PRESCOTT -- Edna Eileen Elizabeth Spicer, 79, retired Black and Decker employee, died April 10, 2004 at Brockville General Hospital.
She was born December 31, 1924 in Bastard Township to Norman Jones and the former Eliza Jane Code. She married Ted Spicer on June 7, 1947 in Athens.
Until her retirement, she was a line worker at the Black and Decker plant in Brockville. Her interests included gardening, shopping, traveling, game shows and visiting.
She is survived by two sons, Roger and Jerry and his wife Brenda, and one daughter, Sharon Rose Dewan and her husband Mike, as well as grandchildren Curt Dewan, Angie and friend Bob Coville, Ted and Garrett Spicer, and great grandchildren Jenny and Tiara Coville. Also surviving is her sister Mae Davis.
Mrs. Spicer was predeceased by her husband, parents, brothers Ed, Clarence, Mansel, Joe, Mel and Howard Jones, and sisters Clara Whalen and Nina Allen.
Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, where on April 14 the funeral was held, with Pastor David Downing officiating. Burial followed at Maynard Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Curt and Mike Dewan, Ted Spicer, Bob Coville, Doug Moore and Billy Hodgkinson. The honorary bearers were Jim Marshall and Ron Jones.
Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Canadian Cancer Society.
John Mizener, 82
John Mizener, 82, a veteran of the Second World War and retired DuPont employee, died May 2, 2004 at Providence Continuing Care Centre-St. Vincent de Paul site, Brockville.
He was born to Lester Mizener and the former Luvia Allen on March 3, 1922, in Knowlton, Que. He grew up in Knowlton and attended high school there, graduating in 1941.
He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Montreal and trained as a pilot in Winnipeg. After serving two years in Canada, he served another two years overseas, seeing action in the European theatre. He was serving with the RCAF's 65th Squadron overseas when he was shot down over France. He managed to hide for 10 days under the porch of a French family's house while the Germans searched for him. He stayed in hiding until France was liberated. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of flight lieutenant.
Back in Canada, he married Geraldine "Gerry" Page (nee Vail) in February 1945 in Montreal West. He and his wife moved to Brockville that year and he started working there for the Ontario Department of Health.
In 1955 he began working as a chemical operator at DuPont and remained with the company until his retirement in 1986.
In addition to their own children, Mr. Mizener and his wife looked after 11 foster children.
He was a member of Christ United Church, in Lyn. He enjoyed his home and family, gardening and flowers, and traveling around the area.
He is survived by his son Arthur Page and wife Mary-Ellen of North Bay; two daughters, Connie Page Talmage and husband John of Florida and Mary E. Lane and husband Doug of Brockville; foster son Shawn Fodey and wife Shelley of Ottawa; seven grandchildren, Paige, Peter, Penny, Peter, Andrew, Michael and Marla; and several great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his sister Carole Wright and husband Orville of Prescott and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Gerry on October 15, 2003, and by a sister, Elise Miller, and two brothers, Lawrence and Rupert Mizener.
Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, where on May 5 the funeral was held, with Rev. Jean Baker officiating. His son Arthur, daughter Connie and son-in-law John spoke during the service, as well as Don "Buddy" Martin and Jean-Paul Page.
Burial was at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland, on May 7.
Memorial donations were directed to Christ United Church, Lyn, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Cecil Moore, 85
PRESCOTT -- Cecil Lorne Moore, 85, died April 23, 2004 at Brockville General Hospital.
He was born April 3, 1919 at Prescott to Wellington Moore and the former Elma Conklin. He attended Prescott Public School, Maynard Public School and Prescott High School, as well as Ottawa Technical College.
He joined the RCAF Radar Detachment in 1942 and was discharged with the rank of Flight Sgt. at the end of the Second World War.
In 1946 he married the former Maxine Lillian Lawrence at Seaforth, Ont. After their marriage, the couple moved to St. Stephen, N.B., where he was employed by the Ganong Bros. Confectionery plant as plant manager.
In 1953 he and his family returned to Prescott where he became plant engineer at the newly constructed RCA Victor plant. During his years of employment, he worked for Hershey Chocolates, in Smiths Falls, and DuPont Canada Inc. and was a stationary steam engineer at the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital until his retirement in 1984.
