Linda Kunze
Passed away: October 18, 2006
Agnes Helena “Linda” Kunze, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK at the age of 60 years. Linda was born on December 13, 1945 in Swift Current to Isaac and Anne (Wiebe) Dyck. She was the oldest of three daughters and raised in a Christian home. She took her schooling in Herbert and upon completion, she worked at the Swift Current Hospital and various other jobs in the area. She met Frank Kunze and they dated for several years before getting married on December 4, 1970. They were blessed with two boys, Cory and Joe. Linda was a very loving wife and mother. She would always be at sporting events, like hockey and baseball, in support of her boys. She loved farm life, especially watching the little calves kick and jump, the flowers as they started to bloom, and cats. She also enjoyed working in her kitchen and canning. Some of her favorite hobbies were flower gardening, collecting stamps, music boxes and chime clocks, reading various novels especially her favorite book the Bible, which she had read three times from cover to cover and was now on her fourth time. Speaking of collecting chime clocks, something Linda enjoyed doing with her clocks to annoy Joey would be to turn 4 chime clocks about one minute apart, so that instead of 4 chimes going at once you would hear 4 different sets of chimes. Linda was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who asked. She always looked forward to the July 1st picnic which she held annually for 26 years. Something else she always looked forward to was the time of year to put up lights. Oh how, Linda cherished her Christmas lights. She would put them up the 3rd week of November and not take them down until into January. Everyone else was tired of them after a week, but not her. Linda suffered for years with headaches and migraines, but now she is free from any pain or suffering. Linda leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Frank Kunze, of 35 years; their two boys, Cory Kunze and Joe Kunze, both of Herbert; her mother, Anne Dyck; her two sisters, Olga (Richard) Kroeker and Lorraine (Corney) Klassen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Isaac Dyck; and by several aunts and uncles. Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same. Until we meet again. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, October 23, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from the Evangelical Free Church, Herbert, SK with Tony Brennan officiating. The pianist for the service was Verna Andres. “How Great Thou Art” and “Sweet By and By” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Pete & Liz Fehr. The eulogy was shared by Tom Donnelly. Special chosen musical selections on CD were “Where Could I Go But To the Lord”, “How Great Thou Art” and “He Knows Just What I Need” by Elvis Presley, “Angels Among Us” by Alabama, and “I Believe” by Diamond Rio. The ushers in the church were Randy Schaitel and Darren Thiessen. The Interment Service was held at the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Harry Andres, Murray Martens, Pete Fehr, Harry Gerbrandt, Tom Donnelly and Pete Thiessen. In memory of Linda Kunze, donations made to the Herbert Evangelical Free Church would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
Courtland "Court" Campbell
Passed away: October 22, 2006
Court Campbell, beloved husband of Betty, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2006. Court was predeceased by his father, John, and his mother, Phyllis. He will be lovingly remembered by his best friend and wife, Betty; his children, Scott of Edmonton, AB, Celeste of Medicine Hat, AB, Gus (Tracy) of Swift Current, SK, Colette (Jamie) of Medicine Hat, AB; his grandchildren, Diana, Jordon, Kyle, Jarrett, Katherine, Christian, Donald, Kelly; and his great-grandchild, Amber Lynn. Court was born in Riverhurst, SK on May 20, 1927. He was schooled in Riverhurst and Moose Jaw. He then moved to Ontario where he worked in an Aircraft Factory, and a Pulp & Paper Mill. When he was 20 years old, he moved back to Saskatchewan and worked at CP Rail for 3 years. In 1950, he started his long career at the Sask. Power Corporation. In 1951, he took a leave of absence to join the conflict in Korea, where he attained the rank of Lance Corporal. After 3 years, he came back to Saskatchewan and resumed working. Court met and married Betty Engler, had their 4 children, and in 1970 moved to Swift Current where they settled. After many years of service he retired in 1983. Court was an only child, therefore, he enjoyed all family gatherings large or small. He had a passion for hockey, politics and Canadian History. He was always ready to tell a story or joke and laugh along with you. In the summer, you could either find him in his garden, out fishing or going camping. He was an avid reader and loved playing cards. Court loved living life and wanted to be remembered by his family and friends for his love and honesty. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from the Salvation Army Chapel, Swift Current, SK with Captains Paul & Jennifer Loner officiating. The pianist for the service was Jenice Neufeld. “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross” were sung by the congregation. Tributes to ‘grandpa’ and the life history were shared by the grandchildren. The ushers in the church were Jordon Marleau and Jarrett Kushner. The Royal Canadian Legion formed the Guard of Honor and had the Last Post. The Interment Service was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Jordon Marleau, Kyle Marleau, Diana Kushner, Jarrett Kushner, Donald Campbell and Jamie Osmond. In memory of Court Campbell, donations to the CNIB or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
