Corrine LeBlanc Gillis

Corinne LeBlanc Gillis, 37, of 279 Jennings Cres., Oakville, Ont., passed away Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, Ont., after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer.
She was the daughter of R. Paul LeBlanc and the late Ann J. LeBlanc.
She was the beloved wife of Brian and loving mother of Patrick. She is also survived by three brothers, Rickey, Sheldon, both of Grand Etang, Inverness County and Brian, Mississauga, Ont.; two sisters, Patricia (Trish), Burlington, Ont. and Paulette, Milford, Mass.
Corinne will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by all her family, extended family, many friends and especially their children who meant so much to Corinne.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, Aug. 31, 1 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine, with Rev. Bernie MacNeil officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation, designated to Oncology, 2200 Eglinton Ave. West, Mississauga, Ont., LSM 2N1, or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

James Daniel Shea
83, Sudbury, Ont.
In loving memory of James Daniel Shea, 83, on Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, of Extendicare York, Sudbury.
Born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, husband of the late Cecilia (Boudreau) Shea (predeceased April 12, 2000). Son of the late Ambrose and Margarete (MacPhee) Shea.
Survived by children, Bernice Shea, Shirley Mirka, Mary Elsie Pigeon, Bernadette Shea and Bernard Shea.
He was predeceased by his son, Rudy James Shea.
Dear brother of Marge Kennedy (predeceased), Theresa Campbell, Drucella Hardwick, Eileen Stepaniack, Iris Merideth, Colleen Bailey, Fabian (predeceased), Thomas (predeceased), Joseph, Eric and Georgie.
James served as a sergeant major with the Royal Canadian Artillery, 1940-45. He was a founding member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 503, Onaping Falls. He worked in the accounting department at Falconbridge Nickel Mine at Onaping, where he made his home the past 40 years.
He believed in service to the community and a founding member of the Levack/Onaping Credit Union, Nickel Belt NDP Riding Association, St. Bartholomew’s Church and the Golden Age Club.
He was an accomplished tenor sax player, starting in the Maritime Army Band. He played with various jazz ensembles including Gib Whitney Jazz Swing Band. He loved Celtic music and Gaelic traditions.
Memorial mass and celebration of life at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Levack, Saturday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. Cremation at the Parklawn Crematorium.

Suddenly at Parkwood Hospital, London, Ont., on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, Mr. Freddy Lirette of Mississauga in his 49th year.
Loving son of Regina Lirette and the late Edgar J. Lirette (1973). Dear brother of Silva, Pius, Alphonse, Johnny, Edmond, Theresa, Julie, Mary, Emma, Patricia, and Judy. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Also survived by Greg, Mike, and Stephanie Travaline.
Predeceased by sisters Pauline and Ruth.

Peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2000, at age 86, in Mississauga, Ont.
Beloved mother of Margaret Cromie, Sidney Cann and Wilma Jacobs. Dear grandmother to Patricia Stellick, Craig Patterson, Brett Cann and Vanessa and Cameron Jacobs and Steven Cromie. Great-grandmother to James, Robert and Elizabeth Stellick and Kyle Cromie. Sister to Margaret Campbell, Allison MacMillan, John MacDonald, Katharine Peach, Arthur Smith, Georgina Milley and Alice MacQueen, all of Cape Breton. Mary resided on Maple Avenue in Glace Bay, until 1950 when she moved to Ontario where she raised her family and resided until her death.
She was predeceased by loving partner, Robert Bleakney.

L. Ruth McCallum (nee Shaver)

passed away in Mississauga, Ont., Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at the age of 90.
Predeceased by her husband, Donald (Bud).
Originally from Sydney, N.S., Ruth was an ardent tennis player and curler, attached to clubs in Halifax, Montreal and Toronto.
The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home – A.W. Miles Chapel, Toronto (1-800-616-3311) from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, June 25. A private family service will be held with interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto.
Hazel Howie
67, Mississauga, Ont.
Hazel Howie, 67, Mississauga, Ont., passed away Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Trillium Health Center, Mississauga, Ont.
Born in Sydney, Hazel was a daughter of the late Neil and Jean (Montgomery) Kerr.
Hazel was a registered nurse and a 1954 graduate of the City Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving Hazel are her husband, Aulay; stepdaughters, Judith (Carl) Orde, Calgary and Audrey (Angus) Matheson, Halifax; stepson, Murray, Halifax; and sister, Lois (Ivan) Green, Sydney.
She was predeceased by her sister, Jeanette Colson.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Friday 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Mike Thorburn officiating. Interment will be in Goose Cove Cemetery, St. Anne’s.
