Dear brother and brother-in-law of Etta and Jerry Gross, Ben and the late Zelda Scharf, Frances and the late Nordau Silverman, the late Naomi Silverman, the late David Silverman, the late Clarence and the late Irene Silverman. Brother-in-law of Ruth and the late Mike Gruenwald. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law of the late Goldie and the late Joe Pearl, the late Bertha and the late Harry Piafsky (Pines), the late Ella and the late Hy Stein. Sadly mourned by her nieces, nephews, family and friends. Special thanks to her caregivers Glenor Baptist and Laverne Patterson. Dee Dee Smilovitch

SMILOVITCH, Dee Dee (née Mendlovitz). Peacefully, on Thursday, August 2, 2012, in her seventy-fifth year. Best friend and inspiration to her loving husband Ernie Smilovitch for almost fifty-three years. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Dr. Mark Smilovitch and Sharon Brodie, and Kenneth Smilovitch (Lisa Vinebaum). Proud Grandma of Michael, Daniel and Jonathan. Dear sister-in-law of Sema Smilovitch, Belle Klompus (Leo) and Hersh Smilovitch (Arlene). Daughter of the late Marcus Mendlovitz and the late Jenta Leah Mendlovitz, and sister of the late Aron Mendlovitz, all of whom perished in the Holocaust. Dee Dee was a hidden child in Belgium during the Holocaust. She had a wonderful nursing career and was a nurse educator at John Abbott College. Dee Dee was incredibly caring and touched many people in her life with her amazing strength, warmth and wisdom. The family would like to thank Dr. Christine Legler and the staff of the Montreal General Hospital, and to express their gratitude to her caregivers at home, Hyacinthe and Christiane. GROSZ, Endre (Andy) (Cigany). It is with great sadness that we announce the peacefully passing of Andy on Monday, August 6, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital, with his cherished wife, Anni Bontos, by his side. She will miss her beloved husband, soul mate and best friend. Andy was born in Hungary; he was a Holocaust survivor and the last of ten ‘Grosz’ siblings. His amazing journey and success will live in our hearts forever. He was an exceptional and generous man.
