ARBOUR, Kelly
Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer, on August 21st, 2006. Loving husband of Jane. Devoted father of Tyler, Riley, Caitlin, Rachele and Travis. Beloved son of Clyde and Charlene. Dear brother of Cindy (Jerry), Karen (Brad), Tracey (Chris) and Jodi. Cherished grandson of Fred and Olga Swarbrick. Kelly will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Anita Hartwig for all her support. A celebration of Kelly's life will be held on Thursday, August 24th, 2006 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234). The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 P.M. "Forever in our hearts"

DAVIS, GORDON
Peacefully, surrounded by his family at home on Monday, August 21st, 2006. Gordon Russell Davis in his 71st year. Beloved husband of Mary LaFlamme. Dear father of Dawn Mitchell, Russell Davis and Karen LaFlamme. Grandfather of Darryl, Kylie, Christopher and Jessica. Missed by his sister, Lennora McKinnon and brother, Kenneth Hurford and his wife, Bev. Fondly remembered by his nieces, Tyra and Amanda and nephew, Mark. Many thanks to all our friends, the Doctors and Staff at Lakeridge Health Corp.- Oshawa (Oncology Dept.), for their kindness and support during this time. Rested at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice L1E 2R7 (905-432-8484). A private family service was held. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to Durham Regional Cancer Centre.

TWINE, Olga
Peacefully at Fosterbrooke Nursing Home in Newcastle, on Monday, August 21, 2006, at the age of 86. Olga was predeceased in 2003 by her husband, Tom of more than 64 years. Loving mother of Terry and his wife, Beverly. Baba will be dearly missed by her grandsons, Gregory (Nicole) and James, and her great-granddaughter, Victoria, and great-grandson, Evan. No visitation; instead, we ask Olga's friends and extended family to each remember and celebrate privately, the person who was Olga. The immediate family will hold a private memorial service following cremation, at Thornton Cemetery. In memory of Olga, donations to the Leukemia Research Fund would be gratefully appreciated and may be made through OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE "Thornton Chapel", 847 King St. West, (905-721-1234).

TURNER, Adha (nee Cecchettini)
1924-2006
On August 21st, 2006 in her 83rd year. Adha (Lorna) Turner passed away peacefully at Oshawa General Hospital. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Garfield; she was loved by her daughter, Cheryl Daniela, son, Dr. Tyrone Silvio (Cynthia), granddaughters, Sarah, Hannah and Theodora and grandson, Adrian. Born in Oriolo Romano, Italy, her mother, Francesca (nee Corsalini) and baby sister, Norma, died of diphtheria when she was three years old. Her father, Valentino, married again, Concetta (nee Pennello) and she grew up in a loving family with sisters, Norma and Elsa (predeceased) and brothers, Giovanni and Franco (predeceased) in Viterbo, just north of Rome. During WWII, in Rome, she met Garfield (RAF) and followed him to Derby (U.K.), in 1945. After having Tyrone and Cheryl, acquiring many friends and new relatives, along with a unique English accent which combined Roman and British Midland Dialects, she emigrated to Canada, in 1957, following her friends, Freda and Wilf Holyoake. She approached life as an immigrant and a survivor, loving, family oriented and always practical. After Garfield died in 1994, she became the devoted companion of Dr. Herbert Chang, and came to know his loving son, Dr. Walter Chang, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, and Herbert's large extended family. She was a fighter to the end, stating 'I survived the war so I can beat this.' Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada in memory of Adha.

BUGDEN, Barbara Jean (nee Harrison)
Age 46 years.
Peacefully with her family by her side At Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, on Sunday, August 20th 2006. Beloved wife of Jeff. Loving mother of Jillian & Kelli. Predeceased by her parents, Jean & Trevor Harrison. Dear sister of Wayne & Chris Harrison, Julie & Al McMullen, Lynn & Walter Wereszczyski. Daughter-in-law of Dennis & Phyllis Bugden, sister-in-law of Brad & Trish Bugden & Denise & Andrew McKinnon. She will be sadly missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, many friends & her 4-legged friend, Tana. Memorial visitation will be held at THE NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. N., Bowmanville, on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Memorial Service will be held in our Chapel on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006 at 10 am. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

KOZAK, Kornel
In Oshawa, on Sunday, August 20th 2006, in his 75th year. Predeceased by his wife, Lidia. Loving father of Steve (Diane), Olga, Don (Debbie) and Mark (Barb). Dear brother of Susan (Ed) and Walter (Oksana). Predeceased by his brother, Richard. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Julia (Jason), Linda, Kasia, Boston, Ania, Meagan, Mandy and Andrew. He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephew. Resting at The ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, with Mass of Christian Burial in St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church, 411 Olive Avenue, on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery. Prayers in the chapel on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association would be appreciated. Visitation, 7- 9 p.m. Tuesday.

