BIRD - Kenneth Alvin Bird, late of Regina, SK passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at the age of 61 years. Predeceased by his father and mother Robert and Theresa Bird; and his son Kenneth Scott Forester. He is survived by his son, Max Wade Forester; his loving companion, June Eagle; brother Dick (Norma Jean) Byrd, half-brother Fred Gordon and June's family, daughter Cheryl Eagle and her daughter Kirstyn; Kenneth is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, along with many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 8, 2003 from the Chapel of Lee Funeral Home, 3101 Dewdney Ave., Regina, SK. BLACKMORE, DR. WILLIAM P. - Dr. William P. Blackmore died on Monday, November 3, 2003 at Delmar, New York. He was born at Maryfield, Sask., Canada and is predeceased by his parents Mr. & Mrs. William Blackmore, Moosomin, Sask., Canada and his wife G. May Blackmore of Delmar, New York. Survivors include: Gordon and Dorothy Blackmore of Calgary, Alta.; Fred and Beth Blackmore of Red Deer, Alta.; Mrs. Mary Lund of Kelvington, Sask.; Mrs. Ethel Wiebe of Regina, Sask.; Mrs. Gladys Brindle of Regina, Sask.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Dr. Blackmore was a graduate of Regina Teachers' College and had a B.S. degree from the University of Saskatchewan. He obtained a M.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Illinois, Chicago and an M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He served in the R.C.A.F. during World War II in Canada and England. He was an Associate Professor at University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School during which time he was author of many research papers published in scientific journals. In 1962 he joined Sterling Winthrop Research Institute in Rensselner, New York and became Director, Division of Clinical Research until retirement in 1984. He was a member of Normanside Country Club, having served on its Board of Directors, as well as on the Board of Directors of the Albany Salvation Army. In addition, he was a member of the Delmar Rotary Club, St. Andrew's Society, and Albany Men's Garden Club. He was a volunteer at Bethlehem Blood Pressure Clinic for many years. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Wildwood Programs, 2995C Curry Road, Extension Schenectady, New York, 12303. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina with Rev. William Lourens officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held at a date to be announced at the First United Methodist Church, 428 Kenwood Ave., Delmar, New York. FOWLER - STEPHEN Christopher, late of Rocanville, Sask., was born January 2, 1915 and passed away November 2, 2003 after a courageous battle with declining health. Stephen was predeceased by his parents Robert & Margaret, brother Robert and sister-in-law Annie, sister Susie and brother-in-law Elton Orr, brother-in-law Bill Davis and nephew Garry Davis. Stephen is survived and will be missed by his loving wife Blanche, daughter Gloria (Grant) McCutcheon, son Bryce (Joyce) Fowler, Grandchildren: Kent (Sandra) McCutcheon, Kim (Peter) Langevin, Blaine (Tammy) Fowler, Sheldon Fowler, Kyle Fowler (Toby-Lynn) and great grandchildren Lance, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Avery, Nysa, Sabrina, Brandon and Derek. He will also be missed by his sister Dresda Davis. Funeral service was held from G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel, Moosomin, Sask., on Wednesday, November 5, at 2:00 p.m. with Donalda Taylor officiating. Interment was in Webster Cemetery, Rocanville, Sask. AITKEN - The family of Bud (H.L.) Aitken sadly announce his passing on Friday, November 7, 2003 at the age of 74 years. He leaves to mourn his daughters Wanda (Alvin), Cindy, Darla (Chris), son Dana (Cathy), sister Marilyn Templeton as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. BANFORD, EARL JOSEPH - July 12, 1928 November 6, 2003. Beloved husband and devoted father, Earl Banford, passed away. He is always loved, never to be forgotten. Dad is survived by his family who cannot conceive of a life without him but are grateful to have had this wonderful man to call husband and father. CURLISS DR. GEORGE O CURLISS. (JULY 25 1924NOVEMBER 7 2003) - After a decade long battle with cancer, George passed away at RUH, his family at his side. Left to cherish memories are his loving wife of 53 years Helen, his children and their partners: Douglas (Karen Janke) of Saskatoon SK, Dean (Debbie Reynolds) of Redondo Beach CA, Alison Horpinuk (Duane) of Calgary AB, Brian (Gill) of Vancouver BC, Neil (Miranda) of Salem OR, Karen (David Spriggs) of Brisbane AUS, his beloved grandchildren Andrea, Kereth and Fiona, and a large extended family. George was born and raised in Assiniboia SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 and served aboard the HMCS Restigouche. At war's end, he spent two years recovering from tuberculosis in Fort San SK where he met his future wife Helen Baxter. Graduating from the University of Toronto in Optometry, he completed post graduate work at USC and opened an optometric practice in Wynyard SK in 1954. George lived in Wynyard for the next thirty years, where he worked hard to serve his family, his profession and the community. In 1984 he moved to Saskatoon, where he continued to practice optometry until 1996. In his retirement, George liked to travel, exploring North America and the world. George had a tireless, selfless, and restless soul. He was always searching for an outlet for his physical, mental, and emotional energy. In both Wynyard and Saskatoon, he was active in numerous community service organizations: Lions Club, Royal Canadian Legion, United Church of Canada, Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club. He had a special dedication to the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, serving #568 Squadron for over two decades. In his personal life, he was always looking to learn and try new things. He started flying in his forties, tried skiing in his fifties, and went go-kart racing in his sixties and seventies. He also found time for ham radios (VE5DL), motor homes, and cars both old and fast. George had a deep love for those around him, which he expressed in a quiet gentle way. His life, his love, and his soul will be missed. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday November 12 at Knox United Church 838 Spadina Crescent E.
