SEMPLE, Brandon Scott John
(1982 - 2009)
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of Brandon at the age of 27 on September 12th, 2009. Beloved son of Cheryl (Steve) Carmichael of Oshawa and Scott (Virginia) Semple of Delta. Loving brother to Kyle and Kailey Carmichael of Oshawa and Adam, Scott, Vanessa and Chasen Semple of Delta. Dearest and cherished best friend and the love of his life Jaime Pollock. Fondly remembered by his grandparents Eileen Semple and Alfred Olley, and by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends. Brandon will be remembered mostly for his loving sense of humour and infectious laugh that will live in our hearts forever. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) for visitation on Tuesday, September 15th from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 P.M. Funeral Service will take place in the Chapel on Wednesday, September 16th at 11:00 A.M. Followed by Cremation.

THOMAS, Sceburn Gladys
At Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Saturday, September 12th, 2009 she passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. Sceburn Gladys Thomas in her 100th year. Predeceased by her companion George (1976). Loving mother to her son Raymond and daughter Ruth (Jim) and her late son Don (1985). Dear grandmother to Donna, Denise, Kim, Kathy, Debbie and Carolyn. Sadly missed by many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her sisters Florence, Della, Edith and her brothers Wilford, Eldon, Howard, Kenneth and Irvin. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, on Wednesday, September 16th from 12 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens, Whitby. Memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

BYAM, Ross Wilbert
Surrounded by his family Ross passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, September 11, 2009 in his 73rd year. Beloved husband of Margaret for over 50 years. Loving father of Tom (Laurie), Debbie (Fern) Boucher, Tammy (Jon) Bessey, Darlene (Bud) Edwards, and Mike. Grandfather of Crystal (Paul), Rochelle, Carlo Anthony, and Jessica. Great grandfather of Wyatt and Desiree. Survived by his sister Mary (Bob) Hartrick. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Southlake Regional Health Centre, Cancer Clinic would be appreciated by the family.

BLAND, Margaret Ethel
After a lengthy illness on Friday, September 11th, 2009 in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Bland. Dear mother of Michael, Peter, and the late Paul. The family will receive friends at the W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas St. East, Whitby Ontario (905) 668-3410 on Monday, September 14th 2009 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Service in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, September 15th 2009 at 2 pm. Cremation to follow. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation.

BURKITT, Eileen (nee Carvin)
1929-2009
With sadness, we announce the passing of Eileen Burkitt on September 11, 2009 in her 80th year. Wife of the late John (1983). Loving and proud mother of John (Carolyn), Dave (Lydia), Jim (Lori) and Jennifer (Jae). Dearest Grammy to Toby (Stephanie), Celeste (Greg), Rhiannon, Laura, James, Daulton, Fynn and Sidney; and Great Grammy to Ashtyn, Leigh, Elyse and Zachary. Sadly missed by her nieces, nephews and all of her family and friends in Liverpool. A little girl from Bootle who spent her days playing on Penny Lane, she immigrated to Canada as a 19 year old war bride and spent many years living in Toronto. The matriarch in Canada, Eileen was a special soul and will be remembered for her strong faith, wisdom, belief in the arts, sense of humour and most importantly her devotion to her family. Visitation will be held at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, ON, on Tuesday, September 15th from 7-9 p.m. A Funeral service will be held at St. Gertrude's Church, 690 King Street East, Oshawa, ON, on Wednesday, September 16th at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens in Whitby where she will be reunited with her husband John. In kindness, donations to the Fatima Centre (www.fatima.org) would be appreciated by the family.

BUTT, Douglas
(Captain Retired, Salvation Army)
Promoted to glory on Friday, September 11th, 2009 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa surrounded by his loving family. Devoted and beloved husband of Nellie. Loving father of Don (Cheryl), Fred (Sharon), Wayne (Kelly) and Tammy (Jason). Dear 'Poppy' of Pamela, Joshua, Michelle, Darren, Benjamin, Jessica, Bria, Blaise, Andrea and Aaron, and great-grandfather of Sofia, Tessa and Riley. Visitation was held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Sunday, September 13th from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 P.M. Funeral Service was held at The Salvation Army Whitby Community Church on Monday, September 14th at 1:00 P.M. Interment followed at GROVESIDE CEMETERY in Whitby.

FOSTER, Clary (Clarence)
A much loved old fellor has completed his final voyage. Surrounded by his caring family, Clary passed peacefully on September 11, 2009 at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa after almost 96 years. He will be reunited with the love of his life - Elizabeth (Beth, 2007) with whom he was married for over 73 years. Since her passing this void has been lovingly filled by Carrie Genno, his most trusted and appreciated 'senior's companion'. Clary is the father of Elizabeth (Betty), Marie (2003), Catherine (Rene) and Bob, Steve (Julie), Bunny (1995), and Janet (Romeo). He was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren who adored and were inspired by him. He loved his music and dancing but mostly his family who are eternally grateful to him for his sense of humour and generosity of spirit and deed. His constant good nature and mischievous smile will be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank those staff members at Hillsdale who gave him the attention and care he needed. Petty Officer Clary Foster, (Toby to his shipmates) served in the Merchant Navy, DEMS and the Canadian Navy from 1937 until 1946. His post-war career included a 25 year career with the security department of Ontario Hydro. Donations, if desired, can be made to a Charity of your choice.

HALLETT, Terry James
At the Lakeridge Health Corporation, Bowmanville, Ontario, on Friday, September 11th, 2009. Terry Hallett, husband of the late Dianne, was in his 67th year. Loved father of Douglas (Anne), and loving grandfather of Larix. Dear brother of Tom, Douglas (April), Brian (Marlene), Wayne (Pat) and predeceased by his brother Bob and his sister Joyce. Long time friend of Grace Brendzan and Sharon Butler. Fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, friends and golf buddies. A celebration of Terry's life was held at the Oshawa Golf Club, Oshawa, Ontario, on Monday, September 14th. Memorial Donations to the Durham Lung Association would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice, ON L1E 2R7 (905-432-8484).

BALSDON, Kenneth Murray (Ken)
Peacefully at the Village Retirement Centre on September 10, 2009. Ken, in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Victoria (Plitz). Loving father of Murray (Karen) and Douglas (Phyllis). Dear grandfather of Ryan (Shauna), Lisa (Jason) and Aimee (Chris). Great-grandfather of Conor and Sean. Loving son of the late Clare and Marie Balsdon. Dear brother of Keith and his wife Mary and the late Ver non. Brother- in-law of Katherine Balsdon. Lovingly remembered by his many family and friends, nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at Pickering Village United Church, 300 Church St. N. (Pickering Village) Ajax on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

CHURCH, Bruce Harry
August 16, 1932 - September 10, 2009
Passed peacefully at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa. Former principal is survived by June Church and their daughters Deborah Jestin, and Karen Church and their sons Kevin and Steven Church, and four grandchildren - Andrew, Victoria, and Thomas Jestin, and Bryson Church. Please join family for a Celebration of Life Monday, September 21 at 3 p.m. followed by reception Cullen Gardens, 380 Taunton Road East, Whitby, ON.
