Stevens, Walter

The family of Walter Stevens announces the passing away of this fine man after a hard fought battle with dementia on April 23, 2012 in his 83rd year. His last moments were surrounded by his loving family. Walter is survived by his wife of 58 years Margaret (Pope), daughter Cathy (Nick DeNobile), two sons Mark (Carmen) and Paul (Linda) and his six adored grandchildren Sarah and Megan, Sebastien and Kelly, Courtney and Cole. Walter is also survived by sister Marge (the late Ed Smith), Edna (Ouellette) and brothers Weldon (Jacqueline) Jim (the late Noreen) and Bill (Joyce). He was predeceased by sister Isobel (the late Doug Dykeman). Uncle Walter will be sorely missed by his many nieces and nephews. Walter worked at Dyson and Armstrong from 1956 to 2003 and was coowner with his brother Bill from 1969. He greatly valued the many enduring friendships he developed during his career. Walter was also a devoted supporter of the Wales Home Retirement Residence. He served on numerous committees and was president from 1996 to 1998. Walter was always actively involved with the Trenholm and the Richmond Melbourne United Churches. Walter was a member of the St.Francis Masonic Lodge # 15 where he worked on various community projects. Walter was always interested in local communities and served on the St.Felix de Kingsey council for many years. He was a man that never believed in having idle moments and taking time to put up his feet. At the centre of his life, Walter was a family man, greatly loved and proud of his family. At any opportunity he loved to be in the presence of his grandchildren and it brought out his youthful side. He believed in family, the value of work, fun, striving to do your best, having a positive outlook and looking for the good in everyone. Those of us who were blessed to know and love Walter will miss him and strive to honour the memory of this gracious and honorable man. Visitation will be at Cass Funeral Home, 295 rue Principale Sud, Richmond, Friday April 27, 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00. Funeral service will be held at Trenholm United Church, rte.243 N. Trenholm, Quebec, Saturday April 28, at 2:30. Visitation with precede the service, beginning at 1:00 at the church. Special thanks to the many family and friends who supported Walter and his family throughout his battle. Also the care and compassion he received from the CLSC and his entire health care team was invaluable and greatly appreciated. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wales Home Foundation, www.waleshome.ca/foundation

Siebert Engelmann, Martha

Peacefully at the Pavillon St-Vincent, on Wednesday April 4, 2012 at the age of 97. Martha Siebert beloved wife of the late Gerhard Engelmann and loving mother of Frank (Françoise Murphy) and Gerhard (Marlies Hoffmann) and cherished grandmother of Ricky (Hélène Pelletier), Nicole and Peter. Resting at the St.George's Anglican Church Lennoxville, where friends may call on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 1 to 2 pm followed by the funeral service at 2 pm. Rev. Wanda Dillabough officiating. Interment in the Malvern Cemetery. As memorial tributes, donatios may be made to Vitae Foundation, 375, rue Argyll, Sherbrooke, QC J1J 3H5 would be appreciated by the family.

Stewart Smith, Myrtle

Passed away at the C.S.S.S. Memphremagog on Monday, March 26, 2012, at the age of 105 years. Beloved wife of the late William S. Smith and loving mother of Doreen (Robert Perreault) and Terry (Gisele Bergeron), Myrtle will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren Desmond and Francois, as well as her 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Cremation will take place. A graveside service will be held at Crystal Lake cemetery at a later date. As a tribute to her memory, donations made to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. Swift, Kathleen
1920 – 2012

Passed away peacefully at the Fleurimont Hospital, Sherbrooke, Quebec, March 5, 2012 in her 91st year. A resident of the Wales Home, and formerly of Montreal, she will be sadly missed by her daughters Christine and Susan, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Heartfelt thanks for the care and comfort given at the Wales Home and by the CHUS Neurology staff. Internment of her ashes will take place in late summer, at her parents (James and Bertha Swift) grave site. July 25, 1929 – May 6, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edythe Hodge of Sawyerville, QC. At the age of 85 on May 6, 2015, residing at the Morrison Residence. Surrounded by her loving husband of 68 years Raymond Hodge and several children, grandchildren and friends. Left to mourn with their dad are their children Sheila (BobTuck) Welland Ont, late Ernie (Nancy Spalding) Sawyerville, Maurice (Heather Mckay) Ancaster, Ont, Dale, Delhi, Ont., Shirley (Syd Statton) Mississauga, Ont., Ruth (Robert Addis) Waterville, Ben (Karen Keats) Sawyerville, June (Tim Dezan). Stony Plain, AB. And Joy (Lee Patry) Sawyerville. Grammie of Darrell Hodge (Amanda), Corey Hodge, Angie Statton (Scott Burke), Amy (Dave Dzura) and Ashley McComb (James Pepin), Daniel and Matthew Archambeault, Kathleen and Rebecka Hodge, Kayla (Brandon Calloway), Bryson (Alexandra) and Ryder Suitor, Stephanie, Annie (Tony Bell) and Alexandre (Alexandra) Patry. Great Grammie of Marcus Tuck, Jacob Hodge and Sammantha MacLean Powlett, Kurt and Alisha Harris, Casey and Shelby Burke, Arielle Dzura, McKenzie Archambeault, Blaze and Bella Archambeault, Cameron and Naomi Knight and Bentley Suitor. Sister-in-law of late Malcolm (late May), Gordon (Brenda) Cantonment, Fl., Lawrence (Carol) Goshen, MA, late Graydon (Laurel) Sawyerville, late David, Alethea (Dave Taylor) Williamsburg, Ont. And Gwen (Ted Fleming) Innisfil, Ont. Edythe will also be sadly missed by Wayne Suitor and her best friends Liz French and Bob Bishop. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Cookshire Cemetery. Cremation was held at the Cass Crematorium. Visitation at Cass Funeral Home, 15 Station St. Sawyerville on Thursday, May 14 from 7 to 9 and on Friday May 15 from 1 to 2 with the service at 2. Interment at the Cookshire Cemetery. The family would like to thank Debbie and her staff at the Morrison Residence for their excellent care and compassion.

