Michael J. Walsh

Michael J. Walsh, 69, a resident of Hamilton, Ont., passed away peacefully of cancer on Monday, March 13, 2000, at Henderson General Hospital, Hamilton, beside him, his loving wife, Helen.
Michael was born in Fogo, Island, Nfld., but was raised and educated in North Sydney, N.S. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Ontario Police Force, Supervision of Security and Fairview Mall, Toronto. He was a member of the Harley Davidson Motorcycle Association. He rode his motorcycle to many places throughout Canada and the United States but came home almost every summer on his bike to his beloved Cape Breton.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Walsh, formerly of 49 Kings St., North Sydney; a brother, Tommy; a sister, Geraldine; a nephew, Donald; a niece, Geraldine and several aunts and uncles.
He will be sadly missed by his brother, Gus (Viv), Sydney Mines, a brother, Joe (Marita), Connecticut; sister, Dr. Donalda Walsh, Sydney; nieces and nephews along with grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene’s Church, Hamilton, Ont., Friday, March 17 with burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Burlington, Ont.

Peacefully at St. Joseph Villa on Tuesday, March 14, 2000, Cyril Cockell of Waterdown in his 91st year.
Beloved husband of the late Muriel Cockell and dear father of Arthur and Marlene, Raymond and Linda, Robert and Ruth, Donald and Dianne, Sandra and Tom Gamble and Kenneth and Monique. Loving grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Myrtle Burchell, Cape Breton.
A family service was held from the Kitching-Steepe Funeral Home, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown, Ont., Friday, followed by cremation.

Loving father of Bill Spurrell, Norma and her husband John Hurley, Nancy and her husband Bill Mitchell and Stuart Spurrell and his friend Tammy. Dear grandfather of Brandy, Patrick, Sean, Kevin, Billy, Julie, Ryan and A.J. Also survived by a brother, Bill and his wife Mary and a sister, Marie Walters.
Predeceased by a sister in infancy and two brothers Herbie and Wally.

Anthony Bernard MacDougall

Anthony Bernard MacDougall passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at the Branson Hospital in Toronto.
Bernard is survived by a sister, Helen, West Palm Beach, Fla. and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was born in Christmas Island, C.B. County and was the son of Archibald Bernard and Elizabeth (Hartigan) MacDougall.
He lived in Toronto during most of his adult life.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary, Elizabeth and Johanna and a brother, Michael.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Alexander Gouthro
70, St. Catherine's, Ont.
Alexander Gouthro, 70, of St. Catharines, Ont., passed away Monday, March 27, 2000, at the General Hospital, St. Catharines.
He was the son of the late John Gouthro and Emma (Chiasson) Gouthro of Florence.
Alex was an Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He worked at No. 3 Mine in Florence. He was a long-time member of Branch No. 83 Florence Legion working as a bartender. After moving to Ontario, he worked at Welland Drydock until his retirement. Alex enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margie Laffin; daughters, Bernadette Riggs, Sandy Mellish (Brian), Paula Holmes (Frank), Wanda Winstanley (Randy); nine grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, James, Aloysious, both of Ontario, John Charles, Sydney Mines; sisters, Mary Elizabeth LeBlanc (Tony), Mary Olive Noble (Ernest), Mary Viola Chapman (Tom), all of Ontario, Mary Cecilia Harrietha (Earl), Bras d’Or and Annie May Bailey, Sydney Mines.
Alex was predeceased by brothers, John Francis, Louis, Ambrose, Joseph and Edward, sisters, Theresa, Bernadette, Julia May and a brother and sister in infancy.
Viewing took place at Lamb’s Funeral Home, Chorald, Ont., Wednesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Mass and cremation followed.
