He was born February 1, 1930 in Prescott to Lloyd Moore and the former Eliza Sterrett. When he was about 10 years old, he moved with his family to Brockville, where he lived the rest of his life.

He served in the Canadian navy for five years, then worked at Phillips Cables and Canada Bread before joining the Brockville Fire Department. He started as a firefighter in 1964 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1973 and captain in 1979. He was a captain until his retirement in 1987, after 23 years with the department.

He was also involved with the Brockville Rifles for a total of 40 years. In 1951 he joined the Brockville Rifles Bugle Band and was active for 12 years, achieving the rank of sergeant and earning a Canadian Forces Decoration Medal. After his active service, he continued to volunteer with the band, taking an integral role in organizing band functions and reunions at the Armouries. His association ended in 1991.

Mr. Moore was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 96, and served on the branch executive, as chairman of the poppy fund and as membership chairman. He also marched proudly with the Legion Colour Party.

With his Irish roots, he loved listening to Irish music, playing the spoons and singing his favourite Irish songs with his brother, Vince. He was also a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan, took trips to Ireland and Florida, worked on crossword puzzles and could often be seen enjoying a cup of coffee and a puff of his pipe.
