HERREILERS, OLIVE IRIS,
Notice dated: 01/05/2002
Calgary, AB
HERREILERS - OLIVE IRIS HERREILERS Always Loving: Always Loved The family of Olive Iris Herreilers (nee Leslie) are deeply saddened to announce her peaceful passing surrounded by family at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre on December 26, 2001. She was a gentle, honest, generous woman who dealt with her illness with tremendous strength, dignity and courage. Olive was a gracious, loyal, devoted wife and a loving, proud mother, who walked in beauty guided by her faith in God. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she enriched with her genuine love, caring, kindness and wisdom. Heaven has received a very special angel to watch over us. Olive was born in Saskatchewan and first worked at the Army & Navy as a Mail Order Clerk and then McBride's Ltd. in the Bakery department. She enjoyed participating in many sports activities, including skating and playing softball with the Army & Navy Orange Caps as shortstop and first base. The girls advanced to many tournaments, some of which were played in the United States. Olive was proud of her career with Belgium Glove and Hosiery (Eastern) Ltd. as Manageress of the Regina store where her conscientiousness received her many accolades, letters of praise and evaluations of perfect efficiency ratings. Her superiors and colleagues had the utmost respect for her. She met and married the love of her life John Herreilers and was very instrumental in helping Dad establish his career with British American Oil as an architectural draftsman. After becoming a Mother she returned to Belgium Stores for a short while and later resigned much to the company's disappointment as she was scheduled to take charge of opening a shop in Lethbridge, AB. When transferred to Calgary in 1959 they purchased our first house where Mom's tireless, busy hands made us a comfortable home and her passion for gardening and pristine flowerbeds made the world a more beautiful place. Olive was an avid reader and with Dad's encouragement she learned to sketch and paint watercolors. Mom was a giver, not a taker, who gave strength, joy and happiness to everyone she touched and was totally devoted to her family always ready to put their needs before her own. She was a private, independent, spiritual woman who listened and inspired others with her sense of humor, positive outlook and zest for living. Her heart of gold and winning smile will be sadly missed, yet happily remembered. We know that those who knew and loved her will keep Olive in their hearts and say a prayer in her memory. Olive is survived by her daughter Beverley, son-in-law Norman Zombor and Norman's daughter Kristina, all of Calgary. Also left to cherish her memory are sister Helen Edie, Vancouver, BC, sisters-in-law Neta Leslie, Regina, SK and Lois (Robert) Kirch, Ogden, Utah as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Olive was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 48 years, John Henry Herreilers, her parents, her siblings: Thomas, Katherine, Mary, Eleanor, Anna, Joseph, Rose and Frank. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and caregivers of Unit 61 at the Foothills Hospital and Unit 47 at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre who provided Olive with such exceptional and compassionate care throughout her illness. Thank you to all those who visited and supported Olive throughout her life, plus the many people who entered Olive's life during this time. Beverley and Norman appreciate the love, kindness and encouragement of family, friends and neighbors. A special thank you to neighbors Lynne and Gerry Esser and Sheldon and Anne Begg. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society (Calgary & District Unit Office, 2nd Floor, 215 - 12 Avenue, S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 1A2). A Celebration of Thanksgiving for Olive's life will be held at LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOME "Chapel of Remembrance" (17th Avenue and 2nd Street SW, Calgary) on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Laverne Hautz officiating, followed by a reception. In living memory of Olive Herreilers a tree will be planted in the Garden of Everlasting Life at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
"Dear Mom: You had a large fund of good, hard, common sense which enabled you to meet and master every situation. You loved with all your being; you were a perfect daughter, sister, friend, neighbor, auntie, employee, wife and mother; you made important contributions while on this planet; you served and kept the faith. Your greatest gift was your ability to love - unconditionally. Thank you for all you did for Dad and I and for granting me my Christmas wish. I love you with all my heart and soul Mom and will deeply miss your soft touch and beautiful sweet smile of love. Lord, I place her in your hands. May God grant you eternal rest, dear Mother, peacefully with Jesus Christ. All My Love Always, Hugs and Kisses, your loving daughter, Beverley."
