Gordon Richardson
On Friday, January 2, 2007, Gordon Richardson passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 80 years. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Bessie Richardson; his first wife, Helen Richardson and son, Gary Richardson. Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his second wife, Jean Richardson of Weyburn; daughter, Diane (Dennis) Gregory of Calgary, AB; sons, Allan (Dianne) Richardson of The Woodlands, TX and Glen (Janice) Richardson of Calgary, AB; grandchildren: Drew (Natasha) Gregory, Scott and Neal Gregory; Gary, Laura, Paul and Ian Richardson; Andrew, Greg and David Richardson; step-children, Ronald Gray of Salmon Arm, BC and Marjorie (Wade) Kerley of Calgary, AB; step-grandchildren, Jason (Chelsey) Grey, Jon Grey, Jana (Ryan) Chantler, Dustin and Lisa Kerley; step-great grandchildren, Mickelle and Jarvis Chantler, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Gordon Richardson was born October 27, 1926 at Weyburn. He grew up on the family farm near Colgate, attending Lorndale School. He took his high school at Colgate and Weyburn, then attended the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1951. In 1956 Gordon married Helen Moats. They lived on the farm at Colgate where they raised their children and attended Colgate United Church. Along with farming, Gordon took winter employment with the Department of Agriculture, Weyburn Vocational Centre, Long's Equipment, Fisk Repair, Sask. Technical Institute and Wascana Technical Institute. In 1969 he married Jean Gray. He continued farming until 1991, and in 1992 they retired to Weyburn. Gordon was involved in various community activities both in Colgate and Weyburn, and was known as a 'make and fix specialist'. He continued his church involvement with Calvary Baptist Church in Weyburn. He kept busy with woodworking and mechanical design and fabrication, and loved to travel. Gordon was a man of strong character. He had a very strong love of family and a great sense of humour. He will be greatly missed by all he knew and loved. A memorial service was held Saturday, January 6, at 2:00 p.m. from Calvary Baptist Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Doug Loden officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Brendan Joseph Carroll
Brendan Joseph Carroll, late of Weyburn, passed away on December 29, 2006 at the age of 70 years. He was predeceased by his parents John and Agnes Carroll; three brothers: William, Adrian and Gerald; his stepmother Mary. Brendan is survived by his loving wife Louise of Weyburn; his four children: Sharon (Fareed) Ahamed, West Vancouver, BC, Jerry Carroll, Cathy (Ronald) Gerry, Brandon, MB and Andrea (Robert) Kukurudz of Brandon, MB; his step-children: John (Heather) Driedger, Moose Jaw, Jake (Wendy) Driedger, Saskatoon, Abe (Donna) Driedger, Broadview, David Driedger, Winnipeg, MB, Daniel Driedger, Moose Jaw and Dianne (John) Elder, Hamilton, ON; 20 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother David (Judy) Carroll, St. John's NFLD; sister Mary(Walter) Pupkis, Boston, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews. Margaret Novensk
Margaret Novenski, at the age of 81, passed away at her residence in Bellville, ON on November 15, 2006. She was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Ida Novenski, her sisters: Annie Bahnuick and Mary Vilcu; her brothers: Joe, Paul and Harry Novenski; brother-in-law, Fred Bahnuick; nephews: Byron Novenski and Danny Novenski. Margaret is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Joe) Tokarz, sisters-in-law: Theresia Novenski and Phil Fowler, brother-in-law, Nick Vilcu, as well as many nieces and nephews. Margaret was born September 27, 1925 in Steelman. The family moved to Griffin, and this is where Margaret received her schooling. She worked in the area for several families and then moved to Wolsley, for six years. In 1947, she moved to Belleville, ON with friends. She was a loyal employee of the Kresge Department Store from 1949 until she retired in 1988. She was the operator of the lunch counter called the 'Fountain' and never missed a day of work, except for one day when her boss thought she wasn't coming