SCOWCROFT, Duncan Gordon -

On Friday, June 18th, we lost a great Man, Husband, Father and Grandfather. After a very short but stoic fight with stomach cancer, Duncan passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre.

He felt very blessed and will be forever missed by his best friend and wife, Ali (Alison) of nearly 38 years, and his Angels, Daughters Andrea & Meighan, His son-in-laws (sons to Duncan), Jamie Alboim and Mark Venditti and his special gifts, his grandchildren, Meighan Alboim, George Alboim and Jack Venditti. Duncan was born in Chatham, New Brunswick on October 20th, 1949 and moved to Montreal in the early 1950’s. He spent his formative years in Senneville, attending MacDonald Elementary and High School and then graduated from Loyola in 1971. He then moved to Ontario, where he built his career in Sales and established his roots in Markham. The most important thing in life to Duncan was his family.

His favourite times were when he had all of his family with him, including the past winter when he realized his dream of taking all of them to Disney World. Duncan always said that his legacy was his kids and grandkids and that he would forever live on through them.

Duncan always used to say that he never measured a man by the size of his bank account, but by the love of his family and he considered himself a very rich man. He always used to tell his girls, “we may not be rich, but we’re rich in love.”

In 2006, Duncan and Ali moved to Ballantrae. He used to call it his little piece of heaven and he enjoyed many evenings sitting on his back deck enjoying his view while sipping martinis with friends.

Duncan is predeceased by his father Gordon C. Scowcroft and is survived by his Mother Patricia Ritchie (Scowcroft). Duncan was also much loved by his sisters, Gail Toth (John), Barbara Twaits (Wayne), Maggie Hillmer, his brother Peter Scowcroft (Sylvia) and his brother-in-law Peter Henderson (Cathie) He was the loving “Uncle Dunc” to his many nieces and nephews, and their children. A very special thank you to all of the staff at Southlake, especially the Doctors and Nurses who let him lead his final days comfortably and with dignity.

A Celebration of Duncan’s life on Wednesday June 23rd, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. (905) 852 – 3073.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southlake Cancer Centre.