He and his wife then sold their house on River Road West and moved to Brockville.
Mr. Moore was a charter member of the Augusta Fire Department, Maitland. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in St. Stephen, N.B. and later in Brockville.
An active member of the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Prescott, he was involved in the men's choir, served on the board of managers, was superintendent of the Sunday school and also a member of the Session.
He and his wife enjoyed 12 winters at their winter home in Sebring, Florida.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Maxine, of Brockville; daughter Francis Wright and husband Doug of Brockville; sons Earle and wife Irene of Oxford Mills and David of Fort Nelson, B.C.; grandchildren Kimberley Wright and friend Forrest Herbison of Brockville, Jamie Wright and wife Kathleen of Oxford Station, Rebecca Redvers and husband Mark of Oshawa, Lesley Reid of Port Elgin, Trevor Moore of Windsor, and Alana and Corbin Moore of Estevan, Sask.; and great-grandchildren Jordyn Redvers, Carson Wright and Journey Herbision, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Philander Wellington Moore and Elma Moore, sister Geraldine Naylor and brothers Mansell and Elmer.
Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home on April 26. The funeral was held April 27 in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Prescott, with Rev. Ian MacLean officiating. Grandson Jamie Wright gave the eulogy. Burial followed at Maynard Cemetery.
The pallbearers were James Anderson, Willard Gaylor, Dal Delottinville, Gary Moore, Frederik Gauthier and William Ferguson.
Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Arthritis Society and Kidney Foundation, as well as to the St. Andrew's Memorial Fund.
Jack Darling, 69
John Bruce "Jack" Darling, 69, or RR 2, Lyn, died April 28, 2004 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital.
He was born November 15, 1934 to Sanford Darling and the former Hazel Dickey in the family homestead at Lyn and was christened at Christ United Church, Lyn. He attended Lillies Public School, Lyn, and Brockville Collegiate Institute, Brockville, and served in the Brockville Cadets.
He lived and farmed on the family homestead and worked at Automatic Electric in Brockville, then went to DuPont at Maitland, where he worked for the maintenance department until his retirement five years ago.
He played hockey and ball, bowled, and hunted at Leeds Pond.
Mr. Darling is survived by his son Bruce Darling of Brockville, daughter Heather Darling of Renfrew, grandson Mathew Darling, brothers Glenn Darling of Toronto and Garnet Darling and wife Pearl of Lyn, and sister-in-law Pauline Darling of Brockville.
Also surviving is his former wife, the former Laurette Box, of Whitelake, whom he married October 2, 1957; she now lives at Calabogie, Ont.
Mr. Darling was predeceased on June 28, 1991 by his second wife, Patricia "Pat" Johnson, whom he married May 30, 1986. He was also predeceased by his parents and a brother, Lewis Darling.
He is survived by his stepsons, Steven Johnson of Brockville and Peter Johnson of Kingston, and stepdaughter Catherine Wellard of Brockville.

James McInnis, 36
James Murray Arthur McInnis, 36, of RR 4, Athens, died of congestive heart failure April 24, 2004 at his home, surrounded by his family. His health had been failing for the past two years.
He was born Friday, November 24, 1967 in Brockville to John Fredrick McInnis and the former Josie Carson. He was raised in Brockville and attended Thousand Islands Secondary School.
He married Patricia "Patti" Bradley on September 1, 1990 in St. Peter's Anglican Church, Brockville. The couple lived in Brockville and later in the Athens area.
Mr. McInnis worked as a car mechanic. In his spare time he enjoyed working on cars and small engines. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his parents, John and Josie McInnis, of RR 2, Prescott; wife Patti McInnis, RR 4, Athens; son Kurtus James McInnis and daughters Elizabeth Ann and Kayla Marie McInnis, all living at home; sisters Shawna and Jolene McInnis of Prescott; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandparents George and Josie Carson and Colin and Augusta McInnis.
Friends called at the Irvine Funeral Home, Brockville, where on April 27 the funeral was held, with Rev. Bev Lindsey officiating. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland.
The pallbearers were Chad and Wade Woodcock, Del Carson, Cory Michel, Micheal Carson, Garry Broomhead, Aubry Dillabough and Brian Clements.
Memorial donations were directed to a fund for Mr. McInnis's children and to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Diabetes Association.