LUCAS, Rosaleen
Passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2006, at the Rouge Valley Health System, Ajax, in her 81st year. Loving wife of the late Tony Lucas. Cherished mother of Anna (Art Cheater), Tony (Ruth), Eveline (David Ginn), Paula Lucas, and Pat and Hester Nevin. Loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Beloved sister of Eveline Nevin and the late Josephine, Jack and Anna. Dear aunt of Anna Linley, Rosemary, Jacqueline, Eveline and the late Brian Nevin. Rosaleen will also be sadly missed by her many family members and friends in Northern Ireland, as well as here in Canada. Funeral Mass at St. Francis de Sales Church (1001 Ravenscroft Rd., Ajax) on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Should family and friends so desire, donations to the Sunnybrook Critical Care Unit, or the Hospital for Sick Children would be greatly appreciated.

COOPER, Vicki Patricia
Peacefully, after a short battle with cancer, on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry, at age 44. Vicki (nee Bigglestone) of Uxbridge, loving mother of Bobby Cooper. Loved daughter of Jack and Doris Bigglestone of Uxbridge. Dear sister of Brian Bigglestone of Manilla, Suzie and her husband, Scott Broad of Toronto, and Bradley Bigglestone and his wife, Giselle of Aurora. Dear aunt of Justin and Erica. The Family of Vicki Cooper will receive friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 'McDermott-Panabaker Chapel', 216 Queen Street, in Port Perry (905-985-2171), on Thursday, August 24th from 10 - 11 a.m. A Service to celebrate her life will be held in the Chapel at 11 a.m. with Reverend Elaine Sveet officiating. If desired, memorial donations may be made by cheque to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation or Precious Minds.

DWERNYCHUK, Alec (Ilko)
Peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at his home in Oshawa, at the age of 85. Alec will be deeply missed and very much loved by his sons Alan and Edward Dwernychuk. He was the last surviving of the 8 children, born to late Vera and Alec Dwernychuk. Alec will be missed and remembered by Rose Sanuk. He was a proud WWII veteran who was a translator during the war and immigrated to Canada, in the early 1950's. Friends may call at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, on Wednesday, August 23rd from 2-4pm and 7- 9pm. Panachyda will be held at 7pm. Funeral service at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Bloor and Ritson) on Thursday, August 24th at 10am. Interment, St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Oshawa. Memorial donations to the Kidney Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.

FLINTOFF, Lyra (Nee: Freeman)
At her home in Bowmanville, on Saturday, August 19, 2006 in her 87th year. Lyra, beloved wife of the late Morley Flintoff. Dear mother of Jean Arnold and her husband, Syd of Newtonville, Marilyn Gordon and her husband, Gary (Gus) of Oshawa, Barbara Fogal of Oshawa and the late Grant survived by his wife, Lynda of Bowmanville. Loved grandmother of 8 Grandchildren and 7 Great-grandchildren. Loving sister of Marion Allin and her husband, Ross of Newcastle, and the late May Pickard and Thelma Gilbank. Friends may pay their respects at the MORRIS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4 Division St., Bowmanville, on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral service in the MORRIS CHAPEL on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 11 a.m. Interment, Zion Cemetery. GOGUEN, Norman Paul (Stormin' Norman)
Peacefully, on Saturday, August 19, 2006 in his 61st year. Loving father of Yvel, Teddy and Michelle. Cherished grandfather to Trystan and Tayler. Survived by his brother, Ronald and his cousin, Viola and Robert. Norman is predeceased by his parents, Eva Arsenault and Henry Joseph Goguen and by his best friend, Butch. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Tom just for being with Norman and to Cornerstone for being his second family and for providing a Service of Remembrance. In accordance with Norman's wishes, cremation has taken place. Donations may be directed to Cornerstone (133 Simcoe St. S., Oshawa, ON, L1H 4G8, 905-433-2363).

JOHNS, Lorna Ruth (Wyatt)
February 25, 1920 - August 19, 2006
In the early hours of Saturday, August 19, Lorna Johns passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. True to her strong character, she had battled illness for the past few months but succumbed ultimately to a will even stronger than her own. Born in Brixham, England, Lorna was a "War Bride"; the wife of the late William Douglas Johns, and the mother of six children including Yvonne, Adrienne (Brian Brady), Ian (Gloria), Garth (Deborah), Miriam (Herb Terry), and Wyatt (Monica). She was the loved Grandmother of 20 and the Great Grandmother of 12. One of a family of seven, Lorna is survived by her sister, Margaret Soffe in Brixham, England, brother, Dave in Nakusp, British Columbia, and sister-in-law, Meta Johns in Calgary, Alberta. Thanks are extended to the staff of LHO for their compassionate care of Lorna and her family as we struggled through the final phase of Mom's life. Special thanks go to the nurses of 3F including Helen G., Shirley, Kathy, Jody, Janice, Lisa, Lynn, physiotherapist Carol and others we may have forgotten. Thanks to Drs. Pedretti, Weir and Ginsberg, and Chaplain Michael Bishop for their support. Friends may call at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Wednesday, August 23rd from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A celebration of Lorna's life will be held on Thursday, August 24th at 1pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Cremation and interment at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens, Whitby. Lorna would appreciate any memorial donations to be made to the Oshawa Senior Citizen's Centre or Ovarian Cancer Research or the Charity of choice.
