With his family and friends by his side, Joe died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at age 50, following a short but courageous battle with cancer. Loving husband of Jane(nee Jaworski). Proud and devoted father of Stephanie and Peter. Son of Giuseppina and the late Pietro. Brother of John (Betty), Frank (Colleen) and Carmelo (Vicki). Joe will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Interment Capital Memorial Gardens. Loving mother of the late Antonio (Dina), Emircio (Lai) of Portugal, Carlos (Dorothy), and Helena (Lesley). Cherished Nana to Mark (Brenda) Elliott of Barrie, Rick (Marci) Elliott of Belleville and Mary (D'Arcy Hammerton) of Belleville, great-Nana to Madison, Jacob, Karley, Julia, Shaelyn, Camryn and step-great-Nana to Bobby and Sheldon. Daughter of the late Stanley and May Malyon. Predeceased by her infant children David and Nancy Elizabeth. Wilma Kay Humphrys (nee Grant) - 03/11/2008
Died peacefully at the Peter D. Clark Centre in Ottawa on Sunday, March 9, 2008. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Humphrys and was predeceased by her brother Donald Grant and sister Isabel Moxon. Survived by sisters-in-law Rae Grant, Ruth Humphrys and Barbara Humphreys (Douglas) and by nieces Elspeth and Gwyneth, nephews David, Donald, Alexander, Peter and Brian. Wilma was born in Winnipeg, May 31, 1916. After attending public and high schools in Winnipeg she entered the University of Manitoba graduating in 1938 with the degree of Bachelor of Architecture, one of the few women architects in Canada at that time. Following graduation she worked in Winnipeg and in 1944 joined the Department of Veterans Affairs in Ottawa, designing a series of low cost houses for returning veterans. Many of these small graceful houses still dot a number of the original Veterans Land Act subdivisions in different parts of the country. In 1942 she married Richard F. Humphrys also a University of Manitoba graduate, an actuary who later became Superintendent of Insurance for the Government of Canada. They enjoyed a happy marriage in Ottawa for the next 63 years. Upon retiring from active architectural practice she devoted her time as a volunteer for many organizations especially the Canadian Save the Children Fund. Known as "Billie" in her younger years she was an excellent swimmer, avid bridge player, concert goer, watercolour artist and devoted aunt. Friends are welcome to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Wednesday, March 12, 2008 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Garnet Fraser “Happy” Jones - 03/11/2008
Peacefully in hospital on Saturday, March 8, 2008 following surgery at the age of 92. “Happy” grew up in Manitou, Manitoba, where he was born June 10, 1915. His proud parents were Edward Milton Jones and Alice Gertrude Fraser. He moved to Ottawa in 1942 where he married and raised his two daughters. He worked for many years with DND. Dearly beloved husband of the late Eva May (nee Dagg). Loving father of the late Valerie E. and Noreen Katzen (Sidney). Fond Grandpa Joney to Aaron and Joel Katzen. Survived by sister Irene Everett nee Jones; also numerous nephews and nieces, including Gayle Suvegas, Lynda Rhadjapur, and Darwin and Linda Dagg, and cousin Lorna and Gerald Dagg. Many thanks to Happy’s numerous caring friends and family, especially the following: W. Harrison “Harry” and Edna Thayer, Hazel Fraser, Lorne Whitty. Special friends from Dominion-Chalmers United Church include Yvonne and her late husband Keith Carberry and family, Harold, Kathy and Verna MacDonald, the Wilcox family, the Villanueva family, the Schachhuber family, the Lam family, the Walker family, and the Coulton family. Leopold Koppel - 03/12/2008
Leopold Koppel died peacefully at home with family by his side, on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the age of 90, following a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of 50 years of the late Vera Elsa (nee Pakul); dear father to Helgi-Lii (Andrej) Tenne-Sens and Arvo (Deborah) Koppel; and loving grandfather of Jennifer and Adam Koppel, and Marisa and Liana Tenne-Sens. Leopold was born to Riido and Emilija Andersons-Koppel on September 11, 1917, and spent his early childhood and youth in Latvia. During World War II, he fled from the Soviet forces that occupied Latvia and settled in Gothenburg (Goteborg), Sweden. He emigrated to Canada with his family in 1951, settling in Montreal where he eventually worked as a civil engineer for SNC-Lavalin. He retired after many years of service to spend more time with his family and to enjoy his cottage, travel, hunting and fishing. In 1987 he and his wife moved to Ottawa. He will be greatly missed by his brother Volrad (Lena) in Montclair, New Jersey; his cousin Vija (Bruce) Cole and family in Peachtree City, Georgia; his cousins Saima Medell, Helle Kadak, Helvi Kohandi and the late Arvi Koppel and their families in Estonia; his sister-in-law Helen Koppel of Arizona; his son-in-law's mother Valentina Tenne-Sens; and his nieces Lisa (Bruce) Roed and family of Maryland, Christine Koppel of Minnesota and Karen Koppel of British Columbia. He is predeceased by his brother Evald Koppel. Special thanks to Drs. Coloumbe and Aldridge, CCAC, and the personal support workers and nurses from We Care Home Health Services. Survived by his loving wife Colette Gravelle. Loving father of Jacques (Cathy Loudon), Denis (Suzanne Cashman) and Sylvie (Ronald McDermott). Fondly remembered by his 5 grandchildren Gilbert, Julie, Charles, Vincent and Emma Rose. Dear brother of Suzanne (late Normand Tremblay), Liliane (late Ernest Coupal), Yolande (Jacques Lauzon), Robert (Jeannine) and Madeleine. He will be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Shiva will be held at the family home 1593 Featherston Drive. Morning and evening services will also be held at the family home.

Peacefully at Granite Ridge Specialty Care on Sunday, March 2, 2008 in his 94th year. Beloved husband of Rachel “Ray”( nee Abbey ). Loving father of Malcolm ( Beverley Smith) of Ottawa and Linda ( Thomas Gray ) of Seaforth, ON. Cherished grandfather of Marie(David Filmer) of Brisbane, Australia, Blaine of Ottawa and the late Krista. Don was a World War II veteran, serving in the Canadian Army overseas from 1940 to 1945. Following the war, he returned to Montreal to work at the Family Herald and Weekly Star as associate editor; before moving to Ottawa in 1969 to join Agriculture Canada. He retired in 1979. A memorial service will take place in the Spring. A special thank you to the staff at Granite Ridge for their compassionate care over the past 4 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
