Marjorie Edith Flood, 82, formerly of RR 3, Brockville, died April 12, 2004 at St. Lawrence Lodge.
She was born July 4, 1921 in Brockville to William Joseph Webster and his wife, the former Edith Mary Batterton. She attended Brock, Prince of Wales and Victoria public schools and Brockville Collegiate Institute and Vocational School.
She married Earl Flood on October 2, 1948 in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Brockville. They lived in Yonge Mills, where they farmed the Flood homestead, until 1973. Then they built their own home at RR 3, Brockville.
Mrs. Flood was a homemaker but also worked at Toronto Dominion Bank for three years, then at Phillips Cables for 13 years, as a key punch operator. She retired in 1973.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Lyn. Her main interests were her home and gardening.
She was predeceased by her husband on September 21, 1997, but is survived by her brother, Howard Webster, and his wife Pat, of Brockville, and her good friends Grant and Marilyn Haskin.
Visitation was held at St. John the Baptist Church, Lyn, before the afternoon funeral there on April 15. Canon Bev Lindsey officiated.
Burial followed at Oak Leaf Cemetery, near Athens.
The pallbearers were Grant Haskin, Gordon Green, Don Turner, Craig Earle, Bill Bradford and Jeff Earle.
Memorial donations were directed to St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.
Clista Ann Taplin, 87
ATHENS -- Clista Ann Taplin, 87, formerly of Addison, died April 2, 2004 at Rosebridge Manor, Eastons Corners (RR 3, Jasper).
She was born in Athens October 4, 1916 to Rinaldo Covey and the former Carrie Stevens. Raised and educated in Athens, she married Kenneth Taplin in 1937 in Addison United Church.
She helped keep the store at Addison for many years and was also a housewife. She retired 30 years ago.
She identified with Addison United Church and Athens Pentecostal Church.
Mrs. Taplin was predeceased by her husband in 1978 but is survived by her son Charles Taplin and wife Jackie of Smiths Falls and two granddaughters, Patty Rogers and husband Mark of Brockville and Carrie Rathwell and husband John of Jasper, as well as five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Mary Rogers and Cole and Aidan Rogers, all of Brockville, and Patrick and Sarah Rathwell of Jasper.
Also surviving is her sister-in-law Jean Covey of Athens.
She was predeceased by six brothers, Russell, Neville, Elmer, Ambrose and Brayton Covey (who all lived in Athens) and Collins Covey (Lansdowne), and one sister, Marion Thomson (Rockport).
Friends called at the Judson Funeral Home, Athens, where on April 5 the funeral was held, with Paul Steckly officiating. Burial followed at Glen Elbe Cemetery, near Athens.
The pallbearers were Charlie, Joe, Bob and John Covey, Mark Rogers and Ted Thomson.
Memorial donations were directed to Rosebridge Manor, Eastons Corners.
Ron Mahoney, 67
Ronald David "Ron" Mahoney, 67, a retired home renovator who lived at RR 2, Brockville, died suddenly April 4, 2004 at the Heart of Florida Hospital, Davenport, Florida.
He was born March 24, 1937 in Verdun, Quebec, to the former Nellie Welch. His family moved to Maitland in the early 1950s and he attended Brockville Collegiate Institute.
He started working at the RCA plant in Prescott, then in 1957 began working in Brockville for Automatic Electric, later called Microtel. When he retired in 1985, he was a dispatcher.
After retiring, he started his own home renovation business, which he operated for several years.
He married Linda Hough on July 17, 1965 in Wall Street United Church, Brockville. He built their home at RR 2, Brockville (South Augusta) and lived there for the past 35 years. He was a member of Bethel United Church.
Mr. Mahoney had many interests. He enjoyed camping and had travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States, including two trips to the west coast, several to the east coast, two vacations in Newfoundland and annual trips to Vermont for family reunions. The last five winters he spent in Florida in his recreational vehicle.
He enjoyed constructing and operating model planes, cars and trains and was very adept at engineering parts for his various projects. He excelled at woodworking and had made several pieces of furniture, as well as clocks and smaller items.
