Ray Power
80, Ontario
Ray Power peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, aged 60 years.
Beloved husband for 35 years to Beverly (Ginger) Power of Thorold. Loving father of Bertha (Richard) Vanderkley, St. Catharines, Stephanie Power (Tim Hebert), Thorold, Beverly (Andy) McLeod, Niagara-on-the-Lake. Loved papa of Katlyn and Elise. Dear brother of John Power, Dicky ‘Richard’ (Polly) Power, Laura (George) Fortune and the late Bertha Power. Ray will be sadly missed by relatives and many friends.
Ray was born Jan. 22, 1940, in New Waterford, N.S. and was the son of the late Richard and Bertha Power of Cape Breton.
Ray was a local musician, entertainer and songwriter. He was actively involved in many charitable organizations. He was an honourary member of the Thorold Fire Department. He was a generous, caring gentleman and will be remembered by many people.
At the request of Ray, cremation has taken place. The family received friends at the Karl A. Hammond Funeral Home and Chapel, 26 Ormond St. South, Thorold, Thursday 4-9 p.m. Funeral mass at Holy Rosary Church (corner of Queen Street and Sullivan Avenue), Thorold, today (Friday, Oct. 13) at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Monsignor Leo Clutterbuck officiating. Interment in the family plot at Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford, Cape Breton, N.S.
If so desired, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Catherine (Kay) LeBlanc

Catherine (Kay) LeBlanc at St. Michael’s Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000.
Catherine beloved daughter of the late Gilbert and Annie Jane (MacIsaac) LeBlanc.
Dear sister of John and his wife Margaret of Hamilton, Margaret McPhail, and Mary MacMullin, Dominion, N.S.
Predeceased by brother, Joseph (Joker), Sydney, Jim and Emily McCaw, Red Deer, Alta. (Sept. 26, 2000). She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the funeral home of O’Connor Bros., 1871 Danforth Ave., Toronto, Ont., Sunday, Oct. 15, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass in the Church of the Canadian Martyrs, Monday at 10 a.m. Interment in Pine Hills Cemetery.

William (Bill) Lockman
81, Elliot Lake, Ont.
William (Bill) Lockman, 81, of Elliot Lake, Ont., died on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Elliot Lake.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Henry and Sayde (Egan) Lockman.
He was employed at INCO Steel for over 30 years retiring in 1982. Bill was active in the Steelworkers Union No. 6500 serving as steward and officer. He was a member of the INCO 1/4 Century Club and the Caruso Goden Age Club.
He was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Lockerby and Elliot Lake branches.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary (McNeil) Lockman; his sons, Gerard (Karin), North Bay and William Jr., Mount Pearl, Nfld.; his daughters, Joanne (Rick) McClellan, Algoma Mills, Patricia (Don) Hinds, Hanmer, Brenda (Allan) Frattini, Elliot Lake; 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Lockman, Richmond, B.C. and his sisters, Bernadette Casebear, California, and Margaret Murphy, Edmonton.
He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Clooney and his brothers, Jack and Kevin.
The funeral and burial took place in Elliot Lake Sept. 26.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, L’Arche or any charity.

Valerie Puzigaca
50, Hamilton, Ont.
Valerie Puzigaca, suddenly in the Hamilton General Hospital, Hamilton, Ont. on Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, age 50.
Loving daughter of Florence (MacGregor) Stubbert and Orville. Dear wife of Jerry and survived by her loving daughters, Maria and Tania. Will be missed by her sisters, Diane and husband, Richard Gerrow, Barbara and husband, Alex Devoe, Paula (Michael) Stubbert; brothers, David and wife Annette Stubbert, Craig and wife Rita Stubbert.
She was predeceased by sister, Patsy and brother, Orville Jr. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Valerie was an employee at St. Peter’s Hospital, Hamilton.
Visitation was held at the L.G. Wallace Funeral Home, Hamilton, Ont. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000. A funeral service was held in the chapel today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Barbara Steiger
58, Brampton, Ont.
Barbara (Babs) Steiger, 58, of Brampton, Ont., passed away suddenly at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Brampton, Ont., on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Murdock and Carmella MacIsaac.
She was a member of St. Leonard’s Parish, Brampton, Ont. Surviving are daughters, Cathy Burke, New Waterford, Shonna (Richard) Bailey, Grand Prairie, Alta.; son, Raymond, Napean, Ont.; four sisters, Trudy, Boston, Arlene, Winnipeg, Sharon and Gen, both of Ontario; a brother, Raymond, B.C.; and five grandchildren, Melissa, Devon and Chad Burke, Garreth, Megan Bailey.
Visitation and funeral were both held in Brampton under the direction of Ward Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. in Mount Carmel Parish, Thursday, Oct. 19, with Fr. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.

Robert B. Hollingsworth
41, Cornwall, Ont.
Robert Blair Hollingsworth, 41, a resident of 101 Jarvis St., Cornwall, Ont., formerly of North Sydney, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at the Rosemont General Hospital, Montreal, after a brief illness.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of Delbert and Rose (Townsend) Hollingsworth of North Sydney.
He was employed with Travellers Transport Company as a dispatcher.
Surviving, besides his parents, are his companion, Sharon MacIntyre; children, Jordan and Nicole Hollingsworth, Scarborough, Ont.; brother, Earl (Kelly) Hollingsworth; sisters, Della (Mrs. Gordon Crews) and Melody (Mrs. Colin Bastine), all of Scarborough; nieces, Charleen, Amanda and Kacey Rose; step-children, Jordan and Samantha. Also surviving are a number of aunts and uncles.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney with Rev. Murdock MacRae officiating. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Cyril Sidney (Peter) Ball
Ontario
Cyril Sidney (Peter) Ball born in Sydney River in 1922. passed away at his home in Fort Erie, Ontario, Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at the age of 78 years after a struggle with cancer.
Loving husband of Erma Ball (nee Pledge) of Sydney. Survived by his son David, daughter-in-law Sharlene and two grandchildren, Darrel and Josie, all of Cambridge, Ont., sisters, Agnes (Girlie) and Jean Ball, both of Sydney River, brothers-in-law, Fred Pledge of Sydney and John Pledge of Lahabra, California, sisters-in-law, Evelyn Ball (Holt) and Phyllis Ball of Sydney, Isabel McLean of Dryden, Ont., Phyllis Meade of Halifax, N.S., Joan Pledge of Lahabra, California.
He was predeceased by his son Joseph and five brothers.
Peter served with the army overseas during the Second World War and was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. #12 in Sydney, N.S.
Cremation has taken place. A private burial of ashes will take place Thursday, Oct. 26, in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. A memorial service in memory of Pete’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. #12 on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 2-4 p.m. The Ladies Auxiliary will provide a reception for those who wish to remain.
For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements entrusted to the Fort Erie Chapel of the Davidson Funeral Homes, 21 Wintemute St. along with Pete’s nephew Cordell Ball and his wife Helen.
A special thanks to the Community Care Access Center, Niagara, for your truly caring nature.
Our hearts will hold you forever Pete.