Lynne Lucyk
Passed away: November 17, 2006
LUCYK - Lynne Annette Lucyk (Nelson) August 28, 1977 - November 17, 2006. Lynne leaves to mourn her passing her two children December and Dominick Lucyk of Swift Current, her parents: Sid Nelson (Lorie), Janice Thorsen (Duane); sister Laura Nelson (Tyler & Erica); grandfather, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Lynne was the second child of Sidney and Janice. She was born on August 28, 1977, in Melfort, SK. The greatest joy and accomplishment in Lynne's life was the birth of her two beautiful and special children; December Danielle Lucyk born on April 30, 1993, and then Dominick James Lucyk born on August 4, 1998. They enriched her life and made her complete... She shared her creative and artistic talents with her children and was always eager to make and create something unique with them. Her love of nature was evident by how much time she and the kids explored by the creek looking for crayfish or at the lake helping to find the next rock or fossil to take home and add to their treasures. As a child she was often found playing with animals and bringing home every stray kitten she ever saw. She seemed to delight in pulling creatures out of her pockets like bugs, grasshoppers or anything most little girls thought were creepy and crawly. Yet she was a true girly girl who loved Barbies and dressing up. Her artistic talents showed themselves early on when she would draw or sketch the most detailed of pictures. She loved to paint and create; something she did her whole life. December is so fortunate to have a beautiful painting her mom made for her just last week. Music was another part of her daily life and she loved all kinds. Her collection was an as individual as she was. If you stopped over to visit you could count on being greeted with a smile and an energy that was uniquely Lynne. We were so fortunate to have had her in our lives. She was a devoted and amazing mother, a loving and caring daughter, a treasured sister and a reliable and special friend to so many...
Frank Toews
Passed away: November 25, 2006
Frank Martin Toews, January 28th, 1913 – November 25th, 2006. Frank Toews was born and spent his childhood on a farm nine miles north of Herbert, Saskatchewan. He attended Reed Valley school and Los Angeles school through grade eight. Following that, he worked on his father's farm for three years. As a young man he rode the rails to Southern Manitoba to seek farm work. The challenges of his uncle Rev. John J. Hooge's farm proved to be no match for his determination, including winning the hand of Katherine Harder who lived and worked there. They were married in 1935. Together they returned to Saskatchewan to join Frank’s family. They lived with Frank’s parents for the first winter, but, the following spring they fixed up an old house on the Brownstone quarter. That’s where their first child, Phyllis, was born on July 17th, 1938. They rented from, and then bought land from, W.W. Smith, and lived on section 27. On July 17th of 1942, their son Barry was born. In the fall of 1943, Frank and Katherine moved to Reinfeld and rented 3 quarter sections plus 40 acres from Frank’s Taunte Marie (Mrs. Peters) and farmed there until 1978. Frank traded in the considerable success of his farming career for retirement when he was 65. He and Katherine moved to Swift Current, where many happy years were passed enjoying family, friends, and church. Together they traveled to Europe, Florida, Hawaii, Arizona and much of Canada, bringing stories and treasures back for their delighted grandchildren. Frank was fascinated by the workings not just of machines but of the world around him. He was fond of a good laugh and a good song. His two children, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and his wife can all attest to the firmness of his grip and sharpness of his sense of humor. And on his last day alive, he shared a cold beer with a good friend. Frank Toews spent 25 years on the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Committee with the McMahon Wheat Pool. He also spent several years as secretary of School District of Iris #4154. Frank served as Sunday school superintendent at the McMahon General Conference Mennonite Church, but in the mid-fifties when the church closed, the Toews family returned to the Emmaus Mennonite congregation in Wymark. Upon retirement, they transferred their membership to the Zion Mennonite Church in Swift Current. Katherine left him a widower in 1987; he was remarried in the summer of 1988 to Agatha Quon. They lived together until he entered the Swift Current Care Centre in 2004. Frank Toews was predeceased by his eight year old sister, Margaret; and five year old brother, Jacob, who died of diphtheria in 1915 within 24 hours of each other. In adulthood he was predeceased by his siblings, Henry of Abbotsford, BC, Mary of Swift Current, SK, Gertrude of Herbert, SK and George of Saskatoon, SK, leaving him the last surviving member of the Peter Toews family. Surviving children, Phyllis (and Gordon) Unrau and Barry (and Deanna) Toews gave him five grandchildren, Grant (and Janelle) Unrau, Elaine Unrau, Lisa Unrau, Darren (and Karen) Toews, Candace Toews (and husband Peter Burgess). Frank was also proud of his great-grandchildren, Beth and Nigel Unrau Schellenberg, Kira and Emily Toews and Benjamin and Elan Burgess.