in. Margaret called in sick at about 8:50 a.m. Her boss, knowing that the Fountain had to open at 9:00 a.m. sharp, was in a real panic because none of the staff, including him, could fill in for Margaret. At 9:00 a.m. Margaret waltzed in to the store and up to her boss with the words "April Fool." Many young people learned how to serve customers under her capable leadership. There was a mutual feeling of respect and pride between Margaret and her staff. Margaret transferred her membership from Saskatchewan to Quintena Rebekah Lodge #133 on March 4, 1947. She was an active member in the Lodge until she answered the Final Roll Call on November 15, 2006. She served her lodge as the Noble Grand in 1975-76 with honor and dignity. Sister Margaret was acting past Noble Grand for the conferring of the Rebekah Degree at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto on June 14, 1983. During her 59 years of membership she held many offices and was always a willing and capable assistant with fund raisers, often being found in the kitchen helping with cleanup duties. Margaret had many dear friends that she spent time with, playing cards, going to bingo and going to dinner. She loved baseball and was a Toronto Blue Jay fan. She also loved to knit. She made several trips back to Saskatchewan over the years to visit family and friends. She will be especially missed by Virginia and Herman Baughman (her former boss.) She was like a member of the family and attended many family gatherings, including Christmas. The Baughman children affectionately called her aunt and their children called her Grandma Margaret. A memorial service was held by the members of the Quintena Rebekah Lodge on November 20, 1006 in Bellville, ON. A graveside memorial service was held at the Griffin Cemetery on December 30, 2006 where her ashes were laid to rest. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Bonnie Louise Snelling
Bonnie Louise Snelling passed away on December 26, 2006 at the age of 62 years. She was predeceased by her father Les McPhee; mother Verna Towne; stepfather Lloyd Towne. Bonnie is survived by her husband Arvin Snelling, Weyburn; her children: Trevor Strachan, Medicine Hat, AB, Cheryl (Tom) Rudy, Weyburn and Tracey (Erin) Strachan, Broadview; grandchildren Zack and Braden Rudy, Weyburn; sister, Donalda (Bob) Johnston, Weyburn; step-children: Miles (Lori) Snelling, Weyburn, Kim (Lynnette) Snelling, Regina, Bonita(Mark) Schlopp, Sparwood, BC; step-grandchildren: Sarah and Erika Snelling Weyburn, Leah and Brett Snelling, Regina, Joshua Schlopp, Sparwood, BC and Aaron Schlopp, Calgary, AB; as well as several nieces and nephews. Bonnie Louise Snelling was born on April 26, 1944 at Regina. She received her education at Western Christian College in Weyburn. On July 5, 1985 she married Arvin Snelling. Bonnie enjoyed dancing in her younger years and also enjoyed bowling. She was a member of Grace United Church in Weyburn. The Service of Remembrance for Bonnie Snelling was held on Saturday, December 30, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Church, Weyburn, with Rev. Hazel Arbon officiating. All who attended the service were considered honorary pallbearers. Interment was at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. John George Heier
On Friday, January 5, 2007, John George Heier, late of Crocus Plains Villa, Weyburn, passed away at the age of 91 years. Predeceased by his mother and father, Pauline and John Heier; sisters, Ida, Clara and Anna Heir; one nephew, Russell Stone; and brothers-in-law, Wes Heebner and Charlie Stone. John will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Freda Stone of Weyburn, and Lydia Heebner of Davidson; nieces: Norma (Gary) Ness of Weyburn, and Janet (Wade) Hainstock of North Battleford; nephew, Mark (Joanne) Heebner of Tisdale., great nieces and nephews, great great niece and nephew, cousins and many friends. John George Heier was born January 25, 1915 in Odessa, Russia during some very unsettled times. At the age of 13, he immigrated to Canada with his family, sponsored by the Lutheran Church. They settled in Weyburn for the first year, and then to a farm near Ralph, where he took his schooling at