Wood Haddon, Suzanne
November 8, 1944 – June 16, 2016

Surrounded by love, and with strength and grace beyond measure, at La Maison Aube Lumière on June 16.

Sue was the adored mother of Sarah, dear sister of Peter, and Auntie Sooze to Susannah and Nick. She will be greatly missed by Sarah’s father, Ron, his nephew Chris and niece Kerry, her many friends both here and in the UK, and her extended family.

Sue embraced life fully, with a sense of optimism, kindness and good humour, and took immense pleasure in sharing a multitude of activities with her wide circle of friends. She had boundless energy and curiosity, and her loss will be keenly felt by all who loved her.

Special thanks to the gastroenterology team at CHUS-Hôtel Dieu and the cancer care unit at CHUS-Fleurimont, particularly Dr. Beaudoin and Dr. Bachand, as well as Dr. Doyon and the staff at La Maison Aube Lumière, for the superb care shown to Sue. Her family would also like to thank her many friends for their thoughtfulness, love and support, particularly her dear friend Sue Turner.

Respecting Sue’s wishes not to have a formal farewell, no visitation or service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign or the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

Schnakkers Schroeders, Maria H.

Schroeders, Maria (nee Schnakkers)Passed away, following a courageous battle, at the CHUS Fleurimont on Thursday July 4th, 2013, Tiny Schroeders at the age of 89. Loving wife of the late Henri Schroeders, and dear mother of Isabelle (Albert), Lambert (Margaret), Marie (Brian), Nico (Denise), Joe (Sandy), Nellie (Bruce), John (Brenda), Shirley, and Henry (Lisa). Tiny also leaves to mourn her 25 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews in Holland, and many friends. Resting at the Cass Funeral home, 295 Principale S., Richmond, where friends may visit on Wednesday July 10th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, and on Thursday from 10 to 10:45 AM. A funeral mass will be held at Ste-Bibiane Catholic church on Thursday July 11th at 11:00AM, followed by the interment in St-Bibiane Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family

Stroud, Cheryl

The Reverend Cheryl Patricia Stroud Passed away in the palliative care unit of Hotel Dieu Hospital on Friday, June 21, 2013. She is survived by her husband, David Dutton and her sons Bruce and Philip Dutton. Born to the late Harold Stroud and Hilda (née Saunders) Stroud in Hamilton, Ontario on June 1, 1947, Cheryl is also survived by her mother, Hilda; her sister, Melanie Stroud; and brothers Douglas (Brenda) and Michael Stroud and their families. Since her arrival in Lennoxville in 1972, Cheryl, a talented pianist, singer, conductor and organist, has played a prominent role in the local musical community. She was the founder of the music program at Champlain Regional College, and a member of the Bishop's University Music Department. In her last few years Cheryl was called to the priesthood and was ordained a deacon in the Anglican Church on May 1st of this year. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 14:00 in St Martin's Chapel, at Bishop's College School, followed by interment in Malvern Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Uplands Chamber Players or the Deanery Pastoral Ministry Team c/o "St Peter's, Sherbrooke".

Simpson Thomas, Alice

Passed away peacefully at the CSSS Memphremagog on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the age of 90. Cherished wife of the late Ozzie Thomas and precious mother of Michael and Myrna-Manon (Noel). Dear grandmother of: Danny, Sophie, Claudine (Antoine), Kevin (Valerie), and Roxanne. Alice will also be sadly missed by her great-grandson Charles-Antoine and her sister-in-law Marlene, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. There will be visitation in the presence of her ashes at the Cass Funeral Home on Monday, June 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a service in the Manoir Stanstead, with Rev. Lise Kuzminska officiating. Interment will take place in the Dixville cemetery. As a tribute to her memory, donations made to the Manoir Stanstead, 496 Dufferin, Stanstead JOB 3E0 or to the CHSLD, 50 St-Patrice est, Magog, QC. J1X 3X3 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
