LOFRANCO, Laura

Peacefully at home with her family on Saturday, January 24, 2009, Laura Lofranca was taken by the loving hands of God to be with her beloved husband John.

Cherished mother and grandmother of Marie and Armann; Gina, Glen, Dakota, Shawn, Tyler and Myles; Louis and Shirley, Robert, Rachel, Dana, Kyle and Keith; Michael Mary Lou, Joe, John and Charlotte. Dear sister of Rose, Joseph, Valley and the late Frank and Mary. Daughter of the late Louis and Theresa Prospero. Laura will be sadly missed by her many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

Laura will be resting at the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice, 905-432-8484 (corner of Highway #2 and Sandringham Dr.) where the family will receive friends on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard de Clairvaux Catholic Church, 1789 Lawrence Ave. W., Toronto (Lawrence Ave. & Jane St.) on Wednesday, January 28 at 10:30 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

RICHARDSON, Joanne (Jo) Sandra

Passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on January 24th, 2009 in her 63rd year.

Beloved wife and best friend to Tom. Devoted mother to son Thomas Gordon, daughter Katherine-Joanne (Kate) and son-in-law John Frendo-Cumbo Jr. Loving daughter to her mother Winnifred “Ted” Grant (nee Bigley) and father Gordon Grant formerly of Peterborough. Cherished sister-in-law to Brian, Ruth, Leanne, and Rick and aunt to Kayly, Chantal and Shane. Trusting friend to all who knew her, especially Ruby Frendo-Cumbo and her husband John.

Although Jo graduated as a R.N. from Peterborough School of Nursing in 1968 she was born to be a mother. She mentored many of her children’s friends and offered a welcoming and safe home for them whenever it was needed. Jo always had a kind word, open ear and a hug for everyone. She will be missed by all of her neighbours and friends as well as her four-legged children, Kelsey and Sheena.

Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) for visitation on Thursday, January 29th at 2:00 P.M. until time of Memorial Service in the Chapel at 3:00 P.M. Donations may be made to the Durham Regional Cancer Centre or the SickKids Foundation.

SHORT, Ruby Margaret

Peacefully, on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the Community Nursing Home in Port Perry, at age 87.

Ruby (nee McCoy, beloved wife of the late Cliff Short of Seagrave. Loved mother of Sharyn and her husband Garry Twiner of Latchford, and Shirley and her husband Vernon Gilson of Gilson's Point . Loving grandmother of Kevin (Rose), Laura (Scott), Colin (Amy), Rozalyn and Iris (Bryan), and great-grandmother of Grace, Cody and Dylan. Dear sister of Marjorie Jackson and the late Bruce McCoy.

The family of Ruby Short will receive friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, "McDermott-Panabaker Chapel", 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) on Friday, January 30th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. A Service to celebrate her life will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, January 31st at 11 a.m. with Reverend Paul Moorhouse officiating. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert.

If desired, memorial donations may be made by cheque to the the Huntington Society of Canada or to the Seagrave United Church Memorial Fund.

SILVESTRI, Maria

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday, January 24th, 2009 in her 86th year.

Predeceased by her loving husband Frank. Beloved mother of Tony (Antonia), Annette Scovino (and the late Victor) and Grace Bianco (Vince). Cherished grandmother of Marcy, Frank, Mauro, Maria, Frank, Sandra, Domenic, Tony, Frank and Angela. Adored Nonna of eleven great-grandchildren. Maria will be missed by her sister, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends. Maria will be remembered for her kind nature and her generosity.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARY OF THE PEOPLE CATHOLIC CHURCH (570 Marion Avenue, Oshawa) on Wednesday, January 28th at 10:00 A.M. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lung Association will be gratefully accepted.

WOJCIEL, Christine Lee

Passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 24th with her family by her side. Beloved daughter of Rowena and Walter, and his companion Colleen. Sister of Rose (Phil) and Lisa (Matt). Dear auntie to Claire, Kate, Jessica and Trent. At Chris' request there will be no service. The family would like to thank all the homecare workers and nurses who cared for Christine. A special thank you to the staff of Lakeridge Health in Oshawa for their kindness and care.

ZICCARELLI, Giuseppe
(Born November 13, 1927)

Peacefully at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa on Saturday, January 24, 2009, in his 82nd year.

Beloved husband of Divina for 58 years. Loving Papa of Teresa (Joe Custoza), Silvana (Frank Longo), Paolo (Almira Likon), Doriana (Vito Deligio), and Franca. Cherished Nonno to Nicolina and Bruno, Divina and Wesley, Stefania and Jason, Joseph and Claudine, Marco, Antonia, Divina, Joseph, Victor, Daniel and Nicholas, and Biz Nonno to Emilia, Anthony, Alexander, Westen and Cameron. He will be remembered by family and friends in Italy and Argentina. Many thanks to Dr. Caroline Ngo and the nursing staff, 4th floor, Lakeridge Health, Oshawa, for their respectful and loving care.

Resting at The ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street, Oshawa, 905-433-4711 with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the People Roman Catholic Church, 570 Marion Avenue, Oshawa, on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 12 o’clock. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, January 26. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.

CLARK, Barry E.

Passed away peacefully, at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry, at age 77 on Friday, January 23, 2009 with the surrounding comfort of family and friends after a long battle with cancer.

Barry is survived by his wife Maureen, sons John (and wife Pat) & Ted and daughter Margie (and husband Bill). He will also be missed by his granddaughters Connie & Sara and grandsons Shane & James.

A Private Service to celebrate the life of Barry Clark was held in the WAGG FUNERAL HOME,"McDermott-Panabaker Chapel", 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) on Monday, January 26th at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dr. John Sullivan officiating. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. If desired, memorial donations may be made by cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Friday, January 23rd, 2009 with her daughter by her side. Violet Szoldra (nee Northcott) in her 81st year.

Beloved wife of the late Peter Szoldra. Devoted and loving mother of Sharlene Szoldra and her husband Paul Pigeau. Wonderful and loving Grandma of Brianna. Violet is predeceased by her twelve brothers and sisters. Violet will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, their families and her friends.

Garfield, beloved husband of Brenda (nee: Hoffman). Loved father of Sebastian and his wife Brenda Lee. Dear son of the late Tony and Hilda Webb. Dear brother of Heather Myles. Loved son-in-law of Angel Hoffman and brother-in-law of Dale and her husband Donny Wood. Loved uncle of Shane, Freddie, Amanda, Jason and Chance.