Littlerock School and Souris School in Weyburn. In 1946 they moved 1- 1/2 miles south of Weyburn, where he remained until about eight years ago when he bought a house in Weyburn on 2nd Street, and from there lived at Crocus Villa for the last four years. All his life John was a farmer at heart, and was a great grain farmer and raised Herford bulls. He took many trips back to Russia and met with some of his cousins. He also enjoyed his trip to Alaska, Disneyland, and many other places. He was a very generous man, giving to many charities and community fund raising events, like the grandstand. John was a faithful member of his church, and loved all the activities that came with it. He enjoyed singing with the men's choir and the gospel singers. He wasn't the 'showy' type, but quietly lent his hand to anything that needed attention. He lived his faith quietly but faithfully. Funeral service was held Monday, January 8, at 11:00 a.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Martin Olson and Marjorie McLeod officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. The active pallbearers were: Ted Scholz, Gordon Strong, Joe Kaufmann, Garry Ness, Gordon Button, and Fred Megenbir. Ethel May Fawcett
On Thursday, January 4, 2007, Ethel May Fawcett, passed away at Weyburn Special Care Home at the age of 80 years. Ethel was born in Langham, on January 15, 1926 to William and Dora Barrowclough. She has made Weyburn her home for over 40 years. Ethel was predeceased by her parents, and one daughter, Lois Bailey. Ethel will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 60 years, Leslie Fawcett of Weyburn, and their children: Ken (Judy) Fawcett of Regina; Gord (Cecylia) Fawcett of Nanaimo, BC; Heather (Mike) Giroux of Yorkton; Dave (Lynn) Fawcett of Weyburn; son-in-law, Harvey Bailey of Cabri; grandchildren: Rob, Jeff (Jaime), Kylee, Kelsey, Chad, Tyler, Bradley, Zachary, Rebeca, Natalia, Alexandra, Nicholas, Ashley, Bret, Kacey, Elisa, Kyle and Adam; three great grandchildren; brothers, Albert (Muriel) Barrowclough and Bruce (Ruth) Barrowclough; sisters, Florence (Cliff) Dumont, Joyce Metcalf, Evelyn (Chuck) McClelland, Myrtle (Ian) Maddock and Doreen (Allan) Southgate, as well as many numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Brian David Looker
Brian David Looker, late of Sandy Beach passed away suddenly on January 3, 2007. It was Brian's wish not to have a funeral. Cremation with interment to follow at a later date. Brian was born at Kindersley on October 14, 1955. Brian attended school in Francis, Sedley and Weyburn. As a boy he participated in soccer, baseball and curling. Over the years he also enjoyed playing and coaching hockey. His greatest loves were fishing and hunting which he shared with his father and passed on to his sons. Brian was employed in various capacities for local farmers, Dairy Producers, City of Regina, SaskTel, long haul trucking and most recently at the Provincial Correctional Centre. Brian will be lovingly remembered by his parents Arnold and Wilma Looker along with his sons Tyler Schiltroth, Chad Looker (Amanda Deveyrac) and Jesse Cal; sisters Valerie Gutenberg (Keith) and Lorraine Wilkinson (Warren) as well as brothers Darren Looker and Wayne Looker (Tracy), Brian's best friend and partner Susan Coleman along with her family Jamie, Tara and Stephen; nieces Liz Rebrinsky, Nikki Rebrinsky, Haile Looker, Naomi McGowan, nephews Dawson Looker and Brandon McGowan along with other special "buddies". Elsie May Reid
On Wednesday, January 10, 2007, Elsie May Reid (nee: Pearson) passed away at the age of 85 years at Haven Hill Retirement Center, Penticton, BC. Predeceased by her parents, Earl and Janet Murray; her first husband, Ervin Pearson, her second husband, Cecil Reid; and a brother-in-law, John Dorgan. Elsie is survived by one son, Mervin (Elaine) Pearson of Ponoka, AB; her brother, Sam (Vera) Murray of Weyburn; her sisters, Olive (Earl) Grier of Moose Jaw, and Ruth Dorgan of Saskatoon; grandchildren, Rhonda Pearson and David (Cameo) McBride, of Edmonton, AB, Shawn (Heather) Eden of Ponoka, AB, Terri (John) Weikum of Ogema, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held Thursday, January 18 at 11:00 a.m. from the Free Methodist Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Jay Mowchenko officiating with scripture readings by Evelyn Prentice and Jean Pady and a tribute given by Dennis Dorgan. Interment followed in Ogema Cemetery. Pallbearers were: David McBride, Harry Jensen, Shawn Eden, Tyler, Adam and John Weikum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Annie E. Smith
