Dove: Stella Alice

Date of Death: March 7th 2003
Dove – Stella Alice Peacefully at Extendicare Starwood on Friday, March 7, 2003 in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Clarence Dove and the late George Patterson. Daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred Keizer formerly of Porters Lake, N.S. Dear mother of Margaret Pyle (the late Don), Donald Patterson (Beulah), William Dove (Jacqueline) and Barbara Cowan (the late Brian). Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sister Lillian Keizer and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son Robert Patterson, sisters Jessie, Bertha, Ruth and brothers Douglas, Danny and Clarence. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd. at Roosevelt on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until time of memorial service in the chapel at 2 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the Parkinson Society or Extendicare Starwood.

Downes: John Antony

Date of Death: June 24th 2003
Downes: John Antony Feb. 14, 1914 - June 24, 2003 passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 24, 2003 at the age of 89. Predeceased by his wife Sheila McMillan. Loved and greatly missed by his 5 children Mary (Warren Sheen), Martin (Linda Horricks), Anne (Chris Busby), Constance (Max Finkelstein) and Ruth (Greg Campbell). He was a loving and devoted grandfather to Kyle, Devin, Joseph, Colin and Isaac. Antony was born at Wimbledon, England. He studied at Imperial College, London and then continued his graduate studies in entomology on a Commonwealth Fund Fellowship at the Berkeley Campus of the University of California. He taught both at Imperial College and the University of Glasgow before emigrating to Canada in 1953 to accept a position as Research Scientist with Agriculture Canada (Biosystematics Research Institute). In 1977 he was awarded the gold medal for outstanding achievement in Canadian entomology. After retiring from Biosystematics in 1978 he continued his entomological work through appointments at MacDonald College, Montreal, and the Canadian Museum of Nature. Antony was still pursuing his entomological interests and his other passion the study of Catholic theology and early Christian history. Last year he completed a lifelong work - a theological treatise entitled "A Genesis of Early Christian Liturgies: the Ember Times". Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd., at Roosevelt, on Thursday June 26, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass Saturday at St. Basil's Roman Catholic Church, 940 Rex Avenue, Ottawa, at 9:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Hope cemetery.

Down: E. Gail (nee Warren) Peacefully, at West End Villa on Sunday May 18, 2003, at the age of 63. Beloved wife of the late Robert. Loving sister of Dorald Warren (Kathleen) and Susan Warren. Dear aunt of Laurie Lee, Tammy of Calgary, Robert Warren and great aunt of Derek, Ashley, Adam and Michael. At Gail's request a private family service will be held. Drew: John Duncan

DREW, John Duncan RCAF - WWII 44 year Employee of the Royal Bank of Canada Peacefully at home in Stittsville on Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at age 83. Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jean (Payson), his three devoted children: Dr. Margaret Deutsch, Douglas (Christine), and Mary Mirsky (Paul), and his grandchildren: Stephen, David, Amanda, and Daniel, all of Ottawa. Predeceased by his brother George. John was born in Yarmouth, N.S. in 1919 and in 1935, began his long career with the Royal Bank which was capped by 14 years as manager of the Kentville, N.S. branch. A respected and beloved member of the community, John belonged to the Rotary and Gyro clubs, lent his talents as treasurer to the local Board of Trade and Red Cross Society, and served for 15 years on the board of directors of the Kentville Hospital Association, including terms as President, as Fundraiser, and as Chairman of the Finance Committee. As a youth, he was an award winning Dominion Marksman and later became an accomplished curler as well. Two years ago, John and Jean retired to Stittsville, joining their children and their families in the Ottawa area. In retirement, John continued to be an avid and talented golfer (former President of Ken-Wo Golf Club, New Minas, N.S.) and an enthusiastic bridge player. John lived his life with gusto and will be greatly missed by all who knew the joy of his company. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore Drive and Baseline Road) on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Monday at 1:30 p.m. For those who wish, a memorial donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Dumouchel: Gérard

Gérard Dumouchel Gérard Dumouchel, fils d’Ovide Dumouchel et de Laura Lepage, est décédé le 18 juin, 2003 à Arnprior, Ontario, à l’âge de 69 ans. Il laisse en deuil son épouse, Cécile Robillard, ses enfants, Josée (Curtis McKeen), Luc (Pierre Larocque), Ginette (Robert van den Ham) et Cléo (Robin Bannerman). Il laisse également derrière lui ses petits-enfants, Sheena, feu Krystal, Alexis, Rachel, Nadia et Cameron ainsi que trois sœurs et six frères vivants. Enfin libéré d’un cancer qu’il a combattu pendant trois longues années, il nous laisse un exemple de courage et de persévérance. Le corps sera exposé au Garden Chapel du Salon funéraire Tubman au 3440 du chemin Richmond le vendredi 20 juin de 17 h 30 à 20 h 30. Le service funéraire aura lieu à l’église Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes à Vanier le samedi 21 juin à 9 h 30, et sera suivi de l’inhumation au Cimetière Notre-Dame à Vanier.

