Gallant - On January 9th, 1918 at Duvar, there entered into rest, Dometilde Gallant, the beloved wife of Jeremiah Blanchard, in the sixty-second year of her age.
She had been in failing health for some years, and the final summons was not altogether unexpected.
During her illness she was visited by her pastor, Rev. F.H. Gallant, and she had the consolation of receiving the last rites of the Catholic Church, of which she was always a devoted member.
The deceased was ever the most faithful wife and the kindest of mothers.
She leaves to mourn besides a sorrowing husband the following sons and daughters: Prof. J.H., of the Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown; Angus, at home; Andrew, Vancouver, B.C.; Felix, Duvar; Peter, in England; Urban, "Somewhere in France," Mary (Sister St. Andre), Providence, Rhode Island; Alvina (Mrs, Albert Poirier), Duvar; Emily, teacher at Riviere Des Barres.

The funeral which was largely attended was held Friday Jan. 11.
A Requiem Mass was sung by her pastor, Rev. F.H. Gallant, after which all that is mortal of a loving wife and tender mother was laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the parish church of St. Anthony.
The pall bearers were Messrs. Paul Gallant, Benjamin Pitre, Francois Richard, Dominic Gallant, Raymond Doiron and Leon Pitre.
MacLean, Meggison - Family and friends were deeply saddened on January 19, 2000 by the death of Jessie Beatrice (MacDonald) MacLean. She was a resident of the Long Term Care at the O'Leary Community Hospital. She was born June 3, 1904 at MacNeill's Mills, P.E.I. She was the oldest child of the late Stephen and Mary Jane (Meggison) MacDonald.
At an early age Jessie and her family moved from MacNeill's Mills and settled in Carleton, P.E.I. In 1913, at the age of 8, her mother died, leaving 7 children, and being the oldest, was left to care for her younger brothers and sisters. This was a great task for someone so young. When she was older she went to the United States and was employed as a housekeeper in people's homes.
On January 2, 1924, she married Charles H. MacLean of Milo. They were married in Abington, Mass. The following year, Jessie received word that her father was dying of cancer, so Jessie and her young son returned to the Island to look after her brothers and sisters. Her husband returned to the Island a few months later. It was after her younger siblings got older and moved to the States that Charlie, Jessie, and her young family moved to West Devon, where they did some farming and fishing.
Over the years, many people passed through her home. They were always made welcome and invited in for a bite to eat. Her nieces, nephews, and older grandchildren have many memories of happy hours spent on the farm: fishing, picking berries, and milking cows to name a few. One never went home unless they had cookies and doughnuts to take home with them. She loved to knit mitts and socks, hook rugs and many quilts that her family enjoys today.
Three children were born to this marriage: Ralph (Marion) Norton, Mass.; Wanda (Leith) Arbing, Woodstock; and Arnett (Barbara), Glenwood. She was blessed with 16 grandchildren: Gary, Sharyn, Peter, and Tom MacLean, U.S.; Arlene, Charles, Steve, Sherri, and Ronnie Arbing; and Jeanne, Lorne, Alan, Rodney, Kathryn, and Phillip MacLean. She also had 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Ethel Ray of Nantucket. She was predeceased by her husband Charlie in 1968, her grandson Leith Arbing; daughter-in-law Helen MacLean, brothers: George, Lorne, Kenneth, and Ellis MacDonald and a sister, Edith MacIsaac.
The funeral was held January 23, 2000 at Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel and was tenderly laid to rest in West Devon United Cemetery. The following poem was found in Mom's belongings after her death which best describes the day we lost our mother:
When the light of day is breaking,
And the day has just begun,
And the songs of earth are waking,
With the rising of the sun.
We know not what lies before us,
When the day has just begun,
We may never see tomorrow,
Or the setting of the sun.