He also enjoyed photography and golfing and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Mr. Mahoney is survived by his wife Linda of RR 2, Brockville, son David and wife Devon of Ottawa, sister Gladys deBlicquy and husband Hugh of Toronto, niece Noreen Besser and husband Ron of Barrie, sister-in-law Verna Brown and husband James of Brockville, special aunt Nellie Landon of Brockville and several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother Nellie Welch Mahoney, sister Dorothy Fowler, brothers-in-law Russel Fowler and Howard Hough, parents in law Grant and Dorothy Hough, and uncle Ken Landon.
Friends called at the Irvine Funeral Home, Brockville, where on April 10 the funeral was held, with Rev. Mark Arnill, of Augusta Pastoral Charge, officiating. Cremation was at Roselawn Crematorium and burial will be at Read's Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and charities of the donors' choice.
Dorothy Moore, 79
PRESCOTT -- Dorothy Moore, 79, died April 17, 2004 at Wellington House, Prescott.
She was born July 29, 1924 in Pleasant Valley, Ont., to Robert Wallace and the former Elizabeth Gilmer. She married James G. Moore and stayed home as a housewife and mother, enjoying her garden, bingo and playing cards at Walker House.
She is survived by her son James Moore and wife Darlene and by her three daughters, Janice Hare and husband Lloyd, Joanne Moore, and Roseanne Seabrook and husband Fred, as well as eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband and brothers Ken, Herb and Mansel Wallace.
Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, where on April 20 the funeral was held, with Rev. Ian McLean officiating. Burial followed at Blue Church Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Robert Juby, James O'Brien, Rodger Toupin, Lawrence Wallace, Gilles Trudeau and Ronald Jones.
Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Parkinson Foundation.
Gerry Butcher, 63
Gerry Butcher, 63, formerly of Brockville, a human resources manager and an active community volunteer, died of heart failure April 3, 2004 at his home in Spencerville.
He was born Gerald Douglas Butcher on August 12, 1940 in Coe Hill, Ont., the son of Harry Butcher and the former Hazel Ruchstuhl. He was raised and educated in Belleville and attended Belleville Collegiate Institute, Ryerson Institute in Toronto and completed the University of Toronto Human Resource and Management course.
He came to Brockville in 1977 to assist in the start-up of the Procter and Gamble plant and remained with the company until 1994. Then he started his own consulting business, G.D.B. Consulting, and was employed on contract with Alcan, Prescott Finishing, Trillium Health Care Manufacturing and Carefree Pools. From the summer of 2003 until his death he was employed with Nitrochem as human resources manager.
He moved to Spencerville in August 2002 and married Carol Shannon (nee Cook) on September 28 in St. Andrew's/Knox Presbyterian Church, Spencerville.
Mr. Butcher was vice-president of the Brockville Braves, a member of the Kinsmen Club, and a member of the Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario. He was also a director of the Spencerville and District Optimist Club, was a volunteer with the Spencerville Fair and was active in his church, St. Andrew's/Knox Presbyterian.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening, golf, music, dancing and hockey, as well as watching his grandchildren skate and play soccer.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Butcher, of Spencerville; daughter Dionne Fournier and husband Tom of Maitland, stepdaughter Colleen Shannon of Spencerville and stepsons Glenn Shannon and wife Joy of Spencerville and Michael Shannon and wife Christine of Prescott, as well as five grandchildren, Jillian, Hailey, Logan, Jarett and Alexis.
Also surviving are his twin brother, Jack Butcher, and wife Judy of Belleville and brothers Robert and wife Wanda of Belleville, Ted and wife Carol of Brockville and Donald and wife Carol of British Columbia; sister Karen Locke and husband Tom of Bramalea, Ont., sister-in-law Barb Butcher of British Columbia and brother-in-law Fred Dainton of Bancroft, as well as 17 nieces and nephews. Other survivors are his brother- and sister-in-law Doug and Marg Cook.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Erma Dainton and brother Curwood Butcher.
Friends called at the Irvine Funeral Home, Brockville, on April 5. The funeral was held April 6 at St. Andrew's/Knox Presbyterian Church, Spencerville, with Rev. Ian MacLean officiating. Burial will be at St. Andrew's/Knox cemetery at a later date.
The active pallbearers were Jason Butcher, Stephen Butcher, Dave Gill, Leonard Bellanger, Nathan McNamee and Winston Mount. The honorary pallbearers were Gerry McNamee, Fred Dainton, Ed Jankus, Bill Burdett, Doug Cook, Mario Riguotto, Richard Woodland and John Smith.
Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and charities of the donors' choice.
