Gerald Latimer Byers
June 2, 1930 – May 5, 2013
As Gerry's life had become progressively more difficult over the past many years, for all of us there's a bitter-sweet quality to this news. As I was no longer able to adequately look after him at home any longer, for the past month Gerry received excellent care in the Barrie IOOF. After slipping into a deep sleep for the past several days, he died peacefully on Sunday. He would have been eighty-three years old in June.
Gerry had made his wishes very clear, so a private cremation has taken place. We are planning a quiet memorial service later on this summer, when his ashes will be buried in our plot in the Stroud Cemetery.
If you wish to remember Gerry, what we'd both like most would be a contribution to the VON in his name. I will be forever grateful for their kindness to him during all the weeks and years that he was with them in the VON Day Care, where he happily spent his days in their friendly caring company. You can do this online,www.von.ca, or by mail to VON, 14 Cedar Pointe Dr., Unit 1501, Barrie, ON, L4N 5R7.
