DUGAN, Woneta Madeline
In loving memory of Woneta Madeline Dugan, born September 16, 1954, who passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. Woneta leaves behind 3 children, Connie (Edwin), Gerald (Angie), and Amanda (Howard). Sadly missed by grandchildren, Michael, Shianne, Keegan, Loniyea, Shareff, Nathan, Zack, Jonah, Jessie, Nathan, Tanisha, Tatyana, Keyshawn, Braylon, and Payton. Woneta will be missed by her former husband, James Dugan and her sister, Kathy Stone and her 3 nieces. Rest in Peace Mom and Grandma we love you. Friends may call at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, on Thursday, September 17 from 10am. Memorial Service in the chapel of the funeral home at 11am.

ELLIOTT, Samuel Edward

Suddenly on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in his 88th year. Sam is predeceased by his wives Mary Rita Goodine and Laura Ann Smith-Goodine. Loved father of Barbara and her husband Dave Hickey. Loved Grandpa of Jeffrey and Jennifer Hickey. Brother-in-law to Angie Smith of Plaster Rock, New Brunswick. Survived by his step children Kim Smith (Dave), Randall Smith, Pamela Smith, Kevin Smith (Cindy), and Michael Smith. Sam was a member of the Knights of Columbus - St. Gregory's Council. Friends may call at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, on Thursday, September 10th from 7-9pm. Prayers at 7:30pm. Funeral Mass on Friday, September 11th at 10am at St Gregory the Great Catholic Church (Simcoe and Adelaide). Interment Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Whitby. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the RS McLaughlin Cancer Centre would be greatly appreciated by the family.

FERNS, Raymond
September 17th 1941 - September 9th 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving partner and father. He is survived by his partner, Maureen, his daughter, Jennifer, Son-in-Law, Ian Fohr and his son, Robin. Ray will also be missed by his mother, Peg Cooke, brothers, Derek and Terry and their families in England and extended family in Ireland, Australia, and Canada. Ray enjoyed life with those closest to him. He left us far too soon. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Ray's life to be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 15th 2009 at the W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby, (905) 668 - 3410. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer society would be greatly appreciated by his family.

JONES, Lorne Joseph
After a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at his home, at age 67. Lorne Jones of Chalk Lake, beloved husband of Doreen (nee Harnden). Loved father of Kevin Jones and his wife Beth of Chalk Lake, Sherri and her husband Rick Grieveson of Port Perry, Brian Jones of Uxbridge, Mike Jones and his wife Sue of Baysville, Tracie and her husband Harvey Van der ligt of Uxbridge. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, his great-grandchild, his brothers and sisters and their families. The family of Lorne Jones will receive friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, "McDermott-Panabaker Chapel", 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) on Friday, September 11th from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. A Service to celebrate his life will be held in the Chapel at 2:30 p.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made by cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society.

OSMOND, Thomas William 'Bill'
Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Wednesday, September 9th, 2009, in his 86 year. Dearly beloved husband of Dora of 63 years. Loving father of Bruce (late Sadie), Bill (Joyce), Roy, Wanda, and the late Sandra. Dear father-in-law of Lewis Wiseman. Cherished grandfather of Lisa, Corinne, Kim, Tammy, Donny, Lewie, Darryl, Amanda, Lindsey, Justin, Michael, Kelsey and great-grandfather of 14. Sadly missed brother of Doris Osmond and predeceased by sisters Annie, Jessie, Julie, Jane, Sunshine, Rowena, Velma and brothers Raymond, Wilmore and Cyril. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) for visitation on Sunday, September 13th from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday, September 14th at 11:00 A.M. Followed by interment at Thornton Cemetery. SMITH, Lynda Anne (nee Hindman)
Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on September 9th 2009, in her 69th year. Beloved mother of Sandy and Brian (Mary). Loving grandmother of Braeden. Dear sister of Elizabeth and her husband David Bedford, Susan and her husband Paul Kirk and Captain George (Skip) Hindman and his wife Karen. Beloved daughter of the late Howard and Ruth Hindman. Visitation will be held at the W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby, (905) 668 - 3410 on Saturday, September 12th 2009 at 12:00pm, followed by the funeral service at 1:00pm. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and would be greatly appreciated by her family.

