John was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Luella and his stepmother Florence, his 3 brothers, Barney, Clinton and Kenneth and his 2 sisters Margaret and Gladys. McLAUGHLIN, John D.
Peacefully at Lakeridge Health - Oshawa on February 26th, 2007 at the age of 72. Beloved father of Sonja (Stephen), Gerald (Pam) and Martha (Stephen). Loving grandfather (Popop) to Ross, John, Glen, Alexis and Serena. Dear brother of Gale, Grand Manan, N.B. Cousin of Sally Foster, Friendship, Maine and Elaine Maker, Grand Manan. John will be missed by his special friend Carmel Lauzon. He is also survived by his ex-wife Myrna McLaughlin. John suffered a stroke in 2005 which weakened his body but not his mind, nor his resolve to live. Born August 10, 1934 on Grand Manan Island, N.B., he was the son of Gerald and Doris (Wilcox) McLaughlin. John graduated from Dalhousie University (B.Comm.) and moved to Oshawa in 1955. He worked in the accounting department of General Motors for 5 years and then completed a LLB at Queen's in 1963. He was most recently employed at Millwork Home Building Centre, Pickering. He served his community well as both City Councillor and Durham Regional Councillor for ten years. John was on the Oshawa Board of Control and served on many committees including Parks and Property, Planning and Development and Public Works. A member of the Board of Governors of Durham College, he also sat on the Boards of the Oshawa Senior Citizen's Centre, the Oshawa Public Library and the Oshawa Historical Society. He was a founding member of the board which established Cheshire Home for the disabled. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Oshawa and was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Oshawa. John was an athlete and avid sports fan. At Dalhousie University he was the leading scorer and Captain of the men's basketball team. Passions were golf and baseball, especially his beloved Boston Red Sox. Peacefully following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family, at Lakeridge Health-Whitby on Tuesday, February 27th, 2007, in her 80th year. Beloved wife of Donald W. McQuay. Peacefully after a lengthy illness at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Sunday, February 25, in his 90th year. He started his career as an army doctor overseas, came back to serve as a country doctor in Rosthern, Sask., was the former Chief of Staff at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital, and retired as a family physician in private practice. He was always very proud of the number of babies he brought into the world; loved golf, curling, bridge, traveling, and most of all his family. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ethna. Dear father of Leslie, Charles and his wife Kathy, Andrea McKay and her husband Harry, and Margaret "Mugs." Sadly missed by grandchildren Robyn and her husband Earl Vickers, Jennyn, Cameron, Andrew, and great-grandchildren Krystyn, Ben, and Abbey. Survived by brothers Orin and Melvin, and predeceased by 12 other brothers and sisters.
