Regina, SK

Jake is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marge, son Gerald (Pat) granddaughters Stephanie and Jan of Cumberland House, SK., daughter Melanie (Ron) Jakobs of Regina, SK., great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Jake was born in Regina on January 10, 1925. He attended Connaught Public School and, Scott Collegiate. After high school Jake served his country by joining the South Saskatchewan Regiment and served overseas as a motorcycle courier. Upon returning to Canada in 1945 he worked for Kraft Foods as a salesman where he made lifetime friendships. He spent most of his working life travelling the roads of southern Saskatchewan eventually working for Nabob Foods, O'Keefe Brewery, and Canadian Schenley. He also spent time managing the Regina Golf Course and, finally, owned and operated the Rouleau Hotel. In later life Jake became a Commissionaire at SaskTel and the Walter Scott Building. Jake met the love of his life Marge and married in 1948. Over the years he participated in many sports - hockey, golf, curling. He spent many hours watching his beloved Montreal Canadiens with all his momentous and regalia surrounding him. He also was a season ticket holder at the Rider games for 25+ years. Jake spent countless hours sharing his skills of organization and "gift of the gab" with the A.C.T. and the Wa Wa Shrine Club. The Traveler's Day Parade was a yearly event that he revelled in planning-especially when riding his BMW motorcycle. Jake was a very active member of the Shrine. He loved working the booth at the Ex, taking kids to the midway, and just being with "the guys". As a result of many years of service it was an honour for him to serve in 1985 as Potentate for the Wa Wa Temple. Friends he made with these activities were near and dear to him. A special part of Jake's life was the family that surrounded him. He was blessed to marry into a family with a bevy of beautiful girls. His Ellis "sisters" - Jean (Larry) Busch, Evelyn (Bob) Walker, Eleanor Bauman, Myrna (Bev) Bell, Pat (Len) Flaman, Dianna (Jeff) Emick, and Doreen Adams (deceased) and their children gave him joy.
