Martin Hugh Johnson (Marty), 52, son of Mary and William Harper Johnson of Sydney Mines, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, in Toronto.
He is survived by son Jason Johnson of London, Ont. and daughter Lisa Johnson of Ottawa, brothers, Junior (J.R.) Johnson of Halifax, Alex Johnson of Sydney Mines, John Charles (Chucky) Johnson of Bras d’Or, Joseph (Joe) Johnson of London, Ont., sisters, Nora Lawton of London, Ont., Mary Sara of B.C., Kathy Solem (Kay) of London, Ont.
He was predeceased by his mother Mary Johnson (Boyd) and father William Johnson (Harper), sisters, Carol Pollock, Emma Bunio, and Aggie Rushton.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 20, in London, Ont.

Suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa, at the age of 31.
John, beloved son of Lionel and Mary MacIsaac, dear brother of Lorna and her husband, Bruce Rogers, and Robert MacIsaac. Special uncle to Diane and Ashley Rogers. Loved grandson of Tom and Mary Kennedy of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and nephew to numerous aunts and uncles.
Friends may call at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King St. East, Oshawa, today (Tuesday), Oct. 24 from 7-9 p.m. with a funeral service in the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. Interment in Thornton Cemetery, Oshawa.
Memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Freda Waye of Scarborough, Ont., passed away Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at the Lamoreaux Nursing Home (Cana Place).
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of Roderick and Eliza (Vickers) MacDonald.
She was predeceased by her husband George, son Thomas, sister Nellie, brothers, Burns, George and Carman.
Surviving are sisters, Muriel MacGregor, Sydney Mines, Lorraine Watson (Duncan), B.C., grandsons, D’arcy and Darryl and granddaughter Jessica Waye.
A memorial service was held at the Anglican Chapel (Cana Place) Rev. Gordon Pyce and Rev. Katherine Treganow officiating. Burial took place in Toronto.
Valerie (Stubbert) Puzigaca
50, Hamilton, Ont.
Valerie Puzigaca, 50, of Hamilton, Ont., passed away suddenly at the Hamilton General Hospital on Friday, Oct. 13, 2000.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daugher of Orville and Helen F. (MacGregor) Stubbert of Sydney Mines.
Besides her parents she is survived by her husband Jerry, daughters, Maria and Tania, all of Hamilton, sisters, Diane (Richard) Gerrow, Sydney Mines, Barbara (Alex) Devoe, Alder Point, Paula (Michael) Stubbert, North Sydney, brothers, David (Annette) Stubbert, Winnipeg, Man., Craid (Rita) Stubbert, Geary, N.B., and Bruce (Joyce) Stubbert, Hamilton, Ont. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brother Orville Jr., a sister Patricia in infancy, her maternal grandparents James and Isabel (Walshman) MacGregor and paternal grandparents William and Florence (MacPhee) Stubbert.
Valerie was an employee at St. Peter’s Hospital, Hamilton.
A funeral service was held in the chapel of L.G. Wallace Funeral Home, Hamilton, Ont. on Oct. 17, 2000. Cremation has taken place.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Veronica Karen Griffin
55, Kitchener, ON / Glace Bay
V. Karen Griffin, 55, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in the Grand River Healthcare Complex, Kitchener, Ont., after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Vera Griffin, Dominion Street, Passchendaele.
Karen is survived by her loving sister, Debbie Lee (John) Lewis, Glace Bay and three devoted brothers, George (Leonie), Moncton, N.B., William (Judy), Port Hawkesbury, N.S. and Joseph (Rosalie), Londonderry, N.S. and by her long time friend, Jean Kinnear.
Besides her loving family, she will be sadly missed by a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts, many of whom she recently visited this past June while touring through Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, finally to arrive in her beloved Cape Breton.
She will always be remembered for her loving and caring ways, her quick wit, kind smile, her love for animals, music, the ocean and her family.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.

At his home in Hamilton, Ont., after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, in his 68th year.
Beloved husband of Gertrude (MacPherson). Beloved father of Tom and his wife Nora and Robert and his wife Debbie. Proud poppy of Sarah, Christina, Tim, Robert James (R.J.) and Paul. Dear brother of Jackie, Mary MacKinnon and his twin sister, Leone MacPherson.
Predeceased by his son, Paul, his parents, Andrea and Vincent, his sister, Anita and his brothers, Billie and Wilfred.
Aubrey was a retired employee of Dofasco after 29 1/2 years of service and was a foster father for Hamilton-Wentworth Children’s Aid Society for 38 years.
Friends may be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Dr., Stoney Creek, Monday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. Interment Blackheath United Church Cemetery.

Margaret (MacKeigan) Henry of London, Ont., died on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of John A. and Jessie (Youden) MacKeigan. Predeceased by her parents, oldest son, Ron, brothers, Eion, Gerald, Donald and Earl and by sister, Betty Ballantine. She is lovingly survived by sons, Tom and David and by daughter, Brenda Romplf, with whom she resided; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Ruth David, St. Thomas, Ont., Gert Marsh and Cora Buerde, both of Brampton, Ont., Agnes MacKinnon and Joan Roberts, both of Sydney; five brothers, Herbert, Alfred, Charlie, James, Carl and also stepmother, Muriel, all of Sydney. Burial took place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Oshawa, Ont.
