Quackenbush, William (Bill) Frederick of Sarnia
With his family by his side, at Bluewater Health on Tuesday, December 24, 2013, WILLIAM (BILL) FREDERICK QUACKENBUSH, age 74 of Sarnia passed away. He was the loving husband of Beverly Quackenbush and dear father of William (Kim), Douglas (Jen) and Donald (Kim) and daughter Jen (Rusty), 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, brother of Celena, Doreen, Cathy, Fran and Debbie, brother in law of Carol and Wayne, Gord, and Diane. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Bill will be deeply missed by his little pet girl “Suzie Q”. He was predeceased by his parents William and Luella, sisters Donna and Marion, step-father Tom Scott, sister in law Kathy and Vickie, mother and father in law Gordon and Joanne and his grandson Tyler (1999). Bill (Big Daddy) Quackenbush), a.k.a., the Mayor of Paradise Valley Family Campground retired from Holmes Foundry after 27 years of service. Funeral services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Monday, December 30th at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be on Sunday between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Suddenly at her home in Burlington, on Monday January 26, 2015, at the age of 77, our loving mother and Nana Jo was called home to Heaven. Her children Laura Batey (Paul) and Phil (Justine) will cherish her memory knowing that she will live on in the hearts of the many friends she made throughout her life. She adored her grandsons Max and Alex and will be forever in their hearts. Josephine was the youngest of eight beautiful girls, and will be fondly remembered by her surviving sisters Lucy, Lena, Theresa, Veronica, and is now reunited with sisters Mary, Betty, and Agnes. Cremation has taken place. passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health on Friday, January 23, 2015, DOROTHY ELIZA ISABELLA NEAL (nee Taylor). of Sarnia. Predeceased by her loving husband Allan Neal (1994). Cherished mother of Bonnie Arbour (Don), William Neal Ph.D. of Los Angeles (Michele), Janet Stewart (John), and Laurie Simpson, all of Sarnia. Will be dearly missed by her nine grandchildren – Paula (Steve), Michelle (Trevor), Heather (Zvonimir), Scott, Jason (Ubay), Allasan (Mike), Alaina (Johan), Christopher, Alysia (Matt); and five great grandchildren + one more on the way. Dorothy was a registered nurse and a graduate of Victoria Hospital in London. She was an Elder at Laurel – Lea St. Matthews Presbyterian Church, Past Provincial Board Director of the Women’s Institute, Past President of Hamilton and London Synodical W.M.S. of the Presbyterian Church and was very active in the Sarnia Presbyterial. Dorothy was also a member of Sarnia Chapter # 6 O.E.S., a member of the Sarnia Humane Society and the Sarnia Horticultural Society. Dorothy was a committed volunteer at Inn of the Good Shepherd and served as nurse at Camp Kintail for many years. She was honoured by the Sertoma Club of Sarnia as Woman of the Year in 1972 and later named to Mayor Mike Bradley’s honour list. Resting at the D. J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTRE where friends visited with the family on Sunday afternoon and evening from the hours of 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held on Tuesday January 27th at 1:00 p.m. at Laurel – Lea St. Matthews Presbyterian Church. Interment at Bear Creek Cemetery in Brigden. PORTER, Mary Eleanor of London
In the loving care of the V.O.N. palliative team and her family, and after a gallant struggle with Parkinson’s and Dementia, in London, on January 24th, Mary Eleanor (Dickison, Parfitt) Porter in her 85th year. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth Porter (1998). Loving mother of Ben Parfitt and his wife Alicia Priest of Victoria, B.C., Gillian “Jill” Channer (Parfitt) and her husband William Allen of Port Stanley, and step-mother of Paige Cantle and her husband Ted, Lee Porter, Terry Porter, Bart Porter and his wife Donna, all of London. Proud grandmother of Charlotte Priest, Rebecca Channer, Grace and Gloria Cantle, Brittany and Sean Coughlin, Jade and Maxwell Porter. Mary was born in Arkona, Ontario where she spent her first nine years – as the Dickisons owned and operated a wool mill. Mary’s family was destitute after the mill burned down; they moved to London where her father began a new career with Investors of Canada. Mary was able to attend the University of Western Ontario thanks to the generous support of a distant relative. In 1953, she graduated from the Honours Business Administration programme, one of only four women that year. Mary proudly earned the Gold Medal for highest academic achievement in her graduating year. Upon graduating, Mary moved to Toronto and worked in the marketing department of Simpsons. Her mother became ill and Mary moved back to London and continued her career with Simpsons until the late 1950s when she obtained her teachers’ qualifications. Also in the late fifties, Mary married John and started her family. The family moved to Kitchener for a few years. Settling back in London, Mary worked briefly at the London Free Press. Later, she taught at both Beal and Wheable secondary schools. “Mrs. Parfitt” was highly regarded by her students and she devoted herself to her profession, earning a provincial award for outstanding business teacher from the Ontario Business Education Association (1977). In 1981, Mary married Ken and started a new chapter in her life which included travel, retirement in 1985, more teaching (part-time at Fanshawe College), grandchildren, more time for golf and tennis (an active member of Huff and Puff), and a good deal of volunteer work. One of her most cherished activities was singing in the choir at Colborne Street United Church, where she was an active committee member and congregant for over 40 years. Mary also devoted herself to sharing her great love of music, and delivering various seasonal programs to residents in nursing care homes. Friends will be received by the family from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London, where the funeral service will be conducted in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London.