GAUTHIER, James Donald suddenly, yet peacefully at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, Toronto on Thursday, January 1st, 2004, at the age of 57. Beloved husband of Pamela. Loving father of Beverley, Shawn, Alison, and Ian. Cherished pops of 10, and great grandpa of 1. Dear brother of Daniel, Marilyn, Betty, Polly, and Anne. Cremation has taken place. Gauer: Christa Andrea

Gauer – Christa Andrea Christa Andrea Gauer, born October 13th, 1941, peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, April 04, 2003. Kind and loving sister of Peter (Daphne) Gauer and Rolf (Joan) Gauer and the late Hans Frankzkewitch. Beloved daughter of the late Wilhelmine and Andreas Gauer of Riga, Latvia. Dear sister-in-law of Trudy Frankzkewitch and aunt of Andrea and Derek Gauer, Elizabeth Nicholls, Andrew Gauer, great aunt of Jessica and Kaylie Grail, Mackenzie, Dylan and Devon. Christa enjoyed an illustrious career with the Canadian Government, including 25 years with External Affairs. She will be missed by many loving friends and relatives. Christa was an independent, honest, kind and courageous woman with a wonderful sense of humour and a kind and generous heart for people and animals alike. Special thanks to the staff at the Ottawa Hospitals and the Élisabeth-Bruyère Health Centre who contributed to Christa's quality of life. Garvin: Lillian Dorothy Winnifred Born April 1, 1918 Peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, on Tuesday July 15, 2003, at the age of 85. Predeceased by her husband William Thomas. Loving mother of Anne (Bruce Fraser), Joan (Michael Lavell), and William "Bill" (Marianne). Dear grandmother of Alexandra, (Mathieu Canavan) Julia, Katherine, Heather, (Ian Thomson), Robin and Sarah. Survived by her sisters Kathleen Lynch and Lois Kentfield, brothers Wesley and Arthur Halcro, and sisters-in-law Violet Veach and Gwen Garvin. She will be sadly missed by her friend Gertrude Moore and neighbors Margaret Croe and Mr. And Mrs. Bahar. Lillian was a long time member of St. Peter's Anglican Church, and was presently attending Britannia United Church. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road at Roosevelt, on Wednesday July 16, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service in the chapel on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Pinecrest cemetery. Beloved wife of the late Frederick James Garner. Loving mother of Diana (Wilson Friskie) of Port Coquitlam, BC. Dearest Grandmother of Jocelyn Roberts of Richmond, BC and Jessica Roberts (Dr. Victor Thompson) of Ottawa. Great-grandmother of Brier Finn of Richmond, BC. Dear sister of Gladys McCann (William), Gordon (Mary) and Charles (Evelyn). Sister-in-law to Ida, Verda, Marjorie (Keith), Alice Sarginson (Ray) and Katie Garner. Predeceased by her sisters; Muriel Summers (John), Jen Ross (Ed) and Lillian, and by brothers; Alonzo (Dorothy), Bill (Eva), George, Harry and Keith. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Nellie was a great-great-granddaughter of Philemon Wright – founder of Hull, QC. She was an active member of Christ Church Aylmer Ladies Auxiliary and Craft Club for many years, and was known for her beautiful handi-work. Nellie was also a Past Worthy Mistress of Rosemount Lodge # 347. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of the Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt) on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Predeceased by his mother Gladys Gardiner and his son Joe. Step-father of Marlyn Sallery (Claude Roy) of Italy and Shannon Sallery (Patricia) of Wakefield, PQ. Cherished grandfather of 9 grandchildren. Brother of Jean Dolan (Gordon) of Minn. GARBUTT, RUTH Ellen. (nee WICKMAN) August 9, 1928 - December 24, 2003 It is with deepest regret that our family announce the passing of our mother, Nana and great grandmother. Ruth passed away peacefully into God's keeping. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Norman Allan Garbutt. She was predeceased by her parents Ida Augusta Heinonen & Gustaf Wickman. Ruth was the youngest of 14 and is predeceased by Carlo, Otto, Willy, Robert & Alfred, Ida, Siama, Martha, Edna, Annie & Elsie. She is survived by her brothers Eddie & Harold Wickman. Ruth was the dear mother of eight children; Mike & Tina, Martin & Louise; Brian & Amanda, Bruce & Genevieve, Robert & Carolyn & Richard Garbutt; Kathryn & David Linton; Karen & Thomas Kahle. Ruth was a caring Nana to Jennifer & Greg Frey, Michael; Marlene & Sean Steip, Natalie,Tayler & Marcus; Jeffery & Suzanne, Andrew & Bobbi-Jennifer Garbutt; David, Katelin, Mitchel & Colin Linton; John-Thomas & Lillian Kahle. Ruth was loved by 6 great grandchildren. Ruth was an avid gardener and could often be found puttering in her flower beds until long after "the cows had come home". She was loved beyond measure and will be missed for all time. We'll plant some flowers in the hole you left us in the Springtime Mom, maybe a perennial favorite just like you. Safely now with God and reunited with her loving husband Norman. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to all the Doctor's and Nurse's in the Dialysis Unit and Soldiers' 1 at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Orillia. The late Mrs. Ruth Garbutt will rest at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia, on Friday (Today) from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.. Funeral Service in the chapel on Saturday afternoon, December 27th at 1 o'clock.
