Margaret Rehbein (nee Striehl) - 06/08/2007

On Thursday, June 7, 2007 in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Walter. Loving mother of Ingrid (Klaus) Seltenreich, Gerd (Louise) and Reinhold (Betty). Cherished grandmother of Michael, Steven, Jim, Christina and Peter. Also survived by her niece Helga (Gerhard) and family, and her relatives in Germany. Friends are invited to visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Martin Luther German Evangelical Church, 499 Preston Street (at Carling) on Monday at 11am. Those wishing may make donations to a charity of your choice.

40 Year Member of Elevator Union Local 96. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel. Beloved husband of Fran and father of Barbara (Robert) Shaver and Laura. Proud grandfather of Danny and Jenna Gordon. Son of the late Frankyn and Agnes Smith. Predeceased by sister Joan (Silvester), Paul and Patricia. Loving godchild of Marie McEvoy. Dear brother of Martin (Peggy), Marion (Robert) Scollan, Maggie (Ray) Lackey and Peter Smith. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road, on Monday, May 28, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral to be held at 11 a.m. in the Chapel, on Tuesday, May 29, 2007. Burial and reception to follow at Pinecrest cemetery. Donations to the Ottawa Food Bank would be greatly appreciated. Farewell to his Union Brothers and May He Rest in Peace.

Tom will be dearly missed by Logan , Quintan and Cameron. Dear brother-in-law of Joan Vietch and Anne Rouse and their families. Dear grandfather of Melanie, Belinda, Gabriel, Andrew and Sarah. Fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Albert and Emily Stone, 1 brother Albert and 3 sisters Lillian, Shirley and Emily. Friends invited to visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road at Aviation Parkway on Sunday, June 3rd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Aiden’s Anglican Church, 934 Hamlet Road, Ottawa on Monday at 11 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions to your favorite charity would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to the staff of the Dialysis Unit of the Ottawa Hospital General Campus for their loving care and compassion.

Ruth Evelyn Davis Swartzen - 05/27/2007

Born in Mitchell, Ontario, on December 17, 1915, our much loved mother, Ruth, passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on May 26, 2007 after a brief illness. She was pre-deceased by her husband and best friend Lt. Col. Gordon William Swartzen (1992) and is survived by her daughters: Judy Swartzen, Lee Allen (Larry), and Gail Ivanoff (Phil). She will be greatly missed by her five grandchildren: Sandy, Mike (Mary Ann Oberthier), Jamie, and Dave Allen, and Peter Ivanoff. married in 1940, Ruth followed her husband to England in World War II and served in the Canadian Red Cross Overseas Volunteer Corps. Since then, she has maintained an active life-long involvement in the Corps. Ruth was a respected and devoted teacher; upon her retirement, Ridgemont High School honoured her by establishing an award in her name, citing her dedication and integrity. A memorial service will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Red Cross or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Ward B5 and the Palliative Care team of the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their kindness and care. We also thank the staff of the Colonel By Retirement Residence and Community Care Access Centre of Ottawa for their support.

Statistics Canada, Retired Peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital after a lengthy illness on Friday, June 1st, 2007. Beloved daughter of the late Moses Torontow and the late Chenya Witen. Cherished sister of Jean Neamark. Predeceased by her brothers Henry Torontow, Edward Torontow and Eleanor Torontow. She is survived by her Sisters-in-law, Beatrice Torontow, Pearl Torontow and Eleanor Torontow. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Leah was a dedicated volunteer throughout her life to Hillel Lodge, the Civic Hospital, the Cancer Clinic and an original member of the RA Centre. A graveside Service will be held at the Jewish Community cemetery , Bank Street on Sunday, June 3rd at 3p.m. Shiva will be held at 1705 Playfair Drive. A special thank you to Leah’s caregivers Alla and Beryl for their loving care.

Loving mother of Nigel (Jana), Andrea (Brian Curran), Vikki, Robert (Sherree) and Minda (Gordon Neufeld). Proud and loving grandmother of Lauren, Madeleine and Keenan. Dear mother of Linda (Michael) Deschamps, Ron and Eldon all of Ottawa. Loving grandmother of Katherine (Tony) Lee, Shelley and Jim. Great-grandmother of Keanna and Kearin. Predeceased by her brothers; John and Art Edgerton. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Sunday, June 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday at 10 a.m. Special thanks to the very caring staff at Granite Ridge as well as to Olive for her loving support. George was a devoted member of the Baha’í faith since his high school years in Guyana. passed away at the Ottawa General Hospital on Sunday, March 9, 2008. Dear daughter of the late John and Gertrude Banks, formerly of Brockville, Ontario. Loving sister of Mildred Lavier (Jack), the late Mary Laverty (Bill) and the late John Banks (Betty). She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews and many friends. Doris enjoyed a long career with the Bank of Canada and was a longtime member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Ottawa. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street after 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008 until time of Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment Oakland cemetery , Brockville, Ontario.
