Robert Gordon Rich F.R.I., A.A.C.I., P.App.
April 5, 1931 to October 31, 2007

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Gordon Rich at the age of 76.
Bob was a well known member of Calgary’s real estate and appraisal communities having worked for forty-two years in real estate and fifteen years as an appraiser. He owned Rich Realty and Appraisals and was a Past President of the Calgary Real Estate Board, Alberta Real Estate Association and a former director of the Canadian Real Estate Association.
He was a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Realtors and received his designation as an appraiser in 1975. He remained a member of the Retired Realtors Association until his death.
Bob enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved taking cruises all over the world, dining out, dancing, telling jokes, and going to movies. He was outgoing, humorous and loved meeting new people wherever he went. He was a proud Calgarian and loved the Calgary Stampede, dressing western and missed very few parades. He was a loyal fan of the Calgary Stampeders and Calgary Flames. Even in the hospital he wore his Calgary Flames shirt, knew all the players’ names and got mad when someone would want to change the channel during games. Bob was an active volunteer for the Calgary Food Bank and Salvation Army. He was a member of Kiwanis and the Calgary Glencoe Club.
He is lovingly remembered by daughter Diane Martin and her husband Ward; his son Brian Rich; grandchildren Sarah and Shane; former wife Charlotte Rich; former sister in law Rosemarie Enslin; former brother in law George Enslin (Joyce); nieces Adrienne Andress (Steve) and Karen Enslin; Aunts Alma Strachan and Ruth Pawloski; cousins Ron Staudinger, Georgi Wuorri, Elaine and Frank Cardinal, and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Jean Rich.
The family is grateful to so many of Bob’s loyal friends who stood by him and his children, son in law and grandchildren as he struggled with alcoholism and prescription drug abuse. The family very much appreciates the care and effort of doctors and especially the nursing staff from a number of hospitals and programs over the years. A special thanks to the staff of Trinity Lodge, McKenzie Towne Retirement Center and Forest Grove Nursing Home. For the past five years, private caregiver and friend Vicky Bednall has been a blessing to everyone in the family.
A Memorial Service will be held at Leyden’s Chapel of Remembrance (17th Avenue & 2nd Street SW, Calgary Alberta) on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bob’s name would be appreciated to support Teen Challenge, Kinsmen Clubs, AADAC, Rockyview SAIL program, Woods Homes Crisis Center, The Calgary Food Bank, or the Mustard Seed.
Arrangements entrusted to LEYDEN’S FUNERAL HOME, RECEPTION AND CREMATION CENTRE.
