Kathleen Grace Cunliffe
41, St. Catherine's, Ont.
With deep sorrow, the family regrets to announce the death of Kathleen (Kathy) Cunliffe at Hotel Dieu Hospital, St. Catharines, Ont., Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000. She was 41.
Formerly from Sydney Mines, N.S., she had lived in St. Catharines for the last number of years.
Kathy is survived by her daughters, Amanda and Bernadine. Also by her mother, Kathleen Burgoyne, Sydney Mines; sisters, Jean, Sydney Mines, Mildred, Moncton, Bernadine, St. Catharines, Christine (Tom) Farrell, Paris, Pam, Elliot Lake and brothers, Alex, Sydney Mines, Peter (Liz) Cunliffe, St. Catharines, David and Kenneth, British Columbia. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Kathy will also be dearly missed by her many friends and special friends, Nick, Sid, Donna and Marg.
Kathy was predeceased by her father, Peter and sisters, Mary and Doreen, brothers, William, Leonard and John.
Visitation is being held at the Butler Funeral Home, 424 Niagara St., 11-1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000. Service to follow.

Rita Campbell
77, Windsor
Rita Campbell, 77, died suddenly on Monday, Oct. 16, 2000.
Beloved wife of 52 years of Lamey. Loving mother of Greg and wife Sharon, Maureen and husband David Miller, Terry and Sandy and wife Bev. Dear sister of Joe Samson and wife Fran and the late Teresa. Dear sister-in-law of Kevin Armstrong.
Funeral took place in Ontario.
Donations may be made to the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.

John Hughie Beaton
57, Ignace, Ont.
John Hughie Beaton, 57, of Ignace, Ont., died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in the Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Bras d’Or, he was a son of the late Phillip and Kathleen (Christie) Beaton.
He was a miner until 1989 then became an employee of the Township of Ignace.
Surviving are daughters, Alanna (Michael O’Connor), Stephanie (Sylvain Nadeau); sister, Leona MacGregor, Nyanza; grandchildren, T.J., Chelsey, Reyan, Danica.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Joan MacAskill, sisters, Phyllis and Heather.
Cremation has taken place. At John’s request there will be no visitation or memorial service.
Interment of John and Joan’s ashes at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck or Dryden Regional Health Centre.
Arrangements under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck.

Mary Edith Gallant
64, Hamilton, Ont
Mary Edith (Martin) Gallant, 64, of Hamilton, Ont., passed away peacefully on Sept. 3, 2000, at her home in Hamilton, Ont.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Boone) Martin.
She is survived by longtime companion, Leo Arsenault; two sons, Stacy (Tammy) and Drew (Wendy), grandchildren, Josh and Meaghan, all of Ontario; sisters, Rita (Elmer), Hamilton, Ont., Cecilia Lynk, Kay Marchesin, Eileen Brown (Urban), all of Glace Bay; brothers, Ronnie (Anne), Fabe (Chuckie), Bill (Debbie), all of Glace Bay, Leo (Gail), Hamilton, Ont., Paul (Liz), Kitchener, Ont; sisters-in-law, Betty Bauman, Karen Martin, both of Glace Bay; brother-in-law, Bernie Thomas, Port Morien; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Harry and Bob, sister, Mell Thomas.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held at St. John’s Church, Glace Bay, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery. Reception to follow at St. John’s auditorium.

Margaret ‘Marg’ York
51, Oshawa, Ont.
At Lakeridge Health – Oshawa on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at the age of 51.
Loving wife of Lionel (Lee). Mrs. York is survived by her daughter, Suzanne and her husband Carmello Scaffidi, her son, Gary and her son, Sean Healey-York. Nanny of Amanda, Tori and Selina. Survived by her sisters, Diane (Mrs. Tony Serwatuk), Junie (Mrs. Butch Tanzola), Marlene (Mrs. Wayne Devoe), Carol (Mrs. George Campbell), Betty Ducett, Kim (Mrs. John MacNeil), Sherry (Mrs. Lorne MacLean) and her brothers, Wayne Yhard, Dougie Yhard, Joey MacEachern, Tom MacEachern and Alex MacEachern.
Friends may call at Oshawa Funeral Service “Thornton Chapel”, 847 King St. West (721-1234), Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. Funeral service in the Chapel, Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. Entombment Thornton Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Edward Fraser Pyke Sr
90, Scarborough, Ont.
Edward Fraser Pyke Sr., passed away peacefully, Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at the Scarborough General Hospital, in his 91st year.
Predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years Ethel. Beloved father of Edward Jr. (Chum), Leonard and Lois Elvin. Cherished grandpa of eight grandchildren; brother of Roy.
Edward will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many family and friends in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Friends may visit the Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Rd., Scarborough, Ont., M1K-2B5 (416) 266-4404 (between Eglinton and St. Clair Aves. East), Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at 11 a.m. in Agincourt Salvation Army Temple (3080 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough, Ont.) Interment at Pine Hills Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Missionary Fund or the Salvation Army.

Lucy Ann Boutilier
Kincardine, Ont.
Lucy Ann Boutilier of Kincardine, Ont., died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, in her 80th year.
Ann, as known to family and friends, led an extraordinary life, from being born and raised in England with her brothers and sisters (Derek and the late Ronald Landers, Elsie Shand and the late Gladys Lindsay), to enlisting in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War (1941-1945).
She married the late Avard Boutilier in London in 1946, and travelled, as a war bride, on the Queen Mary, overseas to settle in Cape Breton that same year.
Starting a family that has three loving children, eldest son, Keith of Nova Scotia, daughter, Gillian and son, Clive, both of Ontario; five grandchildren, Corey of Nova Scotia, Elizabeth, Scott, Wyatt and Alexandrea, all of Ontario, who will forever remain in her debt.
Ann travelled many miles before settling in Kincardine, Ont., amongst a multitude of friends, to whom the family is eternally grateful for their kindness and support.
There was no visitation. Cremation took place. Interment was held Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Glace Bay with Rev. Fev Arnold officiating.
Any contributions may be made, in Ann’s name, to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
