ALEXANDER, Walter A.
(Veteran W.W.II, serving in the RCAF Band, 30 year employee of Oshawa PUC and long time cottager at Buckhorn Lake)
Passed away peacefully at Hillsdale Terraces on Saturday, September 30th, 2006. Walter, beloved husband of Joyce (neé Salter). Dear father of David (Ellen), Doug (Helen) and Susan (Peter). Cherished Gramps of Kristin, Matt, Ben, Ian, Eric, Kayleigh, Brian and Tim. A special thank you to the staff on the 2nd floor - Sugartrail, at Hillsdale Terraces. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE, "Thornton Chapel", 847 King St. West (905-721-1234) for visitation on Saturday, October 14th from 12 Noon until time of Service in the Chapel at 1:00 P.M. Interment of Cremated Remains to follow at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Northminster United Church would be appreciated.

BURKE, Carol
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Penetanguishene General Hospital in her 59th year. Mrs. Carol Burke of Port McNicholl. Beloved wife of Eric Burke. Loving mother of Rhonda Burke and DeAnne Thompson (Greg). She will be sadly missed by her 4 grandchildren, 7 brothers and father Les. At Carol's request a memorial service will be held at Mount Lawn Chapel, Whitby on Thursday, October 5, at 1:00 p.m. and at the R.C.L. Br. 523 Victoria Harbour on Saturday, October 7, at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated and can be made at the Nicholls Funeral Home, Midland.

HAMMERS, Albertus (Bert)
Suddenly at home on September 30, 2006 in his 75th year. Beloved husband of Lillian (neé Visser). Loving father of Jeff Hammers and his wife, Valerie and Amanda and her husband Dave Leeming. Very proud grandfather of Aaron Hammers, Kyla Hammers and Jackson Leeming. Sadly missed by his brother, Al Hammers and his sisters, Jane Kiezebrink, Reika Wemekamp, Dini DeVries and Henny Bolton. Predeceased by his brothers, Henry Hammers, Gerrit Hammers and sisters, Fenna VandenHeuval and Joanne Brickel. Brother-in-law of Herb Visser, John Visser Alice Sintniklaas, Annie VanStaveren, Helen Loyst and Mike Visser. Predeceased by sister-in-law Vicki Hardy. Friends were received at the W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby 905-668-3410 on Monday, October 2, 2006 from 7 to 9 pm. A service to celebrate Mr. Hammers life was held on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at 1pm at the Emmanuel Reformed Church 401 Rossland Road West. A special thank you to pastor Don Waterhouse and his wife Deborah.

HEMPEN, Marian (Ria) Petronella (neé Knijnenburg)
Passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 30, 2006, in her 77th year. Beloved wife of the late Herman Hendrik Hempen (1993). Loving mother of Christine and her husband Craig, Wilma and her partner Greg, George and his wife Jill, Theresa and her partner Jeff, Pamela and her husband Reg, and Ramona and her husband Marco. Loving Oma of Matthew, Alexander, Jennifer, William, Daniel, Lucas, Kyle, Taylor, Rhys, Morgan, Melissa, Megan, Wilson, Robert, Margaret, Mark, Jeff, Laura, Mark, Craig and his wife, Sarah and beloved "Great" Oma to Cole. She will be dearly missed by John and Vince. Predeceased by brothers, Cees and Nico in Holland. Survived by sisters, Rien, Wilma, Nel, Cornelea, Rita, Hanny, Tiny, Dori, Coby, Bep and brother Nick. Will be missed by her many relatives in Canada, U.S.A. and Holland. A "special" Oma to so many. Lovingly remembered by Gail and so many dear friends. Special thanks to the staff at the Blue Heron Casino, emergency personnel, Dr. Cull, nurse Janet and the staff at Lakeridge Health Port Perry. A Mass to celebrate Marian's life will be held at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church (70 Toronto Street North, Uxbridge) on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Suddenly, at home in Pickering, on Saturday, September 30, 2006, in his 55th year. Timothy Hewie, husband of Deborrah and father of Kayla and Blake. Son of the late Fred (Tim) and Thelma Hewie. Brother of Ron (Kathy) and Lorne Hewie (Lynne Duncan). Should family and friends so desire, donations to the Charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