Bob Wiebe
Passed away: October 23, 2006
.Robert “Bob” T. Wiebe was born in the Swift Current Union Hospital on August 1, 1958 to Nick and Agnes Wiebe. Bob, beloved husband of Ruby Wiebe, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2006 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 48 years. Bob leaves to cherish in memory his wife, Ruby; his two sons, Dustin & Krysta and Darren; and his grandson, Levrette Wiebe. He is also survived by his mother, Agnes Wiebe; his brothers, Rueben (Marge) Wiebe, Dave (Sharon) Wiebe, and his twin, Bill (Loreen) Wiebe; his sister, Olga (Ken) Wik; his nieces and nephews, Cory (Nicole) Wiebe, Natasha (Ryan) Morrow, B.J. Wiebe, Ryan Wiebe, Byron Wiebe, Kelly Wiebe, Carrie Wall, Keri-Lynn Bouvier, Ron (Sandra) Wik, Steven (Char) Stanley, Sheldon Timms, Chelsea Wiebe; and all his other extended family. He was predeceased by his father, Nick Wiebe in 2003. Bob Graduated from Grade 12 in 1976. After graduation he moved to Saskatoon and worked at Acklands. He married his best friend, Ruby Neustaeter, in 1978 and moved back to Swift Current. He then worked at Thompson Auto Supplies (NAPA). His first son, Dustin, was born in 1983, and his second son, Darren, was born in 1985. He retired from selling auto parts and moved on to selling cars which was his lifelong passion. Bob was also very active in the church in various positions. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from the Trailview Alliance Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Kevin Snyder, of East Side Church of God, officiating. The pianist for the service was Trudy Olfert with a musical selection provided by Bob Jamieson singing, “I Can Only Imagine”. The life history was brought by Krysta Wiebe with tributes of their ‘dad’ shared by Dustin and Darren Wiebe. “Awesome God” and “Amazing Grace” were sung by the congregation. The ushers in the church were Stan Aikens, Lyle Downey, Henry Klassen and Max Mirau. The Interment Service was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following cousins serving as pallbearers, Danny Dyck, Steve Froese, John Dyck, Arnold Wiebe, Ernie Froese and Jake Janzen. In memory of Bob Wiebe, donations to the Canadian Cancer society would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
Harry Holderbein
Passed away: November 25, 2006
Harry William Holderbein, age 77, of Swift Current, SK and formerly of Hallonquist, lost his battle with cancer. He looked up to heaven and was peacefully ushered into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, on Saturday, November 25th, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, with his loving wife by his side. Harry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne; his children, Linden (Sharlene) Holderbein, Jerry (Elsie) Holderbein, Lorraine (Kevin) Boutilier, Lorne (Margaret) Holderbein, all of Swift Current, SK and Brent (Norine) Holderbein of Osoyoos, B.C.; his Grandchildren, Janelle (Scott) Matthies, Jason (Melissa) Holderbein, Melissa Boutilier, Brad Boutilier, Tracy (Jesse) Schellenberg, Amy Holderbein and Daniel Holderbein; his Great-grandchildren, Judah and Elijah Matthies; his mother, Sarah Holderbein; his brothers, Allan (Sheila) Holderbein, Ken (Val) Holderbein, Lyle (Kathie) Holderbein; his sisters, Jelena (Don) McColl, Dianna (Henry) Banman, Valerie (Roger) Rayner; a sister-in-law, Marlene Holderbein; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, William Holderbein; a brother, Gordon Holderbein; a nephew, Perry Holderbein; and by a niece, Kimberly Banman. Harry, the eldest of eight children, was born on the family farm at Neidpath, SK on January 17, 1929 to William & Sarah Holderbein. He attended Wiwa View School, near Hallonquist, starting at the age of 12 and completed grade 6. He then attended the Alberta Bible College where he met Anne Miller, the love of his life, whom he married on October 15, 1950. They moved to the family farm, south of Neidpath, and farmed there for the next 52 years, during which time they were blessed with a daughter and four sons. Harry loved farming and could hardly wait each spring to start his tomato seeds and to plant his garden and his crops. His hobbies and interests were hunting, fishing, hockey, skiing, curling, snowmobiling, skeet & gopher shooting, gardening, weather watching, bird watching, traveling, carpentry, electrical work, singing and playing the guitar. He was a handyman and could fix anything. He loved birds and built elaborate birdhouses. He raised and propagated Canada Geese, his favorite, and other exotic birds as well. He learned to downhill ski at age 59 and loved to go on ski trips. He also enjoyed rodeos and auction sales. Harry had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. Fond memories were trips to Vernon and Kelowna each summer to visit family and to pick fresh fruit to be later canned and enjoyed all winter, and going to the driving range where everyone had a chance to “take their turn” practicing their golf swing. Also fun and pleasurable were the frequent trips to the Hot Springs in Malta, Montana where his children learned to swim. He loved to travel, whether it was far away to San Diego, California or B.C., AB, Montana, or just down the road to Bonanza or the Dairy Queen, where he could be seen often with family or friends. Some of his favorite times were spent with his children and grandchildren, either at special occasions or just playing board games with them such as crokinole or rummy cube, giving them rides on the four-wheeler, showing off his garden or going to the DQ! He delighted very much in his grandchildren and later in his great-grandchildren. He was sad when some of them had to move away, knowing he could not be with them as much as he would have liked. Harry was a very private man who became a Christian at age 20 and rededicated his life at 67. After that, a fond memory of him was when he would use the expression, “The Bible says…” and then would continue on with a Bible verse and a lesson to go along with it. He read his Bible faithfully every day, and also daily prayed for his family and served God in his own quiet way. In the spring of 2002, Harry & Anne retired, held an auction sale, bought a house and moved to Swift Current. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle and cousin will be sadly missed, but we take great comfort in knowing that we will meet him again in Heaven some day.
