife Joanna of Athens, Wayne and wife Fay of Nova Scotia and John and wife Jean of Algonquin; 34 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her daughter-in-law Gail Tuck of Mallorytown, brothers Floyd Pruner and wife Betty and Walter Pruner and wife Lydia, all of Cornwall, and sisters Vera McConnell Hanna and Dora Crites Hansen of Ottawa, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, her eldest son James A. Tuck, granddaughter Brenda Bonnie Ellis, great-grandson Berty Blanchard, brother Howard Pruner, sisters Nellie Brennan, Ruth Cook and Ola MacKenzie, son-in-law Merrill Watt, sister-in-law Doris Pruner, and longtime companion Dr. A.J. McLellan.
The funeral was held July 24 in the Barclay Funeral Home chapel, Brockville, with Canon Bev Lindsey officiating. Burial followed at Oakland Cemetery.
The pallbearers were grandsons Robert Watt, Kenneth Blanchard, James Tuck, Tom Cole, Tony Tuck, Douglas Tuck, Bill Walsh and Ben Tuck.
Memorial donations to the Humane Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society and the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan were gratefully acknowledged by the family.
Ronald Laming, 60
Ronald Loyola Laming, 60, formerly of Toledo, died July 20, 2002 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital.
He was born August 19, 1941 in Athens to Gerald Laming and the former Lenora Cobey and was raised and educated in Toledo.
He worked for Cowan's Dairy in Brockville, Green Cables in Dartmouth, N.S., and in construction in Calgary, Alberta. He retired in 1992 and moved to Brockville in 2002.
While in Calgary, he organized and helped the program sellers for the Calgary Flames hockey team between 1986 and 1993. He enjoyed playing golf and darts.
He identified with Divine Infant Church in Orleans, Ont., and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brockville.
Mr. Laming is survived by his wife, Jane Knight, whom he married in June 1982 in Calgary, and by son Terrance Laming and wife Kathy of St. Louis, P.E.I., and daughter Tina Bloodworth and husband Jonathon of Kingston, as well as eight grandchildren.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Katherine Knight-Adams and husband Ian of Orleans and Leslie Ann Hornbeck and husband Garry of Calgary.
Two brothers, Raymond Laming and wife Dawn of Brockville and Gerald Laming of Carleton Place, survive, as do four sisters, Geraldine King and husband Allan of RR 1, Toledo, Christine Ferguson and husband Dwayne of Brockville, Margaret Leeder and husband Francis of RR 4, Mallorytown and Elizabeth Knudson and husband Jim of RR 1, Toledo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by both parents.
Friends called at the Judson Funeral Home, Athens, on July 24. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 25 in St. Philip Neri Church, Toledo, by Rev. Robert Chisholm. Burial followed at St. James Cemetery, Ballycanoe.
Willem 'Bill' Vankeeken, 76
Willem "Bill" Vankeeken, 76, of Maitland, retired DuPont employee, died July 14, 2002 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital.
He was born April 1, 1926 in the Netherlands to Cornelis Vankeeken and the former Adriana Magdalena van der Byl.
He married Catharina Stapper on May 8, 1952 and soon after they immigrated to Canada and settled in Maitland. He worked with Colligan Electric for five years. In 1957 he joined DuPont Canada Inc.-Maitland site, where he was employed as an electrician until his retirement in 1990.
Mr. Vankeeken was very active in Maitland Community Reformed Church for 50 years, serving as elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher and treasurer. His many friends there will remember his strong faith and dedication to his church community.
In retirement he also became very active with the Volunteer Bureau in Brockville and spent many years driving patients to and from out-of-town medical appointments.
He is survived by his wife Tina; three sons, Gerry and wife Cheryl of Calgary, Bill and wife Patti of Otawa and Ron and wife Marjan of Hengelo, Netherlands; and seven grandchildren.
Also surviving are sisters Aat, Ina and Corry and brother Kees.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother Niek and sister Wilhelmina.
Friends called at the Irvine Funeral Home, Brockville. A celebration of his life was held July 18, with Rev. Roland Glendinning officiating. Tributes were given by his sons, as well as Doug Cnossen and grandson Mike Vankeeken. Burial followed at St. James Cemetery, Maitland.
The pallbearers were Fred Allport, Darwin Cnossen, Matt Reil and grandsons Chris Vankeeken, Scott Vankeeken and Mike Vankeeken. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren Shawn Vankeeken, Willem Vankeeken, Tina Vankeeken and Marye Vankeeken.
Memorial donations to the Hospice of Providence Palliative Care and the Maitland Community Reformed Church were gratefully acknowledged by the family.
Frances Horsley, 85
PRESCOTT -- Frances Ethel Horsley, 85, of County Road 44 (RR 5, Spencerville), died July 31, 2002 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital.
She was born July 2, 1917 in England to Arthur Box and the former Frances Hyatt. She met Bernard Horsley, who had been born in Birmingham, England, and on September 24, 1938 they were married at Birken Hill Church, England.
She and her husband immigrated to Canada, living first in Quebec and settling in Prescott in the 1970s. They later moved to Crystal Rock, midway between Prescott and Spencerville.
Her main interests were her family, her home and her church, St. James Anglican Church, Crystal Rock, which was just a few doors down from her house. She worked a great deal for her church and people recall if the church was open, Mrs. Horsley would be there.
Mrs. Horsley is survived by her daughter Josephine Taylor, son Ed Horsley and wife Lora, brother Arthur Box, grandchildren Vincent, Michael, Raymond, Debbie, Allan, Tony, Norman and Dennis Ford, Trevor Taylor, Shannon Johnston and Nicholas and Chantelle Horsley, and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Bernard in May 1998 and her sisters Annie and Dorothy.
Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, on August 3 and 4. The funeral was held August 5 in St. James Church, Crystal Rock, with Rev. Doug Heyman officiating. Burial will be at Cardinal Cemetery at a later date.
The pallbearers were Trevor Taylor, Nick Horsley and Vincent, Dennis, Norman and Raymond Ford.
Memorial donations were directed to St. James Church, Crystal Rock, Hospice of Providence Palliative Care and the Canadian Cancer Society.