BLAKE, Calvin Clair
Willful to the end, Cal passed peacefully, released from his battle with cancer and diabetes, at the Port Perry Community Hospital on Tuesday morning, September 8, 2009. Friends and family celebrated Calvin's life at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, on September 11, 2009. He was born June 23, 1928 in Haldimand Township, Northumberland County. Cal's parents were John Bartlett Blake and Jessie Marie Dawson. Surviving Calvin are his sisters Leila (Harry) Tresise and Margaret Buckley of Oshawa. Predeceasing him are his sisters Marion Blake, Donna Luke, Shirley Hill, Mildred Bruce and brother Murray Blake. His son Stuart Dawson Blake is fondly and forever remembered. He leaves behind his wife Miriam Renison-Blake. For more than 55 years Calvin celebrated marriage and life with the late Elizabeth Blake (nee Clement). Calvin lives on through his 5 children, 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren: Laurie (Walter) Senyk, Stephen (Gaynor) Blake, Graham (Mary) Blake, Leesa (Ian Jay) Blake, Leslie (Kevin Cirtwell) Bond. Calvin loved his life in Oshawa, maintaining strong and varied connections to his community throughout his life. He was employed early on at General Motors, followed by the London Life Insurance Company and later the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Calvin's dynamic personality contributed to his successful retail skills (Honest Cal's) and his passion for real estate investment. Cal also enjoyed an avid and active interest in municipal and regional politics. His charitable donations of choice are the Diabetes Association, the Alzheimer Society and the Salvation Army. Donations to the Charity of your choice will also be appreciated in Calvin's memory.

CHENIER, Oscar Edward 'Ted'
It is with great sadness that Ted's family announces his passing on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of the late Lucille Brooks. Father of Nadine Olafsen & her husband, David, Kathryn Chenier & her partner, Ken O'Connor, Allison Chenier & her husband, Bruce Rich, and Tracey Chenier & her husband, John Bakker. Grandfather of Robert & Daniel Olafsen, Amy & Frank Belbin, and Sarah & Adam Bakker. Born in Peterborough, Ontario in 1928, son of the late Albert Chenier & the late Ida Boucher. Brother of the late Doris Speakman and the late Cecile Heffernan. Survived by his sister Theresa Plaskitt & her husband Bob. Ted retired in 1988 after 32 years as a shareholder and Executive Vice President of Ruddy Electric Wholesale. Ted was a Past Director of the Oshawa Rotary Club, Past Director of Oshawa Golf Club, Past President of Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, Past Director of United Way Campaign, a member of the Oshawa Curling Club and a member of the Harvard Business School Club. Ted was a trustee of Campbell Children's School for 16 years. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa with Complete Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of St. Gregory the Great on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 10 a.m. with reception to follow. Private family burial at a later date. Memorial donations to the Oshawa Rotary Club would be appreciated. Visitation Friday 3 - 5 & 7 - 9 p.m.

HAZLEHURST, Vera May
Peacefully, on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in her 90th year. Vera (nee Thomas) was predeceased in 1987 by her much beloved husband of 45 years, Frank Hazlehurst. Loved mother of Gail Davison (the late Paul), Jan and Tom Lovelock, and Jeff and Beth Hazlehurst. Loving Grandma of Shannah Davison (Niall), Ryan Delaney (Lisa), Andrew Davison (Zoe), Heather Anderson (Greg), Alasdair Davison, Mark Delaney (Leanne), Laura Hazlehurst, and Neil Hazlehurst. Dear Great-Grandma of Hunter Delaney and Clarke Delaney. She will be missed by her brother Tom Thomas (Elaine) and family and her sister-in-law Mary McDonald and family. Predeceased by her beloved mother Rose "Chummy" Thomas. Vera will be missed by many friends and by her nieces and nephews, and remembered as a true lady whose kindness touched many lives. The family of Vera Hazlehurst will receive friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, - Panabaker Chapel', 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) on Friday, September 11th from 10 -- 11 a.m. A Service to celebrate her life will be held in the Chapel at 11 a.m. Private interment Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough. KOCAN, Katherine (nee Dranycki)
Peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in her 80th year. Katherine, beloved wife of the late Dmytro Kocan. Loved mother of Natalka and her husband Bohdan Kozy, and Lesia and her husband Petro Humennyj. Proud Grandmother of Markian Kozy. Predeceased by her sisters Mary and Eva. Katherine will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her loved family here and in Saskatchewan. A very special Thank You to all who provided compassionate home care over the past few years.