Esther Heller
Passed away: November 23, 2006
On Feb 27, 1948 Esther Marie Allen was born to Pearl Rose Billet in Swift Current, SK. For Esther, it was a fight from the start as she weighed a little under 3 lbs. Approximately six weeks later, the loving family of Fernie & Bertha Heller of Fox Creek, SK adopted Esther. In March of 1961, the Heller family moved to Castor, AB where Esther remained for most of her life raising her 3 children Erwin, Frances, and David. Esther moved back to Saskatchewan to find her birth mother and lived in the Swift Current and Moose Jaw area, which is where she met her special friend of 10 years, Real Plante. Esther was passionate about life, she loved making others laugh and working in gardens, both hers and with anyone else who needed a hand. She also loved attending rodeo’s, going camping, having a good game of bingo with her friends, and spending time with her grandkids. Esther was known for her soft heart and compassion for others, she was always giving a helping hand to those around her, working hard at all she did. After fighting a long battle with cancer, Esther passed away on November 27, 2006 in Swift Current, Sask and now she can rest in peace and free of pain. Esther is survived by her three children, Erwin Engel of Blackfalds, David White of Edmonton, and Fran West (Chuck) of Blackfalds; her grandchildren; her mother, Pearl Billet, of Swift Current; her brother, Wes Keller, and friend, Deidre West, of Wetaskiwin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by her special friend, Real Plante; and by her adopted parents, Fernie and Bertha Heller, of Castor, Alberta. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, November 30, 2006 at 2:00 pm From the Alpine Church of God with Pastor Alex Allen officiating. The pianist was Sharon Penny, Jack Peters was the song leader. The congregational hymns were “The Old Rugged Cross”, “In The Garden” and “Amazing Grace”. Pallbearers were David White, Chuck West, Erwin Engel, Grant McCagherty. Cremation took place following the Service. Donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home.
Thelma Trostem
Passed away: October 12, 2006
Thelma June Trostem passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the age of 85 years. Thelma will be lovingly missed by her children, Dick (Delores) Trostem of Calgary, AB and Vonda (Wilbur) Feader of Moose Jaw, SK; her three grandchildren, Kevin (Cheryl) Feader of Saskatoon, SK, Pam Feader of Prince Albert, SK, and Sean Trostem of Grand Prairie, AB; and by her three great-grandchildren, Kyle and Amber Feader of Saskatoon, SK, and Connor Trostem of Grand Prairie, AB. She is also survived by a sister, Ruth (Bill) Anderson of Lacombe, AB. Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Helmer, in 1995; and by two sisters, Louise Preston and Vi Alm. Thelma was born on March 28, 1921 in the Tompkins district and served in the RCAF from 1942 - 1944. She married Helmer (June) Trostem in 1945. They lived in the Tompkins area until 1953, when they moved to Gull Lake with their family. Thelma worked at the Gull Lake Hospital for many years as a nurses aid. She enjoyed her family and friends, crafts, bingo, word puzzles and her flowers in the summer. The Private Family Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from the Swift Current Funeral Chapel, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Bev Diduck of Knox United Church, Gull Lake, SK officiating. The organist for the service was Nora Rudolph. “Whispering Hope”, “In the Garden”, “Here I Am Lord”, “In the Quiet Curve of Evening” and “Beyond the Sunset” were sung by the congregation. The Interment of Cremains was held at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. In honor of Thelma Trostem, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Gull Lake Ambulance or to the Charity of the Donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
