VANLONDEN (HOLSTEGE), Doreen (Dirkje)

At Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Monday, January 12, 2009 in her 78th year.

Doreen beloved wife of Gerrit VanLonden and the late Peter Holstege. Loved mother of Grace Forrester and her friend Bryan Cooke, Janet and Darrell Barrett. Loving grandmother of Tyler and his wife Shannon, Ian, Deanna and her friend Graham and David. Dear sister of Grace DeMooy, Jentina Stewart, Gerard Veleke and the late John Veleke.

Friends may pay their respects at the MORRIS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4 Division St. Bowmanville on Thursday, January 15, 2009 from 2 – 5 p.m. Funeral service complete in the MORRIS CHAPEL on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 11 a.m. Private family interment at Bowmanville Cemetery. Donations in Doreen’s memory to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be gratefully appreciated.

BIRD, Leo Edward

Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Corp. Oshawa on January 11, 2009 Leo in his 87th year.

BURNETT, Fern Irene

Passed away at ReachView Village in Uxbridge on Sunday, January 11, 2009 in her 92nd year. Fern, beloved wife of the late Timothy Burnett. Loving mother of Terry and his wife Gaye and Doris and her husband William Thomson. Devoted grandmother of Dale, Rhonda (Robert), Jason (Lindsay), and Lesley and great-grandmother of Max, Adam, Benjamin and Kara. Survived by brothers Lloyd, Ivan, and Bill. Predeceased by brothers Ross and Bruce and sister May. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

FORSTER, Beryl

Beryl died peacefully in the early hours of January 11, 2009 with family by her side. She would have celebrated her 84th birthday next week. She was born in Toronto and lived most of her adult life in Oakville, spending the last decade in Port Perry. Beryl, whose maiden name was Hohs, married Doug Forster in 1949. Beryl was an artist, rug hooker, reader, golfer, bridge player and traveller. She is survived by Doug and their children (Marilyn in Acton, Barb (Brian) in Pembroke, Ian (Liz) in Coboconk, Liz (Stephen) in Whitby and Amy (Michel) in Ottawa) and grandchildren (Alex, Matthew and Sara; Jennifer and Billy; Becky and Emily; and Andrew and Patrick). Beryl's family extends its sincere thanks to Dr. Ryan Foster and the nurses in the intensive care unit of Scarborough General for their outstanding care.

FLETT, Violet Louise

Passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto Ontario.

Loving wife of Bob for 59 years. Dear mother to Jane and her husband Tim Reilly and Isabell and her husband Doug Scott, all of Toronto. Cherished Ma of Andrew and Michael Scott and Jeffrey Reilly. Remembered fondly by nephew Ken Bickell and many other nieces and nephews. Predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends may call at McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King Street East, Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at GROVESIDE CEMETERY. If desired donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Flett to the Columbus Community United Church or Charity of choice.

JOBST, Maximilian Ludwig

Passed away at home on Sunday, January 11, 2009, in his 76th year, with dignity and courage after a valiant fight.

Beloved husband of Maureen for 46 years. Loving father of Carol-anne and Bryan. Dear Opa of Colin and Kayla. Max was loved and respected and will be greatly missed by his extended family and friends.

Passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, January 11, 2009, at the age of 82.

Beloved husband of Maureen. Predeceased by wife Vera. Loving father of John, Randy, Janice, Nancy, Shirley and Ted. Lovingly remembered by 19 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

Resting at The ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, 905-433-4711, with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Hedwig’s Roman Catholic Church, 411 Olive Avenue, Oshawa, on Thursday, January 15, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. Interment Thornton Cemetery. Visitation 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Prayers in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated.

SHAND, James Campbell

Passed away at the Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Sunday, January 11th, 2009 at age 63.

He leaves his wife of 42 years, Linda Mae (Beer) Shand; his son, Christopher James Shand and his wife Shellie and their 2 children, Eryka and Hailey. His Nephew Jeff Beer and Wife Jennifer and their 2 children MacKenzie and Jaden. His older brother George Shand and Ian Shand and his wife Edith and their family. He will also be missed by his companion – Shooter “dog, dog”!

Born and raised in Toronto and retired from the TTC in 1999. He was an avid fan for Green Bay Packers and loved to play guitar. He will be sadly missed. Private services for family and friends will be at his son Christopher’s home Saturday, January 24th, 2009 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Please call 905-447-3846 for details.

THOMPSON, Ernest (Ernie) Norman
(Retired 27 years from General Motors, Member of Simcoe St. United Church, Volunteer at Hillsdale Manor and Meals on Wheels)

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Peterborough Regional Health Center on January 11, 2009 at the age of 81.

Ernie was the beloved husband of Audrey Muriel (Souter) for 60 wonderful years. Brother of Verona (John) Arbuckle (British Columbia) and the late Dave (Edyth) and George. Brother-in-law of Howard (Marilyn) Souter. Loving father of Sharon (Gary) Dionne, Bradd (Linda) Thompson. Grandfather of Stewart (Pandora) Dionne, Jennine Dionne, Joshua (Adrianna) Thompson, Kim (Craig) Taylor and Michael (Rachel) Grasby. Great Papa to Cole and Hudson Taylor. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and many friends for his integrity and great sense of humour. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00pm.

Family and friends may join us for a celebration of Ernie’s life on Thursday, January 15, 2009, 11:00 am at MOUNT LAWN RECEPTION CENTRE, (21 Garrard Rd., Whitby N. of Hwy 2). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia (blood cancer) Foundation of Canada or Simcoe St. United Church would be appreciated.

Retired from General Motors In his 77th year. Passed away suddenly at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Saturday, January 10, 2009.

Loving husband of Helen for 49 years. Dear father of Donald, Barbara (Terry MacLean) and Allan. Caring grandpa of Allison, Trevor, Heather and Jacob. Survived by his sister Joan (Bert Olmstead) of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Special Thanks to the Marnwood Lifecare staff for their excellent care of Don.
