Patrick Kelly
Stratford, Ont.
Patrick (Pat) Kelly, a long-time resident of Stratford, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, after battling cancer for some time.
He was probably best known as “Coach Kelly” after years of coaching Rotary and Minor Hockey, as well as coaching and serving as president of the Stratford Minor Lacrosse Association. He was nominated by Stratford City Council for Sportsman of the Year in 1975.
In his younger years in Nova Scotia he was well known for his boxing prowess. Upon settling in Stratford in the late 1960’s Pat was first employed as a guard at the Stratford City Jail. He subsequently worked as a merchant marine for a number of years and he possessed a genuine passion for all matters concerning the sea. During the latter part of his adult life he was self-employed as a general contractor.
Pat was born in North Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, son of Evelyn Kelly of Nova Scotia and the late Francis (Pinky) Kelly. Beloved husband of Gloria Gavin of Stratford. Loving father of Michelle and Jeff Carr, Rick Kelly, Sean Kelly and Lucy Russell, Shane Kelly, Debbie Whalen, Kathleen Kelly and Patrick Kelly. Dear grandfather of Jordan, Jared, Hannah, Sean and Keilan. Also survived by mother Evelyn Kelly; brothers and sisters, Larry and Angie Kelly, Colleen and Adrian Gordon, Jim and Joan Kelly, Anne and Paul McKiel, Sandra Kelly, Danny and Mary Kelly, Peggy and John Kibyuk, Kathy and Tom Green; 13 nieces and nephews and 7 great-nieces and nephews all of Cape Breton.
Predeceased by his father and one brother Fred Kelly. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Thursday, June 8 from 3:30-5, 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle, Stratford, on Friday, June 9 at 11 a.m. Pastor Charles Swartwood will officiate. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle through the funeral home.

Chad Ranni
24, Windsor, Ont
Chad Ranni, 24 of Windsor, Ont., died Monday, June 5, 2000, as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Ontario.
He was the son of Ernie and Audrey (Dye) Ranni, formerly of Whitney Pier.
Besides his parents he is survived by his wife, Sheila, and two children, all of Ontario; brother, Jason; grandparents, Lorne and Gail Lane.
He was predeceased by grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dye and the late Mr. and Mrs. Julius Ranni.
Funeral will take place in Ontario on Saturday, June 10th at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been established for Chad’s children, Colin and Ayden Ranni, contact family for details.

David Leo Joseph
Brampton, Ont.
David Leo Joseph, 80, of 167 Church St., Brampton, Ont., formerly of Sydney, died Tuesday, June 6 in hospital in Brampton.
Funeral services took place in the chapel at Ward Funeral Home, Brampton, Tuesday, June 9.

Ambrose Moquet
79, Toronto
Ambrose Moquet, veteran of the Second World War, died suddenly on Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his residence in Toronto, at age 79.
Ambrose loving husband of Lillian. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd. (416-241-4618), Friday, June 16, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2000, at 1 p.m. in the Ward Chapel. Cremation.
In memory of Ambrose, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Gordon James Pride
83, Sudbury, Ont.
Word has been received by the relatives in Sydney of the death of Gordon James Pride, 83, in Sudbury, Ont.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Mary Kate and William James Pride.
A graduate of Sydney Academy, he was employed with Dosco in Sydney before being transferred to Sudbury, where he lived until he retired.
Gordon is survived by his wife, the former Leah Oates, Sydney and now of Sudbury; one son, Roger, Langly B.C.; three daughters, Raylene (Mrs. John D’Agostino), Sudbury, Norma Jean (Mrs. John Wooley), Ottawa, Wendy (Mrs. Robert Malesh), Sault Ste. Marie; three sisters, Ethel (Mrs. George Theuerkauf), Sydney, Audrey Murphy, Cornwall, Ont., Joyce MacCuspic, Port Hawkesbury.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Rose Steele, Winnifred Dakin and Vera MacDonald; also by one brother, George Pride of Sydney.
A memorial service was held at the R.J. Barnard Chapel of the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, Sudbury, Ont. Cremation took place at the Parklawn Crematorium.

Edward (Eddie) Ignuast MacKinnon
80, St. Catherines, Ont.
Edward (Eddie) Ignuast MacKinnon, 80, formerly from Cottage Street, Sydney Mines, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at an Extendicare Nursing Home in St. Catharines, Ont.
Born in Sydney Mines, Nov. 17, 1919, son of Edward and Ella (Alderson) MacKinnon.
Edward was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He was an avid baseball player and fan. He had been one of the best shortstops around in the 40s while playing for the Sydney Mines Ramblers. He was a devoted Roman Catholic and helped raise many foster children in the Third World.
Edward is survived by two sisters, Mary Burton, Sydney Mines, and Juanita MacDonald, Ottawa, Ont.; four brothers, John MacKinnon, Sydney Mines, Neil MacKinnon, Sydney Mines, William MacKinnon, Oshawa, Ont. and Leo MacKinnon, Sydney Mines.
Edward will be sadly missed by three nephews, John Burton, Sydney Mines, Daryl Burton, Sydney Mines, and Charles Burton, St. Catharines, Ont.; and one niece, Ella (Burton) Murphy, who all grew with Eddie on Cottage Street, Sydney Mines.
Edward is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Eddie was predeceased by sisters, Isabella Potter and Bernadette LeBlanc, brothers, Charles, George, Alvin and baby brother, Leo.
Edward will be buried in St. Catharines Victoria Lawn Cemetery Veteran’s section, Friday, June 30, 2000.
