Laura Mary Fortune (nee Power), at her residence in Thorold, Laura was taken home to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, in her 67th year.
Born June 15, 1934 in New Waterford, Cape Breton, N.S.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, George; sons, Richard (Carolyn), Terrence, Hugh, George (Joan), James and daughters, Shannon, Marybeth and Frances. Dear grandmother of Richard, Jason, Chantal, Ashley, Mark, Alicia and Tara. Dear sister of Richard (Polly) Power Jr. and Johnny Power of Cape Breton.
Predeceased by her parents, Richard and Bertha Power, a son, Joseph Fortune (Dec. 18, 1993), a sister, Bertha and a brother, Raymond Power.
At the request of Laura, cremation has taken place. The family will receive their friends at the Karl A. Hammond Funeral Home and Chapel, 25 Ormond St. South, Thorold, Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass at Holy Rosary Church (corner of Queen Street and Sullivan Avenue), Thorold, Saturday, Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. Interment in the family plot at Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford, Cape Breton, N.S.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hotel Dieu Hospital Oncology Clinic would be appreciated by the family.
Steven Joseph Reid
St. Catherines, Ont.
Suddenly at home in St. Catharines, Ont., Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at the age of 40.
Steven was born June 6, 1960 in Moose Jaw, Sask. and raised in Nova Scotia and P.E.I. He is the son of Theresa Reid and the late Gordon Reid.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, Clifford and sister, Diane Drewanz and his special loving Aunt Mary and Uncle Bill Flanagan. He is also survived by his special companion, Tammy Johnson and her three children, Samantha, Jacob and Christopher Johnson.
He will be missed by his grandmother, Josephine Serroul and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Steven was employed by Peninsula Fence and Landscaping Co.
Friends will be received at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, 39 Court St. (at King) today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. followed by cremation.
Those wishing, may make memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Ontario.
Bernard McPhee
83, Hamilton, Ont.
Bernard McPhee, 83, of Hamilton, Ont. and formerly of Reserve Mines, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at the Hamilton General Hospital.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Alexander and Christena (MacDonald) McPhee.
He was a veteran of the Second World War and was employed at the Sydney Steel Plant until his retirement.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen; sons, David (Jane), Burlington, Ont., Arthur (Florence), Kentville, N.S.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean, brothers, Anthony, Henry, sisters, Margaret (Mrs. John Dunphy), Mary Flora (Mrs. Matt MacNeil), Alexandra (Mrs. Max Brocklehurst).
Cremation has taken place with committal in St. Theresa Cemetery, Grand Lake Road at a later date.

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Mary after a lengthy fight with cancer. Mary passed away on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, with her daughter by her side.
Originally from Cape Breton, Mary is survived by her husband of 52 years, William, also from Cape Breton; five sons, Jim and companion Sabra, John and wife Gwen, Walter and wife Chris, Philip and wife Mary, David and wife Kathy; one daughter, Anne Marie and companion, Matthew. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; five brothers and three sisters.
With special love and thanks to Aunt Eva Yhard, who spent much time with her. She will be forever missed by any and all who knew her.

Chesley B. (Chuck) King

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Chesley (Chuck) King after a brief battle with cancer on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Annie Riddle and Chesley King.
He is survived by his wife, Delores, five sons, three daughters, 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild. He is also survived by three brothers, Percy, Sydney Mines, Charles (Shirley), New Hamburg, Ont., Earnest (Olive), Kitchener, Ont.; five sisters, Peggy Fifield, Lower Sackville, Josephine Aubry, Sydney Mines, Margaret (Don) Young, Sydney Mines, Elizabeth (Ron) Weaver, Dartmouth, Phyllis (Fred) Hillier, Georges River.
He was predeceased by one brother, Harry and two brothers in infancy.
Cremation has taken place.

passed away suddenly at the Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga, Ont. on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at the age of 87.
Beloved wife of John (Hookie) Lutes of Glace Bay, N.S. Dear mother of Kay Langley and her husband Ed, Mississauga and Charles Lutes, Glace Bay. Loving grandmother of nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters, Josie Yokuboski and Frances Kennedy and predeceased by sisters, Mary Tracey, Catherine MacDonald and brothers, Hugh, John, Gervise and Mike Fraser.

Died peacefully at home in Gananoque, Ont. on Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at 73 years of age, following a long battle of congestive heart failure.
Beloved husband of Delia (Gaul/Aucoin), both formerly of New Waterford, Cape Breton, N.S. Dearly loved father of Linda Dickson (Barry), Richard (Anna May), Johna Garrah and Chris (Candace). Will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Jeff (Amanda) Andrews, Daniel, Joel, Megan, Jennifer, Luke and Logan and great-granddaughter, Autumn.
Dear stepfather of Pat (Bernard), Joe, Robert (Julie), Michele (Stew) and predeceased by Don. Also step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Tarryn (Doug), Kristal, Kelsea, Jordon, Weston, Colton; step great-grandsons, Sammy and Matt Donald.
Also survived by one brother, Jeff, Stratford, Conn., U.S.A.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Lucille Campbell, father, Jeffery (Jack Leonard) and mother, Annie Gardiner and younger sister, Joan and baby, Raymond.