On Friday, January 12, 2007, Annie E. Smith of Pineview Lodge, Nipawin, passed away at the age of 100 years 3 months. Predeceased by her first husband Charles Gawley, her second husband Sigurd Smith, six sisters, four brothers, son-in-law George Gehon, stepson Wilfred Smith, grandson Scott Gawley and great grandson Blake Gawley, Annie leaves to cherish her memory her children: Ernest (Lorna) Gawley, Joyce Gehon, Robert (Evelyn) Gawley, stepdaughter Evelyn (Conrad) Stollock, stepson Clifford Smith, one brother Mervin Baxter, 22 grand and step-grandchildren, 43 great grand and great step-grandchildren, and 11 great, great grand and step-great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Annie had a great love for her family and children and a deep determination to have them succeed in life. She worked hard as a housekeeper, a cook, and a seamstress to make sure they got their schooling. Her hobbies were crocheting, knitting, quilting and gardening. Each of her children, grandchildren and some of her great grandchildren received, as a token of her love, a quilt made by Gramma. She loved to travel, be it by car, bus or air to visit family and friends and to see different places. After moving north to her new husband Sigurd's home, she found new friends and added fishing to things she liked to do. Annie was a life member of Alexandria Rebekah Lodge #14 and the family thanks all her Rebekah friends for their fellowship and kindness over the years. The family expresses sincere appreciation to Annie's doctors and the staff of Pineview Lodge for the care provided during her stay at the home. We request that bequests made in her memory be directed to Pineview Lodge, Kelsey Trail Health Region, Nipawin. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 19 at Coventry Funeral Services Ltd. Chapel. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Snowden.
Gunhild Johanna Kinsman
Gunhild Johanna Kinsman late of Radville passed away peacefully at the Weyburn General Hospital on January 19, 2007 at the age of 90 years. Gunhild was predeceased by her parents: Jonas and Freda Swerd; her husband Howard; son Rae; two sisters: Martha and Evelyn. She is survived by her daughter Marj (Eldon) Saboe, Radville; her grandchildren: Keith (Brenda) Saboe, Radville and their children Kara (Clayton) and their daughter Keeley, Kendra and Kyle; Lorna Olson, Regina and her children Reagan (Danny) and their children Madeline and Leo, Lindsay (Landon); Della(Rene) Paulhus, Moose Jaw and their children Trena (Aaron), Deanie and Tayla; Rhonda Saboe, Regina and her daughter Courtney as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gunhild Johanna Kinsman was born February 14, 1916 and was raised in the Minton-Gladmar area. She had attained her grade eleven education. On January 25, 1935 she married Howard Kinsman and together they took up farming at Minton. She stayed on the farm, raising her children while Howard was overseas for 5-1/2 years. In 1976 they retired to Radville. When Howard passed away, she carried on with her busy life. Gunhild enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and baking. Most dear to her was her church, family and friends. She loved to entertain everyone. Gunhild enjoyed visiting the sick and the shut-ins. She was a very independent lady up until her health began to fail. Gunhild had a deep faith, which helped her through the years. She touched many people's lives and will be deeply missed by all that knew her. The funeral service for Gunhild Johanna Kinsman was held on Monday, January 22, at 2:00 p.m. from Radville United Church, with Pastor Gary Penner officiating. Interment followed at Gladmar Cemetery. The active pallbearers were Kyle Saboe, Blaine McCutheon, Robert McHattie, Brent Blackmore, Jay Blackmore and Arnold Leatherdale.
