EISENSTAT, Shirley (née Benjamin). Surrounded by her loving family at Hillel Lodge, Ottawa, on Thursday, February 28, 2013. Devoted wife of the late Irving. Loving and devoted mother and mother-in-law of Michael and Deborah, Deborah and Howard Krebs. Cherished Bubbie of Stefanie and Jeff, Liane and Ian, Adam, Geoffrey and Mandy; Jonathan and Meital, Avi, and Naomi. Proud great-grandmother of Rhys, and Emily. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Alta and the late Laurie Mushkat, Helen and the late Gordy Froman, Delphine and the late Sonny Benjamin. Shirley will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, family, and all those whose lives she touched. Dear sister and sister-in-law of the late Carol and the late Marvin Silver, and sister-in-law of the late Dr. Edward and the late Alice Kirsch, the late Leonard and the late Florence Kirsch. Cherished cousin of Thelma Geary. Rene will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her. LEVINE, Bessie (nee Gordon). 1911 – 2013. Peacefully, at the age of one hundred and one, on Thursday, February 07, 2013. Beloved wife of the late Mike Levine. Special mother and mother-in-law of Joyce and Ken Morrison, Solly (Saul) and Ann, and Steven. Grandmother of Annie and Issam, David and Natalia; Mischa and Marcia, Zachary and Catherine, Jaime and Karin; HannaMei. Great-grandmother of Dov; Alexander and Thomas; Sophie, Jacques, Madeline, and Camille; Leila, and Sebastian. Our memories of her are as of a beautiful young woman, a voracious reader, a politically involved and social idealist, who always espoused fairness and civil rights for all, an advocate for the dispossessed and the challenged, demanding of her children to contribute, and most demanding of herself. Many thanks to all the staff members at the Lev Tov Residence for all of their undivided attention to Bessie. Devoted father and father-in-law of Mark Rosenzweig and Lynn Normoyle, Cathy Rosenzweig and Mark Bindman, Jay and Renee (Cons) Rosenzweig. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Lillian and the late Dr. Simon Gold, Marion and the late Martin Rosenzweig, and brother-in-law of the late Sonny and the late Ricky Savage. Cherished ‘Papa’ of Laurie Rosenzweig and fiancé John Parker, Steven Rosenzweig and Kelsey Gushue, Renee Rosenzweig; Melanie Bindman and Amanda Bindman; Samantha, Alexandra and Joseph Rosenzweig. OSTROWSKI, Riven (Romek). Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in his one hundred and second year. Beloved husband of Pola Rozencweig for sixty-five years. Devoted father and father-in-law of Lenny Osten and Miriam Schuster, Felice and Jeffrey Flegg. Extraordinary grandfather of Ilana Osten and Jason Liss, Matthew Osten; Lindsay Flegg and Jon Michel, Julie Flegg, and Daniel Flegg, all of whom gave him so much love and pleasure. He lived to meet and play with his great-grandson, Jamie Adam Liss. Riven was a Holocaust survivor who loved his family, music, dancing, and nature. Words cannot describe how much appreciation we have for his care giver Julia Hidalgo who made his last few years comfortable and peaceful with her love and encouragement. Heartfelt thanks go to Aida Gozlan, Lily, and Josephine, of Neve Ora who showed him so much love and care over the past few years. Special thanks to the compassionate doctors and staff of 4 North at Maimonides Geriatric Centre.
