Dr Lawrence "Laurie" George Dunbar MD DMR FRCP(C)
June 13, 1929 - May 27, 2007
It is with a myriad of cherished memories, and a profound sense of loss and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, colleague and friend.
He leaves to mourn his passing his loving and devoted wife Beth, their three children, Elaine (Graham), Ross (Sharon) and Brent (April), and eight adorable and adoring grandchildren; Chloe, Rory, Ora, Lucas, Claire, Dana, Silas and Autumn.
Laurie was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan on June 13, 1929.
His Dad worked for the CN Railway and his Mother was a school teacher.
Laurie was an only child.
Graduating from high school he fulfilled a life-long dream of a career in Medicine and received his medical training at the University of Manitoba.
Upon graduating he then went back to his home of Biggar and practised there for twelve years, at which time he decided to further his education and pursue an interest in medical radiology.
He and his family moved to Toronto where he was a medical resident at the Toronto General Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Children.
They moved to Edmonton in 1969 and Laurie was employed at the Royal Alex Hospital where he worked with Associated Radiologists for the next 26 years, retiring in 1995.
We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Grandview Capital Care - that host of angels that provided Laurie with such excellent care and gave him full measure of dignity in his time there and in his final passing.
Cremation has taken place.
There will be a celebration of his life on Friday, June 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Church, 6215-104 Avenue, Reverend Valerie Oden officiating.