OWEN, James 'Jimmy' Edward
(Served in the RCAF, Armourment and Munition, Retiree of Chrysler Canada)
Passed away peacefully, at his residence in Oshawa, on September 30, 2006, at the age of 72. Beloved son of the late Herbert and Mary Owen (Coyle). Loving father of Kathy (Randy) Lytle of Bowmanville, Ron (Joan) Owen and Tina (Chris) Suddard of Oshawa. Survived by brother Herb (Yvette) Owen of Leamington, ON, brother Murray (Charlotte) Owen of Whitby, sister Jean Greening of Oshawa, sister Bonnie (Mac) McKay of Kingsville, ON, brother Bill Owen of Oshawa, and sister Lillian (Bill) Quait of Scarborough. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Kristin, Kimberly, Angela and Jaime and great-grandsons Jason and Hayden. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, his extended family and many friends. A private family gathering will take place at McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) with cremation to follow. Donations in memory of Jimmy to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

COREY, Arleen Frances Power
Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Friday, September 29, 2006, at the age of 48. Arleen Frances Power Corey, beloved wife and best friend of Paul. Loving mother of Kathleen, Sian and Kevin. Daughter of the late Arthur and Kathleen Power of Stephenville, Newfoundland. Fondly remembered by sisters and brothers Clarissa (Paul) MacNeil, Theresa (Randy) Collins, Keith (Gloria) Power, Frank Power (Glen Hynes), and Gerald (Linda) Power. Predeceased by brother Arthur Junior. Lovingly remembered by Paul's parents, Joseph and Lorraine Corey. Cherished sister-in-law of Laverna Gaudon, Anne Marie Corey, and Cathy and Bob White. Dearest aunt of Leah, Liam, Trevor and Quentin Power; Neil MacNeil; Blake and Leah Gaudet; Tyrel, Orrin, Tia Lynn and Kayla Power; Ashley and Kyle Power; and Lianne and David White. We have been truly blessed by Arleen's passion for living and love. We will all miss Arleen's kindness and sense of humour. We seem to give them back to you, O God, You who gave them to us, Yet as you did not lose them in giving, So do we not lose them by their return. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Lakeridge Health Oshawa, in particular the nurses and doctors of the Oncology Department, for their loving care of Arleen through her illness. Peacefully, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on September 29, 2006, in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Adriana. Loving father of Antoinetta (Chris Vorstenbosch), Henrietta (Mike Gradwell), and Michael-John (Patricia). Cherished grandfather of Michael, Martin, Andrea, Mathew and Justin. Martin will be sadly missed by his brother, sisters, and extended family in the Netherlands. DURANT, Arlie (neé Cole)
Peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2006 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville in her 77th year. Arlie, beloved wife of Bill Durant. Loving mother of James Rand, Karen Marr, and Billie Durant and his wife, Anita of Ponty Pool. Lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Cliff Cole of Alberta, and Ruth Armstrong of Wellington, ON. Special thanks to Pat for the loving care Arlie received while she was at home, and to Dr. Mike Ward at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville. Arlie will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her loving family and many dear friends. A graveside service will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Albert on Thursday, October 5th at 11am. A reception will follow the interment. Loving father of Barb Campin, Elaine and her husband Rudy Duncan, and Mary and her husband Dennis Flintoff. Dear brother of Joe, Peter and the late Wanda. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Rhonda, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Dale, Richard, Daryl and Nikki and 4 great- grandchildren. After a short illness, at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa, on Friday, September 29th, 2006, Wincenty Szemiot at 82 years of age. Beloved husband of Leona (neé Kuziomko). Dear father of Janine and her husband Harry Kruk of Burlington, Henry and his wife Shelley of Bowmanville and Irena and her husband Tony Budkowski of Mitchell's Corners. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren; Stephanie, Lisa (Steve), Julie, Lucas, Katelyn, Sandy and by his great-granddaughter Kristina. Dear brother of Mary Bucholski (Ludwig) of Whitby and the late Bronislaw Szemiot. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, with Mass of Christian Burial in St. Hedwig's Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at 10 a.m. Interment Oshawa Union Cemetery. Passed away peacefully in her sleep at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Thursday, September 28th, 2006. Pearl at 64 years of age. Beloved mother of Jim and his wife Diane, Glen and his fiancée Venus, Tracey and Tina and her fiancé Tom. Predeceased by her daughter Sherry. She will be sadly missed by her 10 grandchildren and her 1 great grandchild. Dear sister of Judy, Fanny, Joyce, Pauline, Benny and Johnny.
