Passed away after a lengthy illness on June 23, 2009. He was born December 9, 1930 in Roelofarendsveen, the Netherlands. John is survived by his loving wife Ann (Johanna), son Jake (Valerie), daughter Irene (Mike Kiers) and granddaughters Natalie and Elisha Kiers. He is also survived by his sisters Helen Vandermeer, Nel Jawny, Wilma (John) Kryger, Nancy Mazzocchi, Sophie (John) Hroncich, brother Frank (Linda), sister in-law Irene deBruyn and many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his brother Gerard and sister Catrina. John retired from the Oshawa Catholic School Board in 1995. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. With visitation on Thursday, June 25 from 2 pm-4 pm and 7 pm-9 pm with prayers at 2 pm.